WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - BEN BROWN
The Chazz replied to Dee tention's topic in Melbourne Demons
A very good deal. Got overs for Preuss and have paid under for Brown. -
It should be a case of Melksham vs Jones vs AvB for that one spot on the HFF, so with that, I'd have Melksham first picked as he offers more. If Harmes is moved up the ground in 2021, then I can possibly see the four of them fighting for that same spot, and would have Harmes well ahead in terms of reliability. However, if Melksham needs to swallow his pride a bit and play specific roles (as mentioned in my initial post), then he's a very solid contributor in our forward line. I'm also way guilty of saying this, back next year's line up will be quite interesting.
-
Melksham is an interesting one for mine. Without doubt his 2020 season was terribly poor. But I look back at 2018, and I think it was the 2nd last game vs Eagles, where he played a shutdown role on McGovern, and due to the job he did, took us a long way to winning that game. He then backed it up a couple of weeks later playing a similar role on Stewart in the first final, and made won the battle again. Even earlier in his career with us he was dropped, and was made to play somewhat of a midfield tagging role at Casey, which he did well and played himself back in to form. In 2020, it looked like he was just given freedom to do what he wanted, and quite frankly, I don't think he's smart enough to do that. My suggestion for 2021 and Jake would be to give him a job each week, keep it basic, and we will see him make a far greater contribution. That said, he might find that he's competing with Harmes for that role next year.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - BEN BROWN
The Chazz replied to Dee tention's topic in Melbourne Demons
BBP, I don't think any of the clubs that would have a pick before us in the PSD would actually want him. The only exception would possibly be Essendon or Hawthorn, and if Brown had half a brain in his head, he would go "Luke Ball" on both of them and not even speak to them. That said, Melbourne won't much around too much, it's not what we do. WE have a bloke that wants to join us, we want him to join us, he'll make an immediate impact, Mahoney will get it done, and it won't cause too much damage to other ideas that the club has (most likely with regards to moving up the draft order). -

This is why there's disagreement. I don't think Preuss belongs in this category, you obviously do. For me, he's not a 22 game a year + finals ruckman. He's a very handy 8-12 game a year ruckman. GWS has Pick 31, 44 and 52. I would value Preuss at the Pick 40-50 range, so I'd be expecting their Pick 44. If we can get 31, I'd be absolute surprised, but will happily take it from GWS.
-
I think that's way overs for Preuss, so with that in mind, if that's offered to us, we just politely, and as quickly as possible, sign the paperwork, then walk promptly out of the room before we start laughing.
-
I'd take either 66 (if Adelaide want him), or 75 (if Collingwood want him). Can't see this happening at all. Is a lot in our favour.
-
You watch Geelong announce that a settlement has been made and Steven will depart the club. It'll be at a fraction of the original contract so that it doesn't hurt their salary cap for 2021. Then all of a sudden we will see a couple of brand new Fords in Jack's driveway, and he'll be a part owner in a handful of pubs and sub-developments in the Bellarine region.

This sort of posting comes with great responsibility, Red. Are you up for it?

Your bottom paragraph shows that you are letting sentiment cloud your judgement. Lewis played his 300th in 2018 - the year that we made the preliminary final. In his last season, 2019, he played 12 games for a team that finished 2nd last, and also spent a considerable amount of time in the reserves. When our season was well and truly cooked, he played the last 8 games of the season. He didn't play his first game of 2019 until Round 5 (arguably you could see our season was over as early as that). Jones has 6 games to get to the 300 mark. I feel that 2019 was his opportunity to get to 300 - he missed 9 games of the season, partially due to form, and also his body breaking down. I would bet my balls on him retiring at the end of 2020 if he could've squeezed that extra 6 games this season. For mine, he plays at Casey until he plays a solid block of games in top form, and can prove that his body can hold up. If he gets in there because of that, then I'll be stoked to see him get to 300. But if he gets to 300 in the type of form he has shown for most of the past 2 seasons, then it will mean we have another year of missed finals. I'll see you at the bank... ?

What do we do in 2022 if Jones plays 5 games in 2021?
-
I'm pretty sure the rule is that as the player is still contracted, his current club has to either honour that contract, find a suitable party that would be willing to take on the remainder of that contract, and if not, they will have to make up the short fall. So basically, Collingwood have screwed themsevles with this one, and it's bloody magnificent. And Adam will receive the money he was promised. That said, we're in the same boat with Tom Mc by all reports, although we're not taking pot shots at him before any potential trade has been done.
-
He's just feeding his little minions some scraps with this stuff. He will break the big news soon.
-
Nothing in here that @Ethan Tremblayhasn't already told us or indicated was happening...
-
So Buckenara is suggesting we trade one of our Top 2 midfielders (at the ripe old age of 23) if it meant getting something too good to refuse? And what would that be? A couple of first round draft picks? So that we can develop them to potentially become one of our Top 2 midfielders? I honestly don't know what sort of offer would have to be made for me to consider letting him go. And I mean something that would be realistic. These sort of trade suggestions make absolutely no sense to me.
-
Again, it never ceases to amaze at how you get your mail before the rest of us. And to top it off, you haven't hedged your bets with things like "he's a chance to leave", "my mail is he's probably gone", "he's a chance to stay".
-
Would it be fair to say, ET, that the joke is on those that take your trade whispers too seriously?! ?
-
Fortunately his contract was only renewed for 1 year I believe. Most on here will know my view on this bloke, but I just seriously don't see what value he adds to the team (please don't give me the athleticism/leap stuff). If we can learning anything from teams like Richmond, it's that footy smarts will always conquer in big games. Joel just doesn't have them at all (not at the level required of AFL standard players).

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - BEN BROWN
The Chazz replied to Dee tention's topic in Melbourne Demons
Form is what will determine Sammy's position in the side, not the acquisition of Brown. If he is in good enough form, he will play seniors. If he's not playing seniors, then we will need Brown to help us kick a winning score, because LJ, going in to his second year, won't be able to do it. If Goodwin can't make a Brown/Weid/LJ combination work, then he might as well give up coaching. -

North don't want him. When you air that, your bargaining power is significantly reduced. -
Trade and Free Agency Deals That Need To Be Done.

Preuss to GWS for their 3rd round (Pick 39), on-traded to North for Brown. This is a good deal for both clubs, possibly slightly in our favour). If that doesn't get the deal done (with North), then our 2nd round (Pick 23) and 3rd round (Pick 39) for Brown and their 2nd round (Pick 25).
