I'm glad one joke about buggery managed to raise your ire to such extreme levels. A sensitive subject perhaps. The point about your join date and history is that you are in no place to be pining for the "good old days" when you never contributed to them. How about this Salem kid? Boy oh boy wowee!

Stats that Matter (or a truck load of bulldust?)
P-man replied to Demon Dynasty's topic in Melbourne Demons
Clearance numbers have gone DOWN since Neeld? That is something I wasn't expecting and would surely be going the opposite direction by season's end. The Neeld averages for possessions are amazing. How that was allowed to slip to such putrid levels, one can only wonder. -
I haven't seen you contributing much to any debate, intelligent or otherwise. So who are you to point the finger? You talk about the "good old days" when you've joined July last year and made a whopping 109 posts, and NOT expect to be ridiculed? A bit naive there Sambo. Just sayin. Don't take it personally If you've been reading the forum for years, why did you only decide to join last year when the "good old days" were over? That story doesn't stack up. Demonland isn't perfect, I've pointed out my frustrations with the moderation of it. But I tire of peanuts whose only contribution is to talk about how crap Demonland is. There's a very simple solution that satisfies everyone: don't visit.

Howey training with the backs again? Realistically I think we'll need Dawes, Frawley, Howe and Watts forward in order to kick something close to a winning score this weekend. Not being scored against seems to be more important than scoring at the moment, but let's not forget the overall objective.

Agreed. I think it's natural for fans to take a look at a fresh newbie and make an off the cuff comparison, more out of hope than anything else.

This GOLF fella had his head screwed on right.

Never saw any of those comparisons being made either I have to say. Lucas Cook to Jonno Brown is a comparison you might hear from a ranting individual on a street corner with a bible tucked under his arm, but nowhere else.

As much as I detest that club, I love watching Daniher's kamikaze attack on the ball and willingness to crash packs as a relatlve stick figure. He's already done things on the footy field that I've never seen Watts do.

The Garry Lyon mini-me.

Jewels? Sweet. As long as I can pawn them. I'm a bit skint at the moment rob. The missus keeps going clothes shopping.. Listen to me boring you with my fiscal problems. Sorry. I'll [censored] off to Collingwood now and leave you in peace.

Feel better now princess? Say hi to saty for me.

I'll be pretty disappointed if he is sub again.

Humour on a discussion board is why we are a laughing stock? What on earth are you babbling about?

I Interpreted OD's post as acknowledging the improvement, whilst bemoaning the fact we are coming from so far back. For the record, it wasn't anything close to heaven. We still lost. But I can see signs now. Real signs.
-
From my perspective, the reason it is so disappointing is that I can see the team embracing Roos' principles of hard, defensive footy. I don't see Jack doing it, and it stands out. We're talking about one of the most fundamental aspects of the sport - physical contact. He needs to want it as a professional footballer, not do everything he humanly can to avoid it. After 6 years in the system, it's nowhere near good enough. From my perspective, because it is so fundamental, patience is very thin to the point where it is pretty much gone. I keep expecting him to evolve and it just never happens. I'll now be pleasantly shocked if he makes it.
-
His flaw is that he is timid, lazy, and inconsistent. So yes, he's been a disappointment. Roos is running an excuse for him of not being allowed to settle into a position. Let's hope it has some truth.

Players to target at the end of the year
P-man replied to JackVineyForPresident's topic in Melbourne Demons
Not sure about Levi Greenwood's contract status but he's one I'd be looking at. 35 touches against Port. 13 in one quarter against the Dogs coming on as the sub. He is still seemingly considered as depth to their midfield. He certainly wouldn't be here. 25 yrs old and looks to be moving towards his peak. Cue someone to say he's just re-signed. -
I can say in all sincerity that I enjoyed the Sydney game. Non-Melbourne fans wouldn't understand the excitement of watching your team apply real defensive pressure when you have been starved of it for so long. Whenever a Swans player got the ball he was mobbed. With a couple of noted exceptions, the players worked extremely hard to pressure the opposition all over the ground. It was fantastic. I can see the foundations being laid now. The talk about standards being set is just starting to become visible on the field. All the rest will come with greater confidence and new blood coming in, but it is the foundations of defense that you build successful teams upon, certainly in the modern era. Neeld knew that too but couldn't get them out of first gear. Roos is a different beast altogether.

In a rare demonstration of reason, it would seem Abbott is now willing to concede that his PPL scheme as it is currently proposed is not tenable. Something everyone else has been telling him for months and it seems the penny has finally dropped. What impact this has on the "deficit levy" remains to be seen, but hopefully there won't be the insult of a multi-billion dollar PPL whilst hitting the taxpayers harder.

The continuing saga of Melbourne's injury list - 2014
P-man replied to alpha33's topic in Melbourne Demons
Dr Hogan is a little busy at present. Can you come back later? -
Jolly good show! Sorry, stereotype fix. I cringe whenever I hear Melbourne supporters slam AD. He has been one of the club's best allies in recent years considering the hole we dug OURSELVES into. There are further inroads to make with equalisation which hopefully McLachlan acknowledges, but with AD gone it's time for the club to to wear its big boy pants and put the last decade to rest.

I don't want to do this.. Ah who am I kidding. I totally want to do it. By Round 6: But this is even better I think.. So having him leave would have been a culture killer. Having him stay is a culture killer. Literally [censored] either way. Deadset, my 5 year old nephew is less up and down.

All this time I thought it was a perpetually crap footy side, inept management, poor crowd numbers.. And all along, it was BBO's jokes that made us a laughing stock. How did I not see it before?
-
The thing about dropping him though is that it's been done before. A few times if I'm not mistaken. Neeld did it at least once for a couple of weeks. He performed well and came back, but the issues with him remain. It's in Roo's hands. And Jack's, obviously. Time and faith is running low.
