Potential Trades [Warning: Reading this thread may self-destruct]
The Chazz replied to Dr evil's topic in Melbourne Demons
Could it be Clark and our 2nd rounder for their 1st and 3rd pick? Edit - for Redleg's sake. It was just easier. -
WJ, a sick little part of me hopes it happens. I want to see PJ fight, I want to see this club fight. Too long we've copped anything that's come our way. We want to be a powerhouse of the AFL, we need to start acting like one. If this club can show some direction, there'll be a lot more than 35,000 follow.

RIP Robbie Flower - Sad Passing of a True Champion
The Chazz replied to KLV's topic in Melbourne Demons
My greatest (personal) memory; My parents drove me down from Ballarat to Robbie's Sportsco store (in Box Hill from memory?) when I was about 6 or 7. It was time that my parents bought me my first MFC jumper, and it had to be purchased from the great man. We waited until Robbie could serve me, I was starstruck. He didn't have any/many MFC jumpers in store, not in my size anyway. To ensure we got the right size, Robbie embarrassingly got me to try on a different jumper to ensure he ordered the right size. That jumper was a Collingwood jumper. As a MFC tragic, Robbie could tell the spot he put me in, so with his calm and reassuring voice said "just close your eyes and block your nose". Loved it. Is it possible for our home games in future that we rename "members wing" to "Flower's Wing"? Surely we can do something, even if it is only for our games, to honour this great man, on the oval of some of his greatest memories? RIP Robbie, you're a bloody legend.- 385 replies

I would too, providing Selwood belted the fcuk out of him. And that says a lot given my opinion of Selwood.

Good, I'm glad they are peeved. I'm in no doubt Hawthorn had Frawley this time last year, and Geelong thought they'd just come in and get him during this season. As I said earlier, eat shlt kitties.
-
One of those buzz things that gets thrown around by the locals during their circle jerk. The game is finished when someone mentions "moneyball" straight after it.
-
Careful Song, the resident doctors will diagnose you with MFCSS.
-
Maybe it was Mrs Frawley...
-
Ties to Geelong, or the Geelong Football Club? I think, opposite to B59, Hawthorn has always been the club, and Geelong joined the party too late. In Geelong's smugness, they probably thought they just had to show up and would nab him. Eat shlt kitties.

Here's what we know; - Frawley wants to go to a team to play finals, first and foremost before financials are considered (see below) What we think we know; - Geelong offered him around $500k a year for around 4 years (has to be close to accurate - that is a well known "cap" that they play decent players, with very few on more than that) - Fremantle offered him a lot more, but he declined - Melbourne would most likely offered him more as well - The AFL have indicated that we would get Band 1 compensation, which, if no contracts had been signed prior, would be on an expected value, as well as the potential contract we offered him (ie if we told the AFL we offered him $650k a year but he's going elsewhere, then it's a pretty easy thing for the AFL to estimate) What does that tell me; - Frawley is clearly weiighing up his options between Geelong and Hawthorn - Money isn't the driving factor (he rejected Freo and our offer which I'm sure would've been more than Geelong's at least) - He has to decide if he sees a better future at Geelong or Hawthorn. I would imagine that most on here would prefer to play the next 4 years with the Brown and Yellow. - My line of thinking (base on the previous point I made) is that Hawthorn's offer wouldn't need to match and/or beat Geelong. They are a more appealing destination, especially if he is aiming for a flag, as opposed to a finals appearance. Therefore, they could get away with offering $400k-$500k a year for 4 years, and it would be still a reasonable offer Conclusion; The AFL has most likely indicated the compensation we should get based on figures we've thrown at Frawley, based on media reports, and the expectation that more sides would chase his services. In theory, they'd be 100% accurate. In reality, if he refused Geelong's contract of $500k pa to head to Hawthorn, there's no rule to say that it has to be for more money. This could have an impact on the level of compensation we receive. However, as I said earlier, I have a feeling that Hawthorn and Frawley agreed to terms late last year, where his value to both teams was a lot higher than this year, and think the contract may in fact be high enough to warrant Band 1. This is what I am hoping for as it will cleary ensure he is worth Band 1 compensation. Final conclusion; I think we will get Band 1 as I believe he agreed last year to sign with Hawthorn, and the dollar value will be enough to get us to Band 1. As I am basing that view on nothing at all, I have to take in to consideration that he has only been negotiating with parties this year, and his value would have taken a signficant hit. There you go B59, have I explained my observations over the past 12 months enough for you? You know no more than I. Accept it then your opinion on this topic will be more of an interest to me.

Enlighten me with your reasons for this...
-
Wow.

At what stage prior to the contract being submitted does the AFL know the financial and duration of the agreement? They clearly have some idea given they can "advise" the departing club the "probable" compensation. The earlier reports of Frawley asking for $700k a year (or whatever it was), of course the AFL will declare that as a Band 1. What happens should the contract come in and it's a hell of a lot less? Do you think they have to stick to their word? For the record, I expect his contract to be enough for us to be entitled to band 1, but I'm not going to get horned up about it until it's officially announced.
-
Thanks, you have confirmed that you are guessing as much as the next person. I agree with your 500k for 5yrs should be band 1. The thing you are forgetting is that it can be changed at the discretion of the AFL, that's my concern. If that's me suffering from MFCSS, I will politely respond to your diagnosis with a subtle GFY.

B59, it's not MFCSS at all. It's a group of supporters, me included, that have no idea what this plick is going to get paid. It's supporters, me included, that have zero confidence in the AFL making a decision that favours a lowly side that will put the powe clubs offside. It's supporters, me included, that have put up with shlt for decades that have mostly gone against us. I'm at the stage where I just always look at the shlt side of the coin, because generally that's what has landed face up. It allows me to appreicate it if something actually goes our way. And I highly doubt you know how much the Hawks are offering, and if it is in fact more than Geelong. I think you are just throwing that out there because your "source" had you convinced that Geelong was his destination, and tried to convince this forum for months that you "know". If it were me, I'd go to Hawthorn for much less than what Geelong were offering.

It's more a question about what the Demons are entitled to. It has nothing to do with Frawley's worth, or what we "deserve". There's a formula in place that determines what we are entitled to, and from there, the AFL have to decide if it's appropriate. My biggest concern, and it has been since early season, is that we may not be entitled to pick 3 due to Frawley's contract terms. The only saving grace I can see is that he may have in fact agreed to terms with Hawthorn last year, when his value would be considerably more than today. I still think he has to exceed $500k a year over 4 years for us to be entitled to Band 1 compensation. I just don't know if that's what he will get. I can assure you, if I had made up my mind last year that I was going to leave an employer to head to the reigning (back to back) premiers, who will absolutely challenge for a flag in 2015, I'd definitely be satisfied to "jump ship" for less money than what others could offer. Given that his current contract was heavily front-loaded, he's probably only on $200-$300k this season anyway, so it could be seen as a reasonable payrise.

Mitch would just need to change his surname to Chunt to beat all those.

So, with the looming acquisition of Lumumba, where does this leave Jeremy?
-
The supposed interest in Merrett/Frost is a clear Master/Apprentice plan. Frost weighs the same and is two centimetres shorter than Sauce. I'd imagine Roos will make Frost live with Sauce for the next two years and learn everything there is to know, then by that time, Sauce retires and we have a ready-made replacement that has had two years development the "Demon" way. Astute recruiting.
-
That will get BBO's seal of approval.
-
I hope for your sake that we do get pick 3 for Frawley and not a Band 2 pick... (I have never been as confident about this as the majority)
-
I'm not sure what to buy, Clint. One thing for sure though, Clark now becomes a player that used to play for the MFC, and will be at a rival team next year. My care for him is zero.

Obviously wasn't Frawley's Mrs...

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - HERITIER LUMUMBA
The Chazz replied to Moonshadow's topic in Melbourne Demons
I'd be terribly surprised if Lumumba didn't achieve that 100 game milestone before the potential pick 21 did. Also in that timeframe he would be contributing to setting minimum standards for the team, so that maybe next year's pick 21 can follow and understand what is required to ensure they make the 100 game mark. -
Tony, you have just confirmed everything I questioned in my post. Given your description of Toumpas, he would have to be rated a 2nd round pick at best, so do you really think Pick 3 and a 2nd round pick would get Dangerfield? And again, you aren't willing to give a Pick 4 from 2 years ago, one year of which was significantly impacted by injury, and a full year of being taught by numb nuts Neeld, the chance to develop under a proven and highly respected midfield development coach (Stone), and a premiership coach. Then you add some cream to your argument by saying that pick 2/3 will be better options because they are Victorians. Thanks.
