  1. There's also the fact that the club knows it is not good marketing to be telling the supporters/prospective members 'hey that gun player you love is going to miss the year' so when there's some uncertainty about the severity of an injury they always lean heavily to the o0ptimistic side
  2. Add Trengove and it's a shocking return from back to back picks 1 and 2
  3. took them six years to conclude what they concluded about watts from day one
  4. “Jack will be in a boot for the better part of the next two months, so the surgery went well and we expect Jack to have a good pre-season and he’ll be back bigger and better than ever.”
  5. well they are not the same situation anyway, one has 6 years and 79 games, and about a dozen of those games have been genuinely good ones.. doesn't excuse his last 5 being hopeless but my comment was to do with young high-draft picks waltzing into the side on autoselect. I totally agree that JW should be dropped but it is a totally different situation to Toumpas. I don't dislike Toumpas BTW but he has done pretty much zero on an AFL or VFL field at this stage
  6. I agree about Watts, but we are not talking about him, we're talking about Toumpas
  7. I dunno man, we're approaching 8 months since Roos was named coach. That included a draft period which he and his cohorts completely nailed IMO. Watching us on the weekend , and the week before, in a couple of outings that would have been almighty beltings at the hands of Hawthorn or Geelong, and a win/loss of 1-5 against below average opponents.. I'm a little unsatisfied at the progress thus far. I really was expecting better. There are plenty of yardsticks, but gee being in the bottom 2 for goals and inside-50s is pretty bad. In Roosy's defense, losing the services of Clark is a massive setback that he obviously didn't forsee. I genuinely wonder if would have taken the job had he known how much harder than was/is going to make everything. It is fair enough to call me impatient, but 9 months is a fair period of time to be in charge of a project, particularly if you're making $1.5M a year doing it. Individually, I haven't seem anyone flourishing under him really.. Dunn, Pederson, Matt Jones, hmmm yeah maybe.
  8. for not being good enough to be in the 22 in the past if you were a first round draft pick we just named you anyway thank God that is over
  9. bottom line for me is that so far Roosy seems to be doing a good job, albeit very, very gradually. He knows way more about the situation than any of us so I think it is prudent we just back him in and hope for the best. If it was Neeld or Bailey we be within our rights to question it but Roosy is a different ball game. However, end of the year we are on 2 wins and Watts is still doing nothing it will be question time for mine.
  10. I think you make a good point here, my gut feel is that Roos' philosophy is not to swing axes but to just try and 'fix' a player.. can anyone recall his time at Sydney, was he an axeswinger? Although, to be fair, I don't think he had to deal with the type of soft, uncommitted football that has plagued this club for the last decade at least. The same things that are said about Watts were said about Bruce, Green, Yze, Robbo and Johnstone at various stages of their careers.
  11. killed by the umpires again I count 14 players who can hold their heads up, which is many more than we usually have We battled pretty well , but 37 inside 50s and 5 goals will never beat anybody.. pleasingly though it was only 4 goals to 5 after quarter time It is nice to have a midfield that can have 5 blokes combine for nearly 150 touches Frawley was bloody useless tonight I like Dawes a lot, just wish he could get into the game more, same with Tyson Pederson's best game for the club, I think he is really surprising everybody - he did make some nasty errors though Nice to see Salem get 6 kicks with 25% game time, he looks the goods McDonald was great after a rare stumble last week Cuddly Watts has to be dropped, when your own supporters are getting stuck in like that it is a very bad sign Roos: "it’s just a fact that we want players playing well week in, week out and setting standards in the seconds, and trying to knock the door down before they get a game" If that's the culture he is trying to build, it is not fair to keep selecting cuddly after repeat failures to put in
  12. really? you're happy with that as a result? besides, I was merely pointing out that your dressing-up of our opponents so far was farcical, GC and Carlton absolute rubbish on the day, GWS still cellar-dwellars and StK for the bottom 5 or so, despite beating Essendon. To get one win from that lot plus a demolition is NOT what I and many others deem satisfactory
  13. i'd give them another week in the twos , till they are match fit, and take 22 players not including your star which should be adequate for the special ed opponent big game against a tough opponent i'd be thinking we need that star in even if he's underdone
  14. wouldn't the logic be NOT to bring back underdone players against spud sides because you don't really need them?
  15. WHAT!? It tells you were in the bottom 2 which is exactly what I have said all along and is apparently the thing you are arguing against FMD or are you so blindly argumentative you don't even know what youre arguing about maybe you are trying (unsuccessfully) to say that we will still finish near the bottom but have lower losing margins and that will be a good enough improvement for you well, bugger that
  16. stuie, you embarrass yourself with such feeble attempts at argument, who do you think you are kidding? Surely not even yourself when you wrote that Here are the flag odds rankings for those 4 opponents GC - 11th Carl - 13th StK - 14th GWS - 16th So how does that resonate inside your thick skull when you consider the quality of the sides we have played so far? for ONE win? It means that on exposed form we are going to finish in the bottom 2 is what it means If that's good enough for you and some other muppets around here then bless you PS what grade are you in at primary school - 'this side once beat this other side that is kindof OK, therefore logic dictates, us losing to that side by 6 goals , means that we are kindof ok minus 6 goals' pathetic really
  17. we've played 4 sides who are crap in general or crap on the day we played them, we should be up 4-1. The only real side we've played murdered us. So no, not happy.
  18. How can you call something 'progress' and in the same sentence concede that '90% of the team didn't play well' ? Isn't that the epitome of contradiction? What is it a progression from? 95% of the team not playing well? 90% of them not playing well is precisely the problem!
  19. sorry mate it is you that is exhibiting naivety by implying in any way that our performance on Saturday was even close to acceptable or that our opponent on the day was any good whatsoever it's not negativity for the sake of it, it is the facts of the matter a top side on their a-game would have done us by 100 on Saturday, no doubt about it
  20. yes, thank you, i have been looking for a way to describe it, he puts his arms over him in a way that is supposed to convince everyone that he is doing what he is supposed to be doing but in reality he is letting his opponent stroll away with it FMD if I know why a bloke would allow such BS pathetic weakness to become part of who he is, he has 78 games and 23 years under his belt. Send him to the 2's please roosy
  21. very well said everybody at the ground saw it today, he was floating around like a butterfly seemingly doing anything he could to avoid encountering a situation where he might have to get hurt. I was screaming out at him, but so were dozens of others that i happened to be in the vicinity of. There were countless occasions if he'd only pushed hard and been prepared to take a hit he would have helped us out, but he elected not to, he elected to take short steps and bystand everything in his vicinity. I have never seen a player at the MFC make such weak, half-hearted, in fact quarter-hearted attempts to lay tackles. Never. Not once. N.Jones and Viney embody the fighting spirit that we want the whole side to embrace, but watts , and a few others, are the antithesis of this philosophy. Pleeeeease Roosy drop this peaheart as a message to everyone or it continues to be a cancer on this club. You have positioned yourself as a culture-changer, well if there is a better case for a culture cancer than JW then I have yet to see it
  22. Because we played pathetic football matched only by the pathetic performance of our opposition who kicked 8 more scores, all of them behinds
