  1. ANZAC Day 1992. 41 points up at 3/4 time, Demons kicked the first goal of the last quarter. Bombers kicked 8 straight to nothing to win by a point. Collingwood in round 2 2010, petterd dropped a chest mark in the goal square with seconds remaining and we lost by 2 points.
  2. Ian Robertson was Carlton through and through, always saw things through his blues glasses
  3. Could've been Jimmy but his illness didn't let that play out
  4. They had the numbers due to proxy votes bought with corporate memberships (Bill Guest?) I doubt it would have stood up to a court challenge
  5. Read his book mate, it's called "Urge to Merge"
  6. 1 last KICK out of bounds 2 fewer rotations 3 less players on the ground
  7. Earlier in the game Dorotich gave Duursma (I think) a proper knee to the head as Duursma was on the ground and Dorotich just ran straight through. I have to agree Strawbs was a massive loss for us the following week, upset our structure and we lost one of our few enforcers which were needed against a Hawks team out to make amends for 87. We still wouldn't have won but we probably wouldn't have lost by a record margin (until 119 in 2007) either. We beat the Blues and the Pies 3 times each in 88 and that'll always put a smile on my face.
  8. Cam Bruce stood up big for us in the last quarter of the QF as well "The rookie! The rookie!" I concur with the comments above, one of my favourite and most enjoyable days at the footy. We've beaten the Blues in some memorable games in my time, 88 PF, 94 QF and 2000 QF not to mention ruining their occasion in the last match at Princes Park I remember all the stunned Blues supporters around us that day as we rolled over them in the last quarter. When the siren went I was walking out up the aisle just yelling out "we're going to the Granny! We're going to the Granny!" which I knew we would after cementing the week off
  9. He was the only one who even tried to fly the flag. Gave Hird a bodyslam from memory though was all a bit late.
  10. Will definitely upload to YouTube one day when I get around to converting it Would love to blame it on channel 7 but the ABC had the rights that year. I have a feeling the copy I have was recorded by someone from country/interstate where they broadcast the entire game as it was only the 2nd half shown in Melbourne
  11. I have a full copy of round 22 1987 - granted it's not broadcast quality but still, it exists ?
  12. Fastest to 50 career goals (9 games) in league history and equal fastest to 100 goals (21 games shared with Coleman).
  13. Tingay was a gun but this one is no contest! Jakovich probably my favourite ever Demon, I was 9 when he debuted and he was just electrifying. Perfect mix of being able to kick goals from anywhere, being an absolute larrikin and giving it to Collingwood supporters.
  14. Moloney was good for a few years but he [censored] me by the end. Grab it in the middle and just smash it on the boot without looking. Gawn has already outdone him and should have a few years left hopefully
  15. Especially with list sizes set to reduce over the next couple of years
  16. Bradley Sparks - wore the number 42 in 87/88 - couldn't recall him, but he appeared in a cameo in his only game in 1988 against the Eagles in Perth kicking a decent goal late in the game that was already over.
  17. There were actually minimal around the ground ball ups due to the style of play and players holding their position. Of course there were heaps of turnovers too with players kicking straight down the line but the game was free flowing back and forth and was a FAR greater spectacle to watch
  18. It's nice to see so many things differently to today. Umpire calling ball-up as soon as the ball is locked in, not waiting 10-15 seconds to see if it breaks free of the scrum. Umpires not afraid to pay free kicks to keep the game moving. Alternatively umpires also not afraid to let it go to keep the game moving. And of course, not being able to hear the umps! I reckon one of the first times I heard the umps micd up was the 1989 Panasonic Cup Final vs Geelong. It offered minimal insight then and not much has changed 30 years on.
  19. Yeah I was thinking Matthews and Bartlett the only two who came to mind. I'm sure there's probably more, but it's a hell of an achievement. Betts is more so considering players don't top the ton anymore.
  20. Yep that's how I see it too. We beat bombers at the G and Windy Hill, Eagles at the G and at Subi, Hawks in back to back weeks to knock them out of the finals. The Pies creamed us earlier in the year but as you say we had the wood on them in Finals. I agree, 1990 the one that got away and was probably the one that was up for grabs competition wide. Yeah the team wasn't star studded but then the Pies won with Starcevich at CHF and no big name Full forward. 1990 is one of the reasons I really hate West Coast, knocked us out in 90, 91, 94 and then in 2018. Can't stand the arrogant [censored]. Hated Hawthorn too for 87 and 88 but I admire what they've achieved despite my hate for them. West coast? Nup
  21. https://www.theage.com.au/sport/afl/victorian-premier-daniel-andrews-feels-afl-still-some-time-off-resuming-20200412-p54j5u.html Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews has quashed any talk of the AFL following the lead of the NRL and restarting its competition any time soon. Andrews announced on Sunday the state of emergency in Victoria will be extended until at least May 11, meaning strict enforcement of social distancing and isolation measures remain in place to slow the spread of coronavirus.
  22. Hasn't WA shut their borders? I think it's pie in the sky stuff, I will be shocked if there is a 2020 season.
  23. Yeah we were 2nd or 3rd after round 16 1988 after smashing the Pies off the G and then lost 5 in a row. Had to beat Carlton in round 22 to sneak into the 5, had we lost the Bombers would've played finals. We lost to some average teams in 88 too, Saints at Moorabbin (wooden spooners), Richmond late in the season, Bulldogs and Swans at the G. I reckon we did the same thing throughout the Northey years too, there was always a run of games mid-late season that cost us a double chance. Actually a similar thing happened in 94 too under Balme, can't remember about 98.
  24. We beat Hawks in round 18 2004 to go top of the ladder. The only time barracking for the Demons I can recall being top of the ladder that late in the season. Only other times I can recall were early in the season in 1990 (round 5) and 1994 (round 6) maybe.
  25. As far as the poll goes Farmer by a mile. The most consistently explosive player I've seen in the red and blue next to Jakovich. His 98 finals series (including round 22 against the Tigers) and 2000 season were something to behold. 76 goals would have to be one of the best returns for a small forward in the modern era, if not ever.
