Melbourne v Essendon @ Etihad Stadium - 20th March, 2015

That's also how I'm starting to see it. You just wonder when this farce is ever going to end. The main positive is that amongst the best players again was the new blood in Lumumba, Garlett and Vanders. Viney will surely never play a worse game. -

Lumumba again one of the best. Fantastic pick up. Still look terrified on the whole to move the ball forward. Please just don't lose this. -
Meh. Next.

The AFL is a step in front of the NRL in relation to most things, not the other way around e.g. state of origin, indigenous all stars, membership drives including marketing strategies, Independant commission etc. If anything, they will realise the folly of their ridiculous system and adopt that of the AFL. I wouldn't count on it though.

Not an easy trip from Canberra old fella. Hopefully KC will be reporting.

Throw Howe into the mix and this for me is the biggest mystery going into the season. Nine doesn't go into six. What does Roos see as the full strength backline?Absolute givens: Dunn, Jetta, T Mac More than likely: Grimes Garland Which leaves four pretty high quality talents in Salem, Frost, Lumumba and Howe remaining. Frost did well when pushed forward but is a natural defender and is showing that he is a strong contender for best 22, there looks to be a reliance on Salem on HB, Lumumba will perhaps rotate through the middle but steadies the ship down back, and who knows where Howe gets squeezed in now. Hopefully a few more clues against the druggies as you say. -
Agree, but dammit if I didn't want to at least get a glimpse of Billy the kid.

Echo above sentiments

Not to be a stickler for detail but he's played 33 games. I can see where RL and others are coming from in their reservations, but I have confidence JV will be a quality contributor to this club over a long period of time. He will demand it of himself to improve.

They have Magner and Clisby playing for them, with Neeld in the box. We better win. -
Way to purposely misconstrue. I haven't noticed many posts saying Vanders is a Round 1 "certainty". He is in the mix from what we've seen. I'd say it's unlikely he'll get named before having a run in the twos, but he's showed a lot of early promise and people are rightly excited about what he could bring. RL PREDICTED Viney to be passed, not that he already had been passed. I don't agree with the sentiment, but at least quote him correctly if you're gonna get all sarcastic "I love Demonland".

I really hope you're correct. I can't understand how a team in our position has the luxury of taking the foot off, pre-season or not, but perhaps this is the Roos philosophy coming to the fore. Again, I just hope you're right, cause the second half was utterly hopeless to the extent that it made me think some of the ball movement in the first was simply attributed to their zone defence and minimal/non-existent pressure. It's becoming apparent how much responsibility is on Hogan's shoulders. Without him we will be looking pretty toothless in terms of tall marking targets. Pedo pulls out a great game every now and then but his worst is awful. Dawes is Dawes. I was hoping to see Gawn become another genuine option but no glimpses as yet. Fitzy coming on would be a huge boost. Fingers crossed he can find some form. That [censored] playing for Geelong would've been very handy.

Spot on. Anyone who thinks there wasn't too much fuss about the significant drop off in the second half, listen to Cross's post match. Tells it like it is. Almost getting run over in the second half by a bunch of kids is not nearly good enough. We haven't got momentum yet. There was an opportunity to gain some and they blew it. We need to absolutely thrash the bejesus out of the VFL Bombers. Stay switched on for four quarters and make a statement.

As a one off, I enjoyed the commentary. It was as amateurish as it gets but so what? It's only the NAB. Some of the ripping they did on one another had me chuckling.

Take a bow MFC; the recruitment of Frost was a master-stroke.

His athleticism is remarkable. The recruitment overall during the off-season is looking first class. -

Agree with all of this except JV. Attacked the contest like a bull at a gate as he always does, but he was pretty poor when he got the ball. Too many mistakes, some of which were costly. Grimes' first half was very pleasing. Wouldn't be a Grimes game without a kick out on the full, but I hope he takes that standard into the season. Lumumba was probably our best today. He was superb. Very happy he's a demon. -
Your complaint wasn't on reasonable grounds. The stream worked fine.

Toump was in the top 5-10 players. Did some very nice things, just needs to be quicker in doing them. -

We led in the last quarter in nine games, for four wins. Roos mentions it every second press conference. We need to get a lot better at finishing games off. Very simple point. -

Yeah nah, you can shut your eyes and pretend it was the foot off the pedal, but that second half was the exactly the same type of panicky performance we saw over the course of last year. They just turn to water when there is a lead to protect. Rushed kicks, dropped marks, terrible decisions, turnovers galore. The only way to cure it is by winning, so at least that was ticked off. Thank god we have Lumumba. One more player who doesn't fill their shorts when it's time to stand up. -
