This was before the Essendon deal. We now need to rely on GWS sending us some junk picks or some other method. Our F2, Essendon’s F3 for GWS’ F2 and F3, Derksen and picks in the 50’s??? i think that rule got quietly scrapped during covid.
-
Yeah we didn’t have to use many of them in 2021 but that was more of a fluke that realistically repeatable. Guys like Bedford and JJ were busting to get in to the 22, even Melk as a veteran wanted in. Depth might be overrated, fringe players are fringe players. But health of the list is important, especially with a lot of 30+ guys who will break down if you ride them in to the ground.

6 confirmed outs (Gus, ANB, Hunter, Schache, BBB, KFW) with 2 more surely a matter of time. 2 confirmed in (Kentfield, Campbell). Plus Sharp on the way. So 3/8 filled. 2 potential Cat B rookies (Mentha, Irish) that might push AMW on to a main list or just consume an extra rookie spot? Could be 4/8 if that goes our way. I’d like to get to 3 national draft picks and then have an open try out for the final list spot all through summer. Bring in some hungry state league players.

It does impact our depth tho, which I personally think leads to bad culture and standards as you keep guys you don’t rate who just collect cheques at Casey and puts pressure on the coaches to play the same side rather than have real competition for spots. When we did the Pickett deal we folded it back from 8 to 12 and grabbed Rivers with the second rounder. Won’t be until the draft but Id be very open to doing the same here given how even the second tier of prospects looks in this draft. There’s a couple of specific guys I think we might target with pick 9 who are more of a needs/unique skill set selection who could be there at 12. There’s your second rounder back. Also - do what you got to do - knee cap someone, bribe someone, call in the Peaky freaking blinders to get this Irish kid. That’s your 3rd rounder.

The pies future 4th is the ultimate slider! I suspect Collingwood just wait until we delist him
-
I guess we had to do 28 and the future first for 9, that’s the minimum price for a quality pick. 46 gets cancelled out by the future 3rd. 65 is junk. Did we have to put both 40 and 54 in, I guess the deal says yes and Essendon needed points picks for Kako to do the deal to begin with. I hope we find a way to get a 3rd rounder, if not for Derk then at least for JT to have a crack at a slider.

I’m still hoping we get GWS’ pair of picks in the 50’s via Stringer from Essendon for a future 4th but that seems less likely now. Plus we might still trade out a certain player…

Going straight out in the Essendon deal. Farewell sweet prince, we hardly knew you

46, 53, 56 (Adelaide, Ess via GWS, Ess via GWS) 49, 54, 65 1355 points. 32 and 34 from Brisbane 1126. Make it happen
-
Rumours are we get the String pick/s when they make that deal. Then on send them to Brisbane. They might get a pair of picks in the 50’s given GWS won’t want them. They’ll make for nice points value on the chase for pick 34 from Brisbane

The problem is you can't hire head coach Bill Belichick without getting GM Bill Belichick who probably was never that good to begin with as a talent evaluator/roster builder and his last 5 years or so in NE seems to be a disaster. The irony being you can't hire QB Aaron Rodgers without getting Offensive play designer/caller and the heavy spread them out and let Aaron pick the match ups offense isn't beating teams. If Bill was willing to just coach the 53 he's given he'd still be a great coach. And if Rodgers could just run the offense he's told to run by a quality modern offensive coordinator then the arm strength and accuracy still look very good to me and he'd be a top 10 or so QB. Bill might actually have the juice to tell Rodgers to shut up and do what a good OC wants. Not sure there's a GM in the league with the stones to manage BB.
-
I suspect he’ll get a go at both of those roles as well as a tagger for Nick Daicos types

Been living under a rock for the last 5 years? Side deals are par for the course now
-
Good athlete and great competitor but his decision making and skills seem iffy. Think he projects better as a mid (as does Riv for that matter).
-
Even if we don’t think Tracc and Clarry are great long term prospects (neither is Kossie or Viney for that matter) I suspect they’ll only go 1 big bodied mid at most because Rivers and Kolt are the best long term mids on the list and we need to compliment that too. But it’s still JT and Melb so I imagine correctly so the default will be to favour bigger, stronger ball winners. But I wouldn’t bet on Smillie if we get Langford. If we get Langford the next pick will be all about pace, skill and a ball movement player (forward, mid or back).
-
Essendon somehow don’t have any picks after 31, I’d hope they’d chuck us a bunch of 50’s and 60’s to send to Brisbane for 32/34. Maybe they chuck us some F3’s and F4’s that we can bring forward and on send
-
I think they love Tauru and everyone knows it. They also know Richmond and Adelaide are highly unlikely to grab him, and the Eagles probably can’t leave Harley Reid one out in the midfield either. I’d do 5 and 9 for 2 and North’s future first (if that can get us back in at pick 12-14).
-
Best available always the way to go but both of those lads might be 3 years away, I suspect one or both picks will be runners ready to play early and help transform the game plan. Langford or FOS would be nice results for pick 5. Hynes, Travaglia, Berry, Lindsay at pick 9. A combination of midfield and flanker run and skills would help us play the way we all want us to play.
-
Assuming the top 8 are gone: Lalor, Langford, FOS, Smith, Draper, Armstrong, Tauru, Smillie. Talls: Trainor, Shanahan, Faull, Whitlock x2, Sims Med/Smalls: Hynes, Berry, Reid, Lindsay, Travaglia, Allen, Hotton, Dattoli Positions us just one pick away from one of the top guys getting though. Could potentially do a live trade back if someone wants one of them bad enough.

Bad things happen when this side abandons the fundamentals to try miracle pieces of play
-
Lily Mithen you are now on the hate list
-
She’s dead scared of winning a hard ball and - whilst it might be fitness related - she’s slow. You take a small forward at the top of the draft it’s not unreasonable to want them to have some wheels
-
Mucking around with it because they’ve lost faith in hitting tall targets inside 50. Come on girls, pick a target out, put some air in the kick, it’s not too hard
-
These holding the ball decisions are yuck.
