Thompson built the team that won premierships. Neeld has inherited a team from Bailey, who thought was creating a premierhsip team. In my brutally honest opinion, Neeld has landed exactly where Brett Ratten landed, and I expect the same, if not better, level of improvement within Melbourne as they did/do at Carlton. For the fun of it - do you agree or disagree with the last sentence above?
-
Here is the easy way of answering this topic - how many changes do you expect after a Round 1 flogging? If Neeld is going to make a statement, it will be 3 - anything more is kneejerk, and not the best for the "team". They should be... 1. Green 2. Moloney 3. Rivers In... 1. Petterd (if fit, but he has to perform, simple as that) or Morton 2. Couch (based on VFL form and NAB Cup) 3. Sellar (we picked him up for a reason, show us why)
-
Round 1 update - how has Mr Neeld gone so far? Give you a tip punters, if he doesn't drop Green and Moloney, but decides to drop Bate and Blease instead, he's just another puppet on a string.
-
My point is about Neeld's credit rating. It's far from AAA+.

This highlights bad coaching on many levels (if you're accurate in your assumptions). 1. He should, regardless of what happened today, go in to next week expecting to win. Anything less is a cop out, and if I hear any excuse at the after match preser, I'll spew. 2. Regardless of his belief about winning games from stoppages, he has a list, and should coach to its strengths. List wise, we are not the greatest looking stoppage team, so why think otherwise? Innovative coaches create with what they have got, not sit back and wish for something they haven't. Mark Thompson believed in what he had, it was different to the normal, he nearly got sacked becasue of it, but then won 2 flags (which is bascially 3). Said it before, and I'll say it again, there are No More Excuses. Even today, the fcuking commentators used Jimmy's passing as an excuse for a lack-lusture performance. Well, at quarter time I don't think it was playing on their minds. But people still use "something" as an excuse, be it new game plan, coach, whatever. People, please hit 2012 with the No More Excuses attitude. They even said such in the TV after the game.

Green - dropped. Sorry Brad, not acceptable today. Davey - plays nest week. Forward pressure was good, but need to involve himself more (possession wise). Moloney - have been saying since the Gold Coast/NAB Cup game that he has looked slow. Was prepared to forgive due to the monsoon, but ticked the same box agaisnt Collingowwd and Hawthorn, as well as the real deal today. Kills me to say it but you are not in our best 21 at the moment, and need to go to Casey. Slow, slow, SLOW.

Does the Bank Of Neeld have credits??

I said this tonight (or something similar)... I enjoy watching the Gold Coast Suns. While I never will have a 2nd team, the Suns are fantastic. The fact that there is every possible chacne that they will ose the game they are playing, they never EVER give less than 100%. Their senior players, Ablett, Brown, Rischtelli, Harbrow, they put in, and because of this, their kids put in 100% too. Even if their senior players are tagged out of the game, the kids know that there is only one level to play at. They know that if they play at that level, they can walk off with their heads held high, regardless of the result". There is nothing "Melbourne" about the above.

It is as simple as this - Jones, Martin, Watts and Magner. I don't know why there needs to be any more discussion on this thread.
-
Has the stamina for it? Watch the replay of Trengove's reaction when Clark kicked his second goal. We were defated, and the (co)captain showed it. I want a Captain who puts in 100% until the final siren, regardless of the score. He was a teammate, not a leader. He will be one one day, but isn't yet. Grimes is the only option. He didn't have a great day today, but I'm not sure if the coach made the right moves... As oppose to what Stef Martin did today?
-
Oh goodie, the new coach was "seriously pi$$ed". Well guess what - SO THE FCUK AM I. I could give a presser as good as what I heard today. Welcome to the MFC Mark Neeld. If you are as good as you think you will be, you will get this team to defeat the Eagles next week. You should not have an attitude any different. 99.9% of us supporters think we will lose, if you think the same you are the wrong mane for the job. Sadly, I think you are already expecting us to lose. No more excuses. Who gives a toss about "new game plans", etc. We're playing season 2012, I'm here for the now.

Needs to concentrate on personal development before leading a team. As previously posted, Neeld's first mistake. But, the decision is made so I deal with it.

Damn, wasn't going to post (numerous drinks today/tonight), but there needs to be some reality posted... The main thing to remember is that we can't change the starting 21. 1. Don't drop Bate. It's a simple call to make, one we have been used to in the past. You can't rop a sub after 1 quarter, especially when he hit double figure possessions. 2. Some are calling for Blease to be dropped. Seriously, would you be saying that if he wasn't subbed out? I honestly thought he played well...enough. 3. Moloney has been slow all year. I don'r give a rats what he bleeds, he is SLOW, and has been for 4 games that I have seen in 2012. Sorry Beamer, I like you, but FFS, WTF has happened over the preseason? Looks and plays like a 40 year old. 4. Davey I thought provided some great pressure, especially in the first half. I was very critical of Flash today, with his "tough" bumps on blokes after they had kicked the ball, but his tackling reminded me of the Flash of old. He gets another week. 5. Green, well, oh dear. I felt bad that supporters booed him, but then I can understand it. He wasn't good at all, and I'd be horribly surprised if he played more games in in red and blue than he does at Casey. 6. Tynan should not be dropped. He gave 95%, which is 45% more than a majority of his teammates. 7. Trengove shouldn't be captain. 8. Joel Mac and Barty give 100%. They make mistakes. but if they had decent players around them to make up for it, they would look better than what they currently do. 9. Rivers is a liabilty 10. Watts will be great 11. Howe needs to think about posession more than mark. Far too similar to Robbo - it's scary. 12. Jamar got flogged today. Lucky Gawn is out, otherwise I'd have the Russian in the "dangerous" list. Seriously, getting flogged by Hudson??? 13. Jones is fantastic - should bloody near be captain (if it wasn't for his surfing antics!!!!). 14. Stef Martin has become a big player in our team. 15. Mitch Clark is a dangerous pick up. Are we paying overs for a bloke that does a job that Stef Martin seems to do naturally??? Who have I missed? Anyway... Out - Green, Moloney Rivers In - Morton, Sellar, Couch For the "ins" - Morton gets 6 weeks in the seniors, shape up or fcuk off. Sellar is a former 1st round pick, he needs to consolidate a spot this season. Couch is a rookie - can't be any slower than Moloney. Davey is in the firing line if he shows no improvement...

Fair point Nasher, but I just don't remember those blokes being called "Daniher Players". Joel Selwood isn't called a "Thompson Player" or a "Scott Player". Anyway, I'm arguing over something trivial. People can call Viney whatever they like, but from all reports, I'm glad he's going to be "our player". -

A number of people think the Neeld is fantastic, and so far he has made changes to the culture at Melbourne, which a lot of people are very excited with. I'm not getting too worked up until I've seen him coach the real thing. But while he has made some radical changes offield, he has also had the support of the CLub, and they have been willing to spend the money on what it is that he wants. It could be argued that Bailey and even Daniher didn't have the same level of offield support, and investment in to the FD that Neeld has had. Hopefully he repays the Club by producing a premiership. Time will tell. But, like a number of areas of the Club, he has no excuses. What I'm getting at about Viney's style is that yeah, it impresses "a head coach"? My point is that it impresses "all head coaches", so that say that he will be a "Neeld Player" is odd. If Neeld turns out a failure, I don't want any of pur players being "Neeld Players". -
Its happening already Jack Jack... http://www.bgr.com/2012/03/28/anonymous-hackers-plan-to-shut-down-the-internet-this-saturday/

Because I don't see Neeld as the Messiah that some do on here. I expect all our inside mids to be hard players, regardless of who is coaching. -

Enough of this talk already. He doesn't sound like a Neeld player to me at all, he sounds like a genuine AFL footballer. Having expectations of going in and getting the hard ball isn't something new to the game that Neeld has introduced, it's been in the game since day dot, it's just in recent times (since the Northey days), we haven't had anyone demanding it. -

Fair go - he was out for 2-3 weeks or something when he stuffed his knee at home. While I'm as disappointed as anyone with Cale's 2011 form, I'm happy to see him at Casey for the next couple of weeks to get his fitness back, and most importantly, get his match fitness up. If his form is on par with 2011, then I'll have concerns for Cale's future on our list. But let's give him a chance to redeem himself, hell, we're asking it of 90% of our list. The news coming out of Brisbane is that big sauce Merrett will be playing forward. What odds for Clark being highest goal scorer for the round? BTW - has anyone heard/seen Ben Hur today? I have serious concerns for his wellbeing, especially after the teams were announced and Watts has been named on the wing. -

Keep the Watts posts to his thread in The Locker Room please guys. -
A while back I posted about Neeld how he just didn't feel like our coach in my opinion (wasn't in this thread, but can't be bothered finding it!). I felt that he hadn't quite become the coach of Melbourne, and that I didn't have full faith in him while I felt this way. I was shot down by some, but it was frustrating becuase I couldn't work out why I felt this way. I've finally worked it out!!! Now, rightly so, he doesn't take any responsibility for anything in the past - can fully understand that. But, where I think he needs to improve is in the way that he addresses some issues. For example, the Watts issue. Neeld made the comment "My plan is to play Jack Watts forward. When he was drafted he was certainly drafted as a key position prospect". The thing that I don't like about these type of comments is in the words he uses. If Neeld came out and said "We drafted Jack as a key position prospect, so our plan is to play him in that role", it would sound so much better. There's a lot of "I" when Neeld talks, there's not much "we" or "us". Don't worry about "when Jack was drafted", you're a part of the Melbourne Football Club now, so it should be "when WE drafted Jack". Anyway, I'm glad I worked it out. 99% of the people on here won't care - I'm happy with that, but be supprotive knowing I will sleep better tonight!

Providing it's under 86% humidity, the 29 degrees shouldn't favour them.
