  1. I didn't think anything would ever top how burnt I was after Round 23 2017. But seeing Pies supporters in the city today... I am so filthy. Oh well.
  2. if we trade Tomlinson and keep McDonald as a KPD, I'll become a Collingwood supporter.
  3. Pies and Lions are certainly the most deserving at this point. If GWS wins tonight we absolutely want Brisbane to win because Carlton will beat GWS in a GF.
  4. Good news everybody. We finally activated our sub.
  5. More a case of both aesthetics -- not having players covered in blood while playing -- and also mending the wound to prevent infection/further infliction. I don't think HIV was ever really the driving force behind the blood rule beyond the 90s.
  6. Not surprising. Before the game Goodwin looked mentally exhausted and during the week he slurred his words during the press conference and looked genuinely cooked. I imagine the result just led to him snapping given the way they lost. He's only human. Also, seems Mad Monday wasn't cancelled, just delayed. As players on Instagram yesterday posted about it.
  7. Liked the kid but not up to it.
  8. they're also professional athletes. At this point and at this level, it's half psychological, half strategy. Execution is different to skill. which they all have otherwise they wouldn't be in the AFL.
  9. I don't think field kicking is our problem or even necessarily kicking for goal. How many misses are checkside, from the pocket, or through traffic? Pickett and Oliver both had shots from outside 50 on the boundary. Gawn was on the point post. Petracca should have nailed both of his kicks but they were through traffic and rushed. None of our final shots on Friday were high % shots on goal. And they all mostly missed by centimetres or millimetres. In my view it's about finding space, and taking the opportunity to put teammates into space. I'm confident this is as much a strategic change as it is simply "kicking better". We seem so fixated on numbers around the ball that by the time we win it, which we almost always do, we have no time to find space. There's no balance. Our gameplan quite literally seems to be "go to the well as often as you can" but there's no plan to actually extract the water once we get there
  10. Crom supporters on Twitter are convinced it means more than it does.
  11. Few people quoting this Tweet, suggesting it links into Petty being packaged for McAdam. I can't see it happening unless Petty specifically asks to be traded to the Crows.
  12. Not blooding JVR during the season last year was one of the biggest mistakes Goodwin and co. have made. Even 4-5 games would have been sufficient. VFL performance dictated it. Would have been better for the run. Woewodin got invaluable experience this year (and probably should have played a final). EDIT: Woey should have probably replaced Langdon halfway through the year for a stretch of 6-7 games. Felt like him playing in the same squad as Huntet and Langdon was detrimental to both him and the team.
  13. Except Hawthorn did just that in 2010, 2011 and 2012. They missed the top 4 in 2010 by one game and should have won a bunch of close games. In 2011 had chances in the Prelim against the Pies but choked. Should have comfortably won the 2012 Grand Final but kicked 11.15 including 2.5 in the last quarter to Sydney's 4.2. Geelong spent a decade choking including a stack of Prelims. Took almost a decade after recruiting Dangerfield for them to finally win a flag with him.
  14. People still think footy clubs are amateur. It's a professional work place. Players have KPIs. Teams have KPIs. Coaches have KPIs. Exit interviews are holistic views over the year. Anyone that works corporate would know what an end of year review is. You go in, talk about what you've done well, how you think you went, what you think you can improve on. Then management tells you how you went next to your KPIs and what your goals might be next year. Anyone with a brain going into these interviews knows exactly how they're going to go. They're not defined by one moment/game/week/month. Leaders like Gawn will have different metrics than someone like JVR.
  15. NBL is bigger than its ever been... probably not mid-90s level but both Melb United and Phoenix doing very well. Anyone going to United v Phoenix?
  16. Also, Hogan was "ill disciplined" but we're about to recruit McAdam and recruited Hunger lol I know we got good value for all of them but gee whiz, you can't ignore the common denominator of forwards wanting to leave.
  17. There's a lot of criticism about Goodwin but I don't think anyone here is crazy enough to think he should be sacked. Hinkley definitely shouldn't have lasted as soon as he has.
  18. On current form GWS and Brisbane are far and away the best teams in it.
  19. This would be a good outcome for the AFL.
  20. We've lost Hogan, Jackson and Bedford on Goodwin's watch.
  21. Video from a Carlton support. Epitomises our entire structure and game plan. Players screaming for it in the corridor and our option is to just blaze forward.
  22. Isn't draft order based on finishing position after H&A?
  23. Salem and Langdon aren't suited to our current style. Unless we return to 2021 form where our games are more open and free flowing, they will be liabilities. I honestly feel like we looked like a better team without Salem this year. They're both Ferraris (or try to be) in a garage of Mustangs and Ford Escorts. They just don't apply the pressure suited. They're downhill skiers. I honestly think Langdon lost probably 5-6 key battles the past two weeks that led to goals. He also kicked it out on the full like 5 times last night.
  24. Wouldn't call it a waste. Sparrow, Rivers, McVee, JVR all improved and progressed. Even Pickett did to a degree. I thought he had a solid finals series. He'll be better for it. Smith had a good finals series. Petty had a good season when he played. Lots of upside. The biggest waste comes from the top end of the list who badly let us down time and time again. Leaders went missing or choked multiple times throughout the year when game was on the line. Players that consistently stood up were Rivers, McVee, Petty, who at times almost single handedly kept us in games which is amazing given their experience. It's a waste insofar as we've been in the top 4 for like 69 of the last 70 rounds and couldn't have win a final at the MCG in that time.
