NON-MFC: Opening Round
Brisbane, Port and Melbourne both under a lot of pressure this season. I honestly reckon at least one of those coaches will be gone within the next 12 months. A lot of people saying Carlton will drop off. They have their defense sorted. Once their elite forwards and connections click they'll be very hard to beat.

Changes that should happen: Fullerton in for Schache Kozzi in for one of Chandler or Spargo, probably the latter Someone else for Bowey Changes Goodwin will make: Tom McDonald for Schache (sub) Ben Brown for JVR (rested) Kozzie for Bower (inj) Spargo to playing roaming defender/plonker Billings omitted

Targeting Max
We had someone to help alleviate the physicality focused on Gawn. His name was Brodie Grundy. Every player gets targeted in some way to nullify their potency. We have built our gameplan around the dominance of our ruck. This has now been figured out by the opposition. The only way to counter it is to ease the pressure to free him up. It worked in 2021 with Brown in the second half of the year, and a fitter McDonald. Schache is a feather, and JVR lacks ruck craft. The media made us believe that *getting* Grundy was the mistake. It's going to quickly become evident that getting *rid* of him was. I sure do hope Fullerton can stay on the park. Otherwise it is going to be a long season.

Goodwin picked Schache over Grundy in a do-or-die semi final, but then never played him, instead stuck with Tom McDonald, who is still on the MCG right now completing a 180 degree turn some 6 months after the game ended. AND THEN he traded Grundy, before picking Schache to play *against* Grundy as the backup to Gawn, the role Grundy was originally recruited to Melbourne for. Only for Grundy to smack them both. You couldn't come up with a more Melbourne storyline if you tried. 2021 is such a pipedream. Only Melbourne could [censored] up having two AA ruckman

POSTGAME: Opening Round vs Sydney
Interesting stat I saw on Twitter. Since we lost to Port by 50+ in 2020 we've only lost one other match by 30 or more points (Freo at the MCG in 2022). We've also only lost 24 games out of the past like 96. It is an outstanding record but it does have me wonder what it's all for. Feeling we are in for a tough, long season. I just can't see us pulling a Geelong or Hawthorn and suddenly coming good. I don't think Goodwin has the coaching prowess and I feel we are a bit too raw still. The confidence is there but I think this mob needs a revolutionary leader. Someone to really inject some fresh ideas. We've got another season of this to look forward to and to be quite frank it's not appealing and not good for the fans. Tonight was ugly and we simply aren't ready. I hope for Goodwin's sake that this doesn't snowball into another 2019 because he won't survive.
