Incorrect. Geelong is likely to win, therefore if Port were to win by 150 and we were to lose by 150, they'd have come in for us. It went right down to the wire.

Simon Goodwin Contract Extension [Aug 2018]
praha replied to Elwood 3184's topic in Melbourne Demons
Is he the right guy though? -
He was also one of the lowest ranked players on the field. His career is running on fumes now unfortunately. This will be his last contract.

I also like JKH and see a lot of Jetta in him. Much like Oscar 24 months ago (and even Petracca by some here), the criticism is rife, but I can sense mature heads who with time, experience and patience will come good. All it takes is a bit of confidence. Jetta was cooked at the end of 2013.
-
A lot may disagree but I really like the patience afforded to Spargo. He is a smart player that works hard and does the non negotiables. Doesn't shy away from the contest and doesn't appear intimidated by pressure and big crowds like Garlett does.

I do find it interesting with the media pumping up Richmond this week with they're inclusions. IMO even without Prestia and Cotchin they would still be healthily in line to win the flag because they get such a consistent team performance.

lol you could have said the same of Ablett Jnr in his first 3-4 years in the league, or even now. Under the radar for most of the game and then kicks into a gear. Agreed he doesn't do it enough but I feel you're just finding reasons to criticise a kid that has only just kicked over 50 games.

He was very good in the last 15 minutes. It's why we drafted him. Those performances win games. He, Oliver, Harmes, Salem and Gawn all went to another level when the Eagles hit the front.

If Freo beat Pies and we beat GWS I will ...
praha replied to Bleeds_Red_&_Blue's topic in Melbourne Demons
TBH, I would much rather avoid Richmond until a GF if we were to make it. Playing them the first week and losing still stands having to play 4 finals. And I really want to see us smash Geelong for once. If of course we beat GWS this week. -
I remember going into the season, we were Victoria's best chance to bring the flag back home. According to The Age. Went into the Saints game full of confidence. We were awful. Lost the first 9, beat Adelaide and the Pies, and then got smacked by bottom placed Richmond, who hadn't won a game. Daniher was done. Genuinely thought we had the right foundations in 2010. In hindsight it is no surprise we crumbled as badly as we did. What terrible recruiting. Undoubtedly we have the best young core that we've had in my time supporting the club (28 years). In the 90s and 2000s we were led by an older brigade. On the weekend, Oliver, Harmes, Petracca, Kent, Salem, Hannan and Melksham got us over the line. Some good leadership by Jones Lewis and Gawn in the final 10 minutes as well. But it was the young core.

Introduced to the classic '87 season by default given I was too young to be involved or remember. My house had a VHS of each final (official VFL 'Name A Game'), as well as a recorded copy of the "replay" of the Bulldogs game on...I think it was ABC? Just the last 10 minutes or so. The full game is on YouTube now but I remember watching the matches growing up in the 90s thinking "WOW The game has changed so much!". Looking back on it now, I can finally appreciate the joy of supporters on the day. In the 90s and 2000s I saw quite a bit of finals action, 90, 91, 94 and 98 were great, fun years. Then you had the 2000s as well. But the last decade has been brutal and I didn't really dawn on me how long we've been a non-factor until I started watching random highlights from 2010 and 2011 earlier this week, and then saw the 2008 comeback against Freo pop up in my "RECOMMEND" section. That match feels like yesterday but was so, sooooo long ago.

Ideally: Sydney to beat Hawthorn. Melbourne to beat GWS. This would set up a Richmond v Sydney, and Melbourne v Geelong in the first week. Provided Richmond get the job done, and we do against Geelong, it would pit us against Sydney at the SCG, an ideal scenario imo. Get the job done there, and this would set us up for a Prelim matchup vs WC in Perth, or the Pies at the MCG. IMO, the best case scenario would be to avoid Richmond at the MCG, and Hawthorn as well. EDIT: obvs we'd have to play Richmond at the MCG at some point, which just prefer it to be in the GF.

I take Lecras to be a Hanzo main tbh.

I think our support and membership numbers are quite strong and there is a positive there considering how poor we have been. Richmond only had 50k members in 2012. The challenge for us is that we have a small overall support base, so we need to increase that commitment ratio. Further, the high percentage of Melbourne supporters being members suggests the base has a high purchase intent, meaning game day and club sponsorship should be strong once we start playing consistently good football and finals. The downside is that from a broadcasting point of view, unless we are performing well, there is little way to justify primetime fixturing. People carry on about Carlton but harsh reality is that they *must* bring in viewers. No one wants to watch Melbourne unless they're performing.

We may not have won the quarter but imo we won the mental battle. Every time they won a centre clearance, they scored a goal, but we kept it even and often scored the other way. That was deflating for them. Even when they hit the front you could tell that the Eagles were down on confidence. We won that third quarter in the next best way.

Surely you jest? He won't get another gig the way he carried on at Essendon this year.
-
He told him he sucked at Fortnite. Jetta responded by saying he's an adult and that he plays Dota and that Fornite is for little kids. Lecras then said Dota sucks. Cue fight.

He would be an upgrade on Garlett no doubt.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - CLAYTON OLIVER
praha replied to Freddy Fuschia's topic in Melbourne Demons
Trade him. -
What we got away with and the Eagles DIDN'T get doesn't compare to some of the weak BS rhey *do* get. The umpiring was very good on Sunday. Both ways. Omac definitely should have been penalised but it wouldn't have made a difference imo. If you do watch the replay though, his head is down as he collects the ball and is tackled, so he doesn't quite duck into it.

It was the Deebrief Podcast page. Was gobsmacked by that result.

Members tickets technically are non transferrable, and in the time since we last played, the league and MCG have been pretty aggressive with regards to that. I've seen both someone's MCC membership revoked (2012), and had my dad's AFL Gold membership downgraded to silver for 12 months when I went with a mate to watch a final in 2010 and gave him that membership to use. Now I believe it's a straight up revoke. All types of membership have in the T&Cs that you may be asked for ID.

I'm confused. If you finish top 4 and you lose week one, you get a home final in week 2. How did you conclude we have to travel to Sydney or Perth?Top 2 guarentees at least two home final, top 4 at least 1. Positions 5-6 is a maximum of one, while 7-8 is no home finals.
