  1. Swap Van Rooyen for a key forward who can hold his marks, and Petty for someone who can defend without giving away stupid frees, and we win that. In spite of everything, we are generating enough I50's ... only to see it come straight out again.

So who would you bring in? FFS.
  3. Plenty of glimmers of hope and positives. Probably not enough, but at least they look like a football team. At times. Get Windsor and Kozzie back up to speed, Lindsay and Lever back in ... building, building.
  4. A foretaste of the main game perhaps ...

"New ideas" are meaningless without real and meaningful list changes. No accident that the first thing Paul Roos did when he arrived was use our draft capital to bring in talented, experienced players who could have an immediate impact. Of course, you might argue that we could have stayed with Craig and done the same thing, and we'll never know what the result might have been in that case. But the reason we'll never know isn't so much that Craig mightn't have done as well as Roos, it's that Craig was tainted by being part of the Neeld team and the optics weren't good. If everything else off-field is in place, changing coaches is about sponsors and memberships.

... 2 tackles. Hardly night and day. We get it, you like Johnson over Fritsch, even when all the facts clearly show Fritsch had a much better game and one with a lot more impact. Classic confirmation bias.

Interesting final score, neither team managing double figures and Magpies winning with only 8 majors. Also Magpie inaccuracy, 8 15. Perhaps it's not just us but something to do with playing fast and furious football?

Fritsch had 15 possessions and 8 score involvements. Johnson had 5 and zero. Not complicated.
  9. Didn’t play as held over emergency I believe.

Different positions, different kinds of players. It would be Laurie for Sparrow, and doubt that’s happening anytime soon.

To the contrary. If you’re doing a list rebuild you want stability all around that.

    Then why watch it?
  13. Not sure ... very hard to build fitness in-season. Form, perhaps.

Sure, but Mitchell did play and coach at WC, not entirely misplaced even if it’s not a good look.
  15. Where by “time” we means seasons. And more than one.

Hah! Well, the thread title has a question mark in it, so I'm just responding to that. In truth, I have no idea if it's time for Goody to go or not. But I do know what the facts tell us about sacking coaches, especially in-season, so I'm just running with that. I've also have to add that I've been fortunate enough to have seen from the outside something of what goes on internally at an elite, international level (sport). And my take away from that has been that things internally are very very different to what they look like externally. So I'm very wary of comments like "Goodwin has lost the players" etc., just as I'm very wary of laying the blame at the foot of any single person, much less the head coach. For example, I've been surprised (understatement) when our midfield has been so disastrous, why there have been few if any comments on Nathan Jones' role and potential shortcomings in what he's doing, given he's the midfield coach (alongside Sam Radford).
  17. One of the current frustrations - we're a season away from starting to really see the fruits of current changes to the list and game style. In the meantime it looks like (and is) a bit of a dog's breakfast, both in who we put on the field and the way we play. Injuries haven't helped either.
  18. Some damning footage on First Crack of Rowell running down into the forward line for an easy mark while Oliver and Petracca walked in behind him doing lots of pointing for someone to pick him up. Too late ... and then after he marked, Fritch's opponent (sorry, can't remember who), ran past for an easy receive and run through to goal. Half a dozen Dees standing round looking at each other. They were the opposite of "on".
  19. Laurie’s an interesting one. Wraps on him as a junior were that he had excellent disposal. Perhaps one of those role-players we need. Fewer disposals against less turnovers?
  20. Shocked I tell you, shocked.

This. We started on the road to a premiership with a new coach. Paul Roos. And for all the talk of games plans and defensive structure and yadda yadda what was the first thing he did? Bring in 3 very good, experienced players. Bernie Vince who was outstanding for a couple of years there, Dom Tyson who was similarly effective, especially for the first couple of years, and Daniel Cross who brought professionalism and leadership on field and off. If you want to address shortcomings and move a team forward you need to bring in ready to go players, as Roos understood. Without doing that, changing coaches is just moving the deck chairs.
  22. And what happened after we dumped Bailey and brought in Todd Viney for the rest of the season? We lost even more matches than we were doing under Bailey, the win loss ratio went backwards. In fact, that’s what has happened Every Single Time we’ve replaced a coach during the season. Even after Neeld. 15% win loss ratio? Neil Craig (an experienced senior AFL coach): hold my beer, I can lose even more matches and get it lower, just watch In fact, that’s what happens pretty much every time a coach is moved on mid year, no matter the club. And not just in the AFL None of this exceptional. Or even surprising. Except to footy fans who continue to delude themselves that there’s an easy fix and a knight in shining armor just waiting for a tap on the shoulder to come in and solve all our problems.

2 shocking years? Last year we were in the 8 up until the last half-dozen games, when the cumulative effect of losing our 2 best players became too much. This year we've played 3 matches, one of which we lost by a kick, even though we were playing kids and first-gamers (due to injuries to first-choice players). Since then we've had 2 bad games, and that's enough to have people like you throwing your toys out of the cot. It's not the players who need to toughen up.

We don't know, it would only be speculation, no matter what it looks like from the outside. Equally, I think that Goodwin doesn't suffer fools, and if anyone's upsetting the apple cart internally hard to see them lasting long. Sam Frost and Jack Watts come to mind. The end of the year could be interesting.

    That would be Brad Green.
