  1. You flatter yourself. The majority are happy to take Viney at 3 if necessary. And Harrington did NOT say that we wouldn't be taking Viney at 3. Thank god we're not cutting down any trees for this thread, what a waste of space over something that's a foregone conclusion.
  2. At pick 3, you'll get a pick 3 in this year's draft. You won't necessarily get a top 3 player. Here's some recent 3rd places in the Brownlow, they're a pretty good measure of the "top 3 player" that you want and where they come from: 2011: Matthew Boyd. Taken 22 as a Rookie, and Scott Pendlebury. Taken Pick 5 2010: Dane Swan. Taken pick 58 2009: Lenny Hayes. Taken pick 11 2008: Equal between two F/S picks (Richardson and Ablett), Goodes (pick 43) and Franklin (pick 5) 2006 and 2007: Daniel Kerr. Taken pick 18 2005: Nick Del Santo. Taken pick 13 etc. etc. Not a pick 3 amongst them. Not even a pick 1 or 2, and with the exception of Franklin and Pendlebury (2 out of 10), not even a pick in the top 10. But carry on ...
  3. FFS, get over it. He's top 10, that's close enough. The difference between pick 3 and pick 7 in 5 years time will be utterly, utterly irrelevant. Look at the Caddy situation - taken pick 7, two years in the system, and no-one wants to pay even second round for him. Except for the odd exception, the players from any given draft that turn out to be A-graders, club captains, AA etc. etc. do not come from the top 10. Viney. Fine, bring it on, wherever it is. He's our boy.

Worth reposting over on the various "should we take Viney at 3" threads, where people are constantly salivating over any number of "highly-rated-by-consensus juniors", and doing themselves physical harm because we mightn't be able to take them because we're locked into Viney.
  5. Yes. If it was Collingwood or Geelong talking to Green your point, such as it is, might have some validity. Going to be a long off-season on Demonland.
  6. Jake Spencer: Round 21: 15 possessions, 24 hitouts Round 22: 13 possessions (85%), 21 hitouts Pity he doesn't have dreadlocks.
  7. You don't know what goes on Monday to Friday at the club - behind closed doors.
  8. Perhaps not after tonight's performance ...
  9. I would argue that that's not strictly true, given that he missed most of (all?) the last pre-season - which would have been his first full one - with his hip operation/recovery. The fact that he's been moved on says more about his off-field preparation and attitudes than it does about what Misson and co. can or could do with him. In any case, it's going to be interesting seeing what happens with him in the longer term. I wouldn't write him off 5 years down the track with a bit more maturity, some meat on him, and perhaps some decent experienced players around for him to model himself on. But we obviously aren't prepared to wait and to take that chance, which is fair enough.
  10. Agree, but I think we will - though perhaps 2-3 years down the track, or even later. I think he might have a couple of seasons in the SANFL, and then will get picked up by one of the SA clubs.
  11. Excellent summary there of what actually happened at the time. I am at a loss as to why we go round and round this "we didn't even interview Martin" line. It's obvious why, and was the correct decision at the time. I also feel that it would be the correct decision even today. Martin is very good, but whether he can keep it together as a professional footballer over 10+ years remains to be seen. For me, 2-3 years is still much too early to be assessing drafts and slashing wrists. Let's wait at least 5-7 years (e.g. Nathan Jones) to see what level players are really going to be able to reach - and to hold.
  12. Your sex life matches your contributions to this board. Quantity over quality.
  13. And utterly, utterly irrelevant to the situation at hand. Unless Collingwood are going to shift themselves to South Australia over the break?
  14. Yep, that must be it, that's the only reason I can think of as well.
  15. No it's not. Validity is measured by the reliability of the information upon which the opinion is based. You have no information, yet alone reliable information.
  16. Yes, but what does that say? NONE of these teams are in the 8. Drafting is only part of the equation, and probably in reality, a fairly small part of it. We're not where we are now because we took Cook over Darling, and RR"s petty and superficial ranting and raving do nothing to add to any meaningful discourse about the club, where we are, or the way forward.
  17. Thoughts with you both. Some of my most cherished memories of my dad were of us sitting together in the nursing home watching the footy. It was always Carlton, as he was a lifelong Blues man, but under the circumstances, I didn't mind. Footy has a way of bringing people together. Thanks for sharing on Demonland.
  18. What's professional about sacking a coach after one year? You should go back to the very article you linked to, which puts forward the very opposite proposition to what you are, i.e. "Geelong and Collingwood were rewarded for their faith in trying times. Kernahan should have stood by his man." Because in case we forget: "Kevin Sheedy's last 15 years as a senior coach netted one flag. For Malthouse it's been one flag in 17 years." As your man who knows his footy Robert Walls notes: "There's no coaching messiah." Stop looking for one.
  19. ... I just don't have the patience anymore. Dumb (coy) title, dumb thread. And just when I thought it couldn't get any worse around here ...
  20. Of course they lie. It's a self-selecting group of respondees for starters. About the only actual stats here are that only 6% of Demonlanders can muster the interest to even vote in your poll, and within that, around 2% have selected your "we got it wrong". In other words, there's no interest and you're not even winning the "we got it wrong" argument, no matter how much you try and spin it.
