  1. I agree with E25. Anyone who called for him to be dropped has no idea what they are talking about and have been sucked into antiquated group think over the best way to deal with young players. Edit: It'd seem Schwabby does as well - when asked what was said to Bennell he replied "Absolutely nothing. He knew what he'd done. We didn't have to tell him a thing." (I'm paraphrasing)
  2. Hell, Kernahan was still a pretty good CHF
  3. Recently: Josh Carr, Brent Guerra, Stephen Baker, Campbell Brown, Matthew Lloyd. Chris Judd..?
  4. That's ok, I was just shocked that the theory had been disproved! I've not yet seen it happen.
  5. Dipper is a lovely charming bloke and I happen to know he gets along quite well with a lot of former umpires...
  6. When was that? If so, that is the first time I have ever seen it happen. I know that he was name as an emergency in one of the first games, but they were played on a Saturday when typically there is no extended bench. That is reserved for Sunday and the extremely rare Monday games. ..?
  7. I'd also like to add: 4. If a first-gamer is named on an extended bench, he WILL play. They never get a kid's hopes up like that then lave him out of the side. It just doesn't happen. Ever.
  8. As did I. I was shocked when he managed to keep going.
  9. I didn't even read your post; I'm just enamoured with your avatar...
  10. Strauss now knows what it's like at the next level. I'm not sure he did much wrong, but I don't think he's quite at the level he needs to be to deserve a game just now. Let him dominate at VFL level for a while. Surprised Bartram has kept his spot. He won't for long. I doubt Garland will play, i think he'll need another week.
  11. Considering it is a media award, I know without a shadow of a doubt that Naitanui will win it... but it still hasn't stopped me from putting a fiver on MFC's best chances.
  12. Not at all. I think it is a very useful tool for appraisal of things such as your list. It's called Quality Management. This is the 'business' side of footy.
  13. Did anyone catch CS mentioning players in our list who appear to excel in the areas of Football Skills, Physical Skills and Personal Skills... yet fail in the dept of Game Skills? Any thoughts on who he might be referring to..? (possibly half our list) I'd have thought Bell, Miller and Dunn would be prime examples.
  14. That's exactly it. He's a good player. People expect him to be great. The real problem is the discrepancy with supporters' expectations. He could play a slightly better match than Maric, but afterwards we'd hear from fans how Bruce was rubbish and Maric was a revelation.
  15. Is Eddie experiencing what it's like to be an opposition supporter at a Collingwood match..?
  16. Bennell keeps his spot for Scully then. Allowing for rotations he plays on a wing, HFF and HBF. Sylvia swtiching between midfield and HFF. Rivers in the backline at Strauss' expense. Not all that hard to follow, but I understand why you'd have trouble...
  17. Love that gamesmanship. I hope somebody puts it up on youtube, stat.
  18. I would if I was an AFL player with pots of money. I remember hearing that other players gave to the Debt Demolition although for some it was not as much and others just didn't want it publicized.
  19. I thought even though it's spelt Petterd, it is actually pronounced PettArd... no?
  20. That's hawthorn in a nutshell though, isn't it? Weak sniping thuggish dogs. They thrive behind play when heads are turned.
  21. Strauss and Rivers are different types of players. Strauss will provide good run and delivery up forward, something that Rivers severely lacks. On the flip side Rivers is a much better defender and reader of the play. Are we sure he is now fit again? If we keep playing Jamar as a sole ruckman he will wear it quickly. I'd like to see Martin given more of a chance up forward, switching into the ruck. I'd swap him for Newton. Warnock for Rivers? I think Warnock is one of the first picked and I'd keep him in the side. Bartram loses his spot for Sylvia, for mine, due to ball use. Bennell swtiches into the back half, Sylvia on a HFF. I'd be inclined to give Scully a rest and bring back Rivers. Once Bennell has had a chance to prove himself, I'd bring Scully back in the following week for either him or Strauss.
  22. Hopefully that is what the "Before the Bounce" Package will provide...
