Farewell Kye Turner
Unlucky, showed a bit of promise in the early VFL rounds then his body broke down. I thought he’d get another year given how hard it is to find athletic tall defenders but they might have other options in the draft pool.

Dees win $1million McClelland Trophy
Got take care of business against Freo first but geeze that final round will be a big game for a lot of reasons. Would be nice to see the blokes get behind the girls, but one sign of the poor culture at the club has been how little our men seem to care about the girls.

The Pick 3 Thread
I don’t think North trade us 3, not when they have so many picks. It would be WC trading us 3 after swapping 1 with North. I’m also on board with 6, Future 1 and 42 for 3, but not a fan of 6 and 11 and certainly not convinced by the need to trade 3 early picks. We need 2 quality kids coming in if we can get them

Nate Caddy
So what about his game isn’t key forward if height isn’t your issue? He draws the ball and competes strongly in the air to my eyes
-
Nate Caddy
I’d strongly disagree. If Caddy was listed as 195cm would you question him as a key forward? The way he plays is as a key forward, I’m not worried by a couple of centimetres. Similarly I don’t see O’Sullivan or Curtin as great aerial players. O’Sullivan especially has great size but I see both of them as much stronger zoning players than they are as aerial contesters.

The 2023 Draft and Trade Targets Thread
Is a kid originally from Launceston with all his school mates and Sandy Dragons mates in Melbourne really going to be significantly more likely to move to Hobart than any other player? Id say the odds are in favour of him staying. Same goes for Curtin. I’d only overlook guys who don’t want to move to begin with. Sanders isn’t even moving!

The 2023 Draft and Trade Targets Thread
Forward: Petty, JvR, ?J. smith, ?Jefferson Backs: May, Lever, D Turner, Adams, ?K Turner I think we can replace veterans with cheap depth pieces. But we have a decision to make in the draft whether we target talls with the doubt hanging over Petty or if we think we can land a trade target if/when he goes as a like for like. I think these picks are too important, especially pick 6 to bring needs in to the equation. We need quality, we can address the needs as they come

AFLW: Rd 08 vs North Melbourne
Westy still off her game but our mids stepped up and matched it with a good midfield. Gillard was back in peak form, Goldy had more positive moments and Wilson was a find. I reckon that’s the best our forwards have ever sustained pressure. Certainly this year. Wave after wave of tackles and smothers. Loved Zanker’s game in the second half coming up the ground as an outlet.

AFLW: Rd 08 vs North Melbourne
That was a get out of jail job that last 5 minutes, awful decision making with turnovers in to the corridor when the plan surely had to be just use the shorts and boundary. Wasnt always pretty but we’ll done to Charlotte Wilson with a number of huge contests

The 2023 Draft and Trade Targets Thread
The additions of McAdam and Billings mean we don’t need any more medium forwards. Im pretty sure he was out of the Hawks side before he got injured. He’s the type of player who has to kick 2 a week because he doesn’t do enough else and 2 a week is hard.

The 2023 Draft and Trade Targets Thread
I don't think we'll be thinking short term, the plan surely is to find the best player long term. The hope will be to find an elite player so we don't have to bottom out over the next few years. That can be a somewhat vanilla option like Sanders, you can be a genuine midfield star without too many tricks. But I suspect the plan will be to go for someone with more upside either by a trade up or going for Caddy.

Given he's now been linked to us by a number of media outlets (potentially all just copying from Twomey's original report mind you) I think it's time for his own thread. Pros: - 25 goals in 9 games at Coates league level, including 4 with bags of 4 or more and 4 games of 19 or more disposals - Has a natural presence to the way he hits contests and uses his body - top 10 in agility - big wingspan and solid frame - competes at ground level - didn't look out of place in the VFL Cons: - Undersized for a tall forward and his midfield time looked like a worthy experiment more than a sure thing - Not a huge impact at the national champs - Field kicking looks a little shaky- The Pick 1 Thread
I’m not so sure about that, 6 and 11 is very close to 2 single figure picks and we have a pathway to offer them 6 and 8. Especially as it sounds more likely than not that Curtin is there at 6 and Geelong’s first preference of Caddy might be gone too. And our future first is looking more valuable by the day with the way things are going! I still think the Eagles take the pick or North find a way to turn 3 and a heap of late firsts in to something the Eagles want, but I’m yet to see anything that completely rules us out.- The 2023 Draft and Trade Targets Thread
We know JT always has his own order so I wouldn’t be surprised if Caddy, Leake or O’Sullivan go at pick 6 over Curtin or Sanders. And especially if he’s looking elsewhere at 11. Collard, Tew Jiath or Charlie Edwards wouldn’t shock me.- Can we still use pick 42?
I’d be shocked if he wasn’t at least mid 80kg last summer, possibly more, he’s not that skinny. His fitness and health will be more important than size. Aside from evaluating the available alternatives I think they’ll be monitoring his fitness, if his groins hold up I’d expect he’d get another go- Welcome to Demonland: Jack Billings
He probably is, but you take your chances when you’re in the window. Would love to take 2nd and 3rd round picks over keeping a few oldies on the list mind you, but upgrading the best 22 and filling in the playing list up to 30 or so useful players has generally been this recruiting teams focus rather than chasing talent.- Welcome to Demonland: Jack Billings
- Trade Rumours 2023
Don’t need a pick for rookie upgrade, they just happen. And pretty sure the draft has no limit either, you can trade out of your 4, 5th rounders and then you get 6, 7, 8 to make up the list spots. Richmond did very well to get Freo’s future 2nd for Soldo too. He’s worth a second, rucks are valuable. But that’s better than Grundy and he isn’t.- Trade Rumours 2023
- Trade Rumours 2023
Not sure they’ve breached any rules. Future 4th rounders can be traded now even if you trade your future first, so they’re fine on that. They can also promote from the rookie list and take picks at the end of the draft so they’ll have their 3 mandatory list changes From 2018-2021 drafts they have: Butters, Rozee, Dyl Williams, Georgiades, Bergman, Lord, Jones, Sinn and JHF. Thats a great haul and worth trading out of late firsts to fix deficiencies. The big question will be whether Esava and BZT will fix their issues or if they should’ve gone for a bigger fish down back.- Welcome to Demonland: Jack Billings
Agree on half forward and wing, disagree on midfield. Assuming his body gets fit and healthy I think he can play the Pendles role who sits in the corridor and directs traffic and folds back to help the backline. He could even rotate with someone like Rivers taking more centre bounces then switching with Salo. If our aim is to move the ball with switches and corridor play then we could do with Salem as a fold back midfielder and ask our wings to push in and forward more. Our mids are contest to contest followers. We need at least one more creative midfielder who provides uncontested possessions.- Welcome to Demonland: Jack Billings
All 10 had talent, I think it shows the impact of injuries and how you have to be really careful with the development of highly rated youngsters. 4 players completely ruined by health and fitness. Scharenberg and Freeman never got started due to injuries. Boyd ruined by injuries and the pressure of being pick 1 and having a fat contract. KK concussions. And Billings especially, Salem and Kelly have all struggled at various times with health. Salo had a slowish start and an awful last two years. Kelly had some wasted years before this year. Add in Luke McDonald being thoroughly Northed and there’s very few who have had a clean run of it. - Nate Caddy
