  1. Should have zero to do with it. And I think you are loosely throwing around the term "star". He was a very good player, but not what I'd consider a star.
  2. Interesting questions, and thanks for replying. With regards to Question 1 - perhaps why the physical preparation looked greater was the the players cam back underdone, thus meaning they weren't physically prepared beforehand? Your second question is an interesting point, but I'd like to see it asked regarding the senior players. Did they just think it would happen, thus turning up underdone, then setting the standard for the younger players. From where I stood, I think a majority of our senior players were very poor all year. Your third question is bang on.
  3. In answer to your question - 40 years. I've only seen one poor year under Goodwin's regime though. I'm more than happy to give him 2020 to show/prove it was/is something that won't happen again. He will prove in 2020 if he's the man.
  4. If Yze is the best in the business, then I'm all for getting him. Who are the equivalents at other clubs? Can't help but think that a number of people are wanting this to happen, mainly because he's a former MFC player.
  5. A clean swap with Freo seems likely in my opinion.
  6. I'm annoyed that this has come out in the 24 hours leading up to their game tonight. Would much prefer it to have happened tomorrow morning after the put Geelong out in straight sets. Then we could've had Essendon AND Geelong fans going in to meltdown. And for the posters questioning how this could happen - it's not the urine collecting officer's role to tell them not to tamper. They just observe then report back to ASADA that the sample was tampered with. Seems pretty straightforward to me, and makes that part of the process a lot more transparent.
  7. You think the supporters "hoping" Goodwin goes after one poor year are mentally tough? Please. If he's the wrong man for the job, that will be on display in 2020. At this stage, I look at 2018 and 2019 and have NFI if he's the right bloke. I know one thing though, I'm not going to waste my headspace on all of these "ideal" head coach changes.
  8. There is absolutely no way that Goodwin will leave Melbourne to take over at Adelaide for 2020. 100% not going to happen. I seriously question the mental capacity of posters that think this might happen.
  9. What are your questions, Saty? Just curious to know where you are at with the state of the club/2019 season.
  10. I would hope they don't. While I appreciate any member can go along, and am sure we have journos that are paid up members, what benefit is there for this forum to be splashed all over our club website for all of the footy public to see? I'd much rather they ban any media "personalities" from attending, leaving the forum to true supporters. If any of them want to run off to one of the ambulance chasers, then that says more about them than it does our club. Am I being naive given the ease of which technology can allow things to be broadcast? Most likely. But I'd be keeping this as closed off as possible.
  11. The greatest need we have at the moment is a better quality depth. Tomlinson will ensure players like the Wagner's are not only pushed out of starting 22s, but also further down the depth chain. We have smarter people than us in charge of player contracts/salary cap. This bloke won't cost us a pick or player to get him in, and will have his contract structured so that it will ensure we are still in a position in the future to land someone worth more $ if they happen to want to come to us (god help them).
  12. I understand that bolded sentiment, Moonie, but are we actually improving our list by getting rid of Brayshaw? It would take a very, very good player for us to receive for it to be worth us offloading Gus. Yep, Gus' year wasn't as good as the year before, but by heck, he's still a quality player. I don't think it's as difficult for him to get back to his best compared to the improvement a number of others on our list have to make to get to Gus' 2019 form.
  13. I wouldn't have expected Pert to make wholesale changes from the minute he took over. It appeared things were tracking ok, PJ ran a reasonably good ship. Within approx 9 months of Pert starting, he could see things weren't as good as we thought, so started instructing changes to the FD be made. The bye round was the first realistic opportunity for some changes to be made, and made they were, and even then the club had its critics about the timing of it. Pert has basically conducted an external review over the past 12 months, and things have already changed, and I'm in no doubt will continue to change over this preseason. Why you/anyone feels the need to get another external figure to come in at this point in time, is a total waste of time and money. Give Pert 18-24 months, and if things haven't improved, then absolutely get someone in. Until then, let the bloke do the job that he's getting paid to do.
  14. He'd kick 19 in our intraclub match.
  15. Positive/s; - I resisted the temptation to cough up for the Grand Final Guarantee - Spring is nearly here and I can spend my September weekends focusing on the Spring Racing Carnival, knowing I've got a few extra notes in my pocket due to my first point - Part of me knew that the results of this season would happen, so I managed to not let the club consume me like it normally does. I've enjoyed my weekends more, mainly because I haven't GAF about footy, and that's been since Round 1. How anyone can find anything positive astounds me. Yes, Max had a great year, but we already knew he was a star. Many will talk about Hore and Fritsch - great, a couple of older, ex-VFL players have come in and had an impact (says more about the rest of the team). If our list management don't get this preseason right, we're going to be a poor side for a number of more years - we just simply don't have many quality players that will take us to a premiership. I have a young bloke who loves the Dees (actually, just Maxy), but is already talking about at what stage in his life does he get to change teams. He's 5. Why wouldn't I let him walk? Why should he have to put up with the same emotional assault that this club has given me in the 40 years of supporting them? That, MFC, is that reality of the pissweak efforts you so easily accept.
  16. And people still want Jones to play on. Amazing.
  17. Perfect weekend for a poor performance. The media will be too busy focusing on the Geel v Bris and WCE vs Rich games. They will spend most of the first part of next week analysing those top 4 teams, and the rest won't get a run. It's perfect really.
  18. So if they play ok against another team that tis going through the paces, that means they trigger an extension? Please. They aren't picking these players at the view they are playing for their careers. They have been picked because of a combination of us having minimal to pick from, and that we just don't want to win. There's absolutely no way we will win this game tonight.
  19. What would your response have been if we drafted Tim Kelly, then after 2 years organised a trade back West (which is exactly what will happen this year)? Not many more narrow-sighted posters on here. Correction, there isn't any more.
  20. Suits me. I'll leave this topic alone for now and revisit it throughout the offseason to see how much you got right. You've made some interesting claims that we will find out how accurate they are in due course. Cheers to you.
  21. So, according to your OP, you have made claims about the following current Assistants; McCartney - With all the rumours flying about McCartney, there's definitely a feel he may not be around next year. Rawlings - No source, but just a feeling Rawlings could be annoyed Rooke - you could also add Rooke to the list who may not be around next year Plapp - Would think Plapp could be in danger of not being renewed Jennings - Jennings will look to move on end of season Goal kicking coach - New position You are making all these judgements on what exactly? I'm making men about Jones based on the fact that he's as slow as a wet week, and being asked to play in a role where he has continually been isolated by his direct opponent (I think it was @Lucifer's Hero that was told by an opposition team about this exact point). Not even half way through school holidays yet. Sigh.
  22. Which is a classic "Paul Roos Assistant Coaching Model 2.0". Put experienced people with proven coaching/development ability in key roles, blood newbies coming through to work under said key people.
  23. Jury is out. Let's see how Hodge goes when he has some fleet-footed half forward flankers next to him. Hodgey is smart, he zones off and fills holes. I'd go far as to saying that Fagan has incorporated the role that Hodge plays in to his game plan. He's worth his weight in gold on the field and Fagan knows it. I acknowledged the injuries in paragraph that follows. Kind of you not to include that. I will give you Jones' consistency. But are we at a stage where we want a consistent plodder that's toward the end of his career? How about you set your standards a bit higher. This "magical best 22" is quite clear. Match committee meeting in the week leading up to Round 1, 2020. We have a full list to pick from and only 22 spots to fill. Does Jones' name get picked? He doesn't for mine. Calling Jones "depth" is like calling Lewis "depth" this year. Perhaps I have a different definition of depth, but a player with only weeks left in his career is not depth. That's what Lewis in in 2019, and Jones will be in 2020. I have no doubt that Jones will go around again in 2020. Will I be disappointed if he breaks the games record? Yes. It ill mean that he's playing bulk games in the seniors (in 2020) when quite frankly, I think other players should be going past him. It will say more about the state of our depth and development rather than Jones' ability.
  24. You've had a crack at me about the "what ifs and hypotheticals" regarding our 2020 injury situation on the Jones thread, yet you start an entire thread about Assistant Coaches, which is mostly all about "what ifs and hypotheticals". Oh the irony.
