Hang on, we got a second round pick for Howe. That's chump change? If so, I'm sure you'd be over the moon with the Melksham deal, only having to pay "chump change".
-
We haven't lost it, we've taken it this year. You'd have to jump through a lot of hoops to see today's trades as a negative/loss. Still, true to D'Land form, there'll always be at least one.
-
Anyone who gets the first 22 right from this far out deserves free D'Land membership for life. Can't even begin to imagine ...

Turning pick 6 into two picks in the first 7 is close enough to a big fish.

He's just resting.

This is what "we'll be agressive in the trade period" looks like.

I'll answer my own question. Yes there was a poll: Who should we select? Wines (70 votes [29.29%] - View) Toumpas (148 votes [61.92%] - View) Other (0 votes [0.00%]) Don't know? (21 votes [8.79%] - View)

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB – JAKE MELKSHAM

Can't present your case without getting personal? -
Not my recollection. Wasn't there a poll?

Apart from one or two cameos, when did Howe ever make an impact up forward? -
We don't need all of Dunn, two McDonalds and Frost down back. Then throw in Pedersen and perhaps King as well. Options, I would have thought.
-
It isn't a balls up, but in any case, it won't be. Happens to every club, and will happen again to us. Let's not forget Collingwood are trading out two first round picks this year.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB – JAKE MELKSHAM

FGS, get over it. In the larger scheme of things, it just doesn't matter - though Melksham was always worth around what we paid. BTW, Cam McCarthy (GWS) says hi. Typical of so many posters on this board, but across every club at the moment. We were screwed, player X was worth much more than what we got/we were screwed, overpaying for player X. -

Still amazed how many posters care about the difference between pick 25 and 29. -
Chasing and catching: not necessarily the same thing. Though in any case, I thought that the priority was mids, mids and more mids, it was the press who ramped up the "a mate for Hogan" idea.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - BEN KENNEDY

Revisionist. Even for nothing, plenty were. Cross was past it, and Garlett couldn't even get a game at Carlton. -

That's the spirit. And Jack Watts will win the Brownlow. FFS, Toumpas had the same chance as Viney, and after 3 years, couldn't even get a game when we were crying out for players due to our injury list. Even first year rookies who started the season in the VFL development league were being picked in front of him. We've had a really good development setup in place for the last couple of years at least, and the only player it seem not to have benefited is JT. -

No-one's a winner or loser here until we get a year or two down the track. Seriously. There were plenty here howling down the Vince move, or Cross, or Garlett. -
"If you don't change direction, you'll end up where you're headed." (old Chinese proverb. Apparently.)
-
The crux of it ... so far at least.

Mine never quite got over Jurrah leaving. (Me neither for that matter ...)

Pretty much reflects the size of the supporter base I would think.

No point sweating the small stuff. Decide who you want, do the deal, move on. The difference a few places in the draft make (outside of the first 10) is neither here nor there, and what happens on draft night is something of a lottery. No-one could have foreseen that we'd get ANB and then Oscar Mac at the picks we did, or that a lowly pick like Vandenberg would end up being a decent enough player to pick up Brownlow votes. Melksham for 25, Toumpas for Kennedy etc. - these aren't in themselves deals that are going to make or break the club. On the other hand, bringing in three young hard-at-the-ball players, regardless of their deficiencies, does start to shift the culture of the club and set a precedent, especially for players that will be competing for the same or similar roles.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - BEN KENNEDY

When all this is over, if what's being rumoured comes to pass, we will have received Kennedy for a nervous wreck on the field, and Melksham and Bugg for Howe (or any permutation that you want). While keeping all our picks. -
I'm definitely in the "don't know what the fuss is about" camp. When it comes to the trade table, the emotional investment we've all made in Toumpas and Howe has zero currency. The life of the lowly football supporter: you bleed for your club and players, even when in reality, they just aren't as good as what you keep believing they are.
