Atkins is definitely one of their weak links and we played him as such. Basically let him have the ball at the stoppages, because we knew he wasn't dangerous.
-
He's finished IMO.
-
Lol. If he didn't cost much of course I'd take Tippett. He's a solid ruck/forward - something we desperately need. He's not A grade at either one, but he's a way better option than playing a permanent ruck up forward.

My old man is very 50/50 on these things. But yes, those losses irked me too, but I don't think there'll stop us, as they occurred during -Max. If those sort of losses continue to occur when we're +Max, we won't make it. We'll win at least 3 in a row again this year at some stage.
-
I may have.

I've previously said JKH is finished at AFL level. He'll have to do a lot more than play one great game at VFL level. Put that together consistently for starters.
-
We've barely had Gawn or Hogan all season. I don't think it'd be a particularly solid case.
-
My old man keeps banging on about the Hawks and Freo games and how they will probably cost us finals. I still think we'll get there, because I can't see any teams really finding any sort of consistency that puts them ahead of the rest. With Gawn and Hogan back, if we can maintain our best 22 from Round 13 onwards, we'll win 7-8 remaining games.

Luck has run Richmond's way all season. The perfect example was our game against them. Our two injuries before half time. Cotchin starting a fight, getting a free kick as Riewoldt illegally joins in on the fight from the bench. It's rare luck goes your way all year. I still don't rate Richmond. Like Geelong, they rely on too few. Their better players are also those that always fail under pressure (see any finals they've ever played in).

I'm with @ProDee on this one. Get Lever and go for Whitfield as the cheaper option. Naturally, if we could get Kelly and Lever that would be great, but we can't afford to throw out our cap by paying Kelly ridiculous dollars. It also flies in the face of the list management strategy that we seem to have adopted.

Who says they haven't said this to him? Selection and player A or B will be right is often all smoke and mirrors.

I wonder what Matera's contract status is. Turned into a very good player.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - STEVEN MAY
Adam The God replied to DemonLad5's topic in Melbourne Demons
Gee, May is an ordinary player. Struggles to impact contests and for a bloke of his size, he's pretty soft 1v1. Wouldn't pay much for him. -
Trengove has definitely lost pace for whatever reason. Showed some reasonable signs early. Love his commitment to his club and team mates, but he's never dominated. However, he played some standout games in the SANFL that year as an underager and I remember being really excited by that. There's always hindsight, but top picks are never guaranteed successes. I wouldn't say any of Carlton's #1 picks have lived up to expectation. Murphy is a solid B+, cusp A grader, but no superstar and Gibbs is the same (very Jack Watts IMO) and Kreuzer has been an injury-riddled disappointment. Certainly has some talent, but like the other two, would never have been a superstar. Unfortunately, with our drafting system, your expectation is the #1 pick is going to be a superstar, but it rarely comes to fruition.

Welcome to Demonland: Jake Lever
Adam The God replied to stevethemanjordan's topic in Melbourne Demons
Lever injured again. Third time this year. Would have to be a consideration. -
My sister and I paid good money that day to go down to Geelong and watch the team. The scoreboard is still etched in my memory. Watts and Garland practically crying as they came from the ground is the other moment I won't quickly forget. That's why I like Garland to this day, not necessarily for his abilities, but more the fact he was one of the few that seemed to care that day. We've been through all of this ad nauseam, but I hold Schwab, Connelly, Stynes, McLardy and Lyon responsible for what happened that day and the hole we found ourselves in and failed to dig ourselves out of. Jimmy I give pass to as he did the best he could in terribly trying circumstances, but the rest of them have no excuse. A disgraceful period in our club's history, which culminated in our worst period under Neeld.

Most of them will jump if they feel sustained pain. Just have a look at Carlton. Once a power club, now a bit of a joke. Hawthorn supporters over the past 40 years have rarely felt pain and a lot would be fair weathered.

You need more than one big fish. You need a team of contributors and stars amongst them. Geelong are not going to win a flag because they rely too heavily on two players. Bookmark it.

This is just delightful. How did we lose to this rabble? Ah well. They're going nowhere for a little while, which is great.

Welcome to Demonland: Jake Lever
Adam The God replied to stevethemanjordan's topic in Melbourne Demons
Lever's strength for mine is his intercept marking and ability to read the play, which allows him to leave his man (ala Rance) and create a spoil/2v1 scenario in favour of his team. I wonder how he'd go in our high defensive press. Our defenders are often separated quite a bit, so it may take a tweak to our defensive press to best utilise Lever's strengths. -
Haha, nice.
