Ratten has coached against Oliver. They know exactly what he is going to do.
-
lol we get a centre clearance and Saints get an inside 50 out of it.
-
Make no mistake. We are very close to being blown away here.
-
Jones trying hard. So hard he fumbles every time he gets near the ball. Set up that goal though. Backline keeping us in this.
-
Finals calibre team bullying an average team. Common theme since 2017.
-
FYI we've never beaten a Ratten coached team.
-
8-1 centre clearances.
-
lol wow
-
Our backline saves this team. May Hibberd Salem even Lever probably filthy some of the goals and entries teams get against us.
-
Saints regained territory. Looking a lot like the Dogs game now.
-
Viney should be omitted for that hairstyle alone.
-
we are playing a possession game. going back on every mark. and covering ground well. game played on our terms atm.
-
just switched on. wtf is going on with this camera work?

completely forgot it was in Alice lol

Can't see us getting close. Gobsmacked by the ins. They will absolutely run us off the park. Hoping for a wet game, no idea what the weather is like but that's our only hope to slow them down. Otherwise I can see another 5-6 goal loss. Saints will need a bit of pace and spread for 10-15 minutes to build a lead and that's game over.

Life could be worse, Franky. We could be in the midst of a pandemic.

Maybe we should lockdown social media ?

These exist to some degree. See "Dylan Voller" defamation case. But this holds organisations to account for comments as organisations can't sue for defamation. The law is muddy obviously here but there is potential litigation concerns for clubs as well ie. has the club done enough to protect its players on social media, given there is a reasonable expectation that their social profiles are public and therefore are expected to uphold and represent the club's values? If the player is bound by the club's values, it's reasonable to argue the club will protect those most publicly exposed to scrutiny and vitriol. As I mentioned above organisations and clubs can't just expect social media companies to act. There needs to be firmer guidelines and moderation internally. It probably won't happen but Kozzie and Jetta and Betts etc could all argue, "What is the club doing to protect me on social media, given I am expected to represent the club on social media?" Not enough investment in this area. And not exclusive to the AFL and sport industries.

The message needs to be clearer then. I do actually think there needs to be more dialogue between the private sector and social media companies. And I also believe that the most positive and effective change will come that way. Otherwise we are leaving the gate open for government to act and as you said that can lead to dangerous outcomes. Social media both as a concept and as a platform is too big with too much noise to be impacted by bad PR like this. One approach could be a pro sport league coalition in Australia that meets with Facebook for example to discuss the issue of anonymous posting, and the guidelines that dictate moderation. At the moment it's not clear and just assuming they will act simply because of a press release that says "RACISM BAD" won't get the job done. Facebook has bigger fish to fry than a case of racism by some anonymous online troll, which in essence is being treated in isolation each time it happens. The message needs to be louder and stronger than that. Otherwise in a few days time we forget about it before it happens again. This is like the 7th time it's happened this year and there doesn't appear to be much pressure applied.

I agree but I'm actually referring to the club exclusively. No government intervention needed. There is a legal framework there. Additionally there is precedent where organisations can be held liable for comments on their pages. Clubs (and organisations in general) need to work much harder. That they're publicising it every time they see a nasty comment actually says to me that they think it's a once-every-now-and-then issue that can be addressed with a simple press release, when it's actually not that simple.

These are faceless ghosts hiding behind fake profiles. The best approach is to delete and move on. Bringing to attention every online troll is pointless. It may actually make matters worse. It is a futile exercise even reporting on this because you won't have anyone vocally speak from their own profile in favour of the comments. You're just preaching to the converted. It just seems silly to say "HEY EVERYONE THIS FAKE PROFILE SAID SOMETHING RACIST. RACISM IS NOT OK" every time some Russian bot profile posts something nasty. My approach would be: 1. Enhanced investment in online moderation. Immediately ban/report/delete online trolls and their comments. Zero exceptions. Where possible, if account/personal identification is available, refer to appropriate authorities. 2. All personal player social media accounts are private. Their followers are cross-checked and anyone that isn't a close friend/relative/colleague is purged. 3. Separate "work" social profiles are created for the sole purpose of promotion, branding and messaging. Additionally, establish a dialogue with Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Lead from the profile to help develop and improve moderation mechanisms.

It was my birthday. Went with a bunch of mates. Never forget the Saints running rampant in I think the second quarter? Just goal after goal out the back. Was embarrassing.

Damning footage on the AFL website. Granted it's Cornes making the comments but he is spot on. One passage of play where Bulldogs went end to end, and Melbourne’s lack of chase for a team with its season on the line was very concerning for Simon Goodwin. Uncommon issue in both the Roos and Goodwin eras. Astonishing really. He just said, how can a team with its season on the line and 7 points up at half time not be able to chase its opponent. Essentislly hinted at all that we haven't beaten anyone yet and players were saying "How good is this" when they went in at half time in front. Heard it many many times before.

So is Wallis this week's recipient of the Kent Kingsley Award For Spuds That Play Well Against Melbourne?

Josh Bruce's record against us makes me suicidal.
