This has already been floated weeks before and it keeps coming back to Collingwood have a deal with Grundy, not Melbourne. Still a few days out from the Grand Final and journo's are running out of stories.
-
I call BS! Dunstan has already retired.😂
-
I'm coming around to the idea of throwing a 2 year peanuts deal out to Levi Casboult. Can play ruck, back and forward, is great in the air and should have no issue spending time at Casey. Plus we wouldn't even need to play him in the ruck at Casey so as not to interfere with Farris-White and Verrell's development, however could walk straight into ruck in the seniors should Max get injured.
-
It's why I suspect we might be big on midfielders in the draft this year. Sanders or McKrecher at 5. Wilson or Leake at 13. Brown later on. Expect Woewodin and Laurie to get a lot more games next year and more midfield minutes for Rivers, Pickett and Nibbler.

Frankston Oval (Kinetic Stadium)
MadAsHell replied to Bobby McKenzie's topic in AFLW Melbourne Demons
Frankston Oval is also right near pub corner and the main entertainment precinct in town. So after a game you have a host of options as to where to go. Need something for the kids, take them to the cinema, Holey Moley or General Public. Want a craft beer, then Hop Shop and Cheeky Squire are right there. Want to hit the night clubs, The Deck and Lona Bar are near by. Want a counter meal and pokies, The Grand is also there. Or want to get in a fight, well Flanagans is also close by! Perfect positioning for what the town has to offer. -
My expectations: OUT: Dunstan (ret), Hibberd (ret), Jordon (FA), Grundy (trade), Harmes (trade), D. Smith (del), Melksham*(del) + one of either Brown (ret) or Tomlinson (trade) but not both. ROOKIE Promotions: D. Turner & McVee (year early) Re-Rookie: Melksham IN: McAdam (trade) That leaves 4 senior list positions & 2 rookie list positions. At least one of those spots you'd want to be a ruck that can also play forward or even back. Having another string to their bow is important to still allow Verrall and Farris-White to try and develop at Casey. And if we're not going for Pick 4, I'd love it if we pulled off a trade for Naughton. Would give us huge flexibility with choosing who between he and Petty plays forward or back.
-
Surely the rumour about St Kilda trading Pick 12 for Shiel and then get Pick 13 compo for letting Gresham walk to Essendon as a free agent can't be correct. AFL just can't allow it. No one in their right mind believes Pick 12 for Shiel is market value!
-
Either if Stuart Dew or Brett Ratten would both be ideal IMO.
-
This is the thing. While I don't see it as yet, what's not to say Jed Adams doesn't have a brilliant pre season and is pushing for selection early next year? None of us saw McVee's rise coming at this stage last year. So by moving McDonald back it spreads their positions out and McDonald could be passed as our main defensive back up pretty quick anyway.
-
Brown started the year well with 8 goals in his first 2 games, but it appears his knees are cactus and father time may have caught up to Tommy Mc. I still wouldn't be shocked if we do trade Tomlinson and McDonald is moved back to defence at Casey as our key defensive back up so we're at least spreading out the two key post spots taken between forward and back and not just forward.
-
Very sad to see the Moose leave Casey. He's been an absolute warrior! All the best Jimmy.
-
Still wouldn't be shocked to see him elsewhere next year as it seems Goody just has him pegged as a back up. Personally I thought they might throw T-Mc back at Casey next year to be the back up and allow Jefferson more opportunities to develop. I'm hoping we see Disco Turner in the 22 next year as our 3rd tall defender.
-
I'm also in the Chol camp. Pick 4 and Chol for three of our picks. He can play forward and in the ruck, so it makes sense.
-
No. But I'll answer again after the 2025 season.

Let's at least wait until after the draft...

Campbell Brown calls the Melbourne Football Club "fragile"
MadAsHell replied to Supreme_Demon's topic in Melbourne Demons
The guy if a [censored] of the highest order. However..... Our last 4 finals results does suggest mental fragility IMO. The only way to stop it is by playing better football next September. The club stuffed up two years in a row and now they have to cop a fair whack. I do conceed we seem to cop more of it than other clubs do however.- 83 replies

Will depend on what sort of contract he gets. But I suspect we'll get band 5. So after our 3rd Round Pick.
-
Very sad to see him go. I rated Jordon. Was coming 4th in our B&F after Round 18 last year.

Solid player who was unlucky not to get a few more senior games with us. An absolute beast at VFL level!

The 2023 Draft and Trade Targets Thread
MadAsHell replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
Best case scenario to get Harley Reid. Assuming North Melbourne get Pick 3 compensation for McKay. Melbourne trade Grundy to Sydney Sydney trade Pick 31 to Adelaide & Pick 42 to Melbourne Adelaide trade McAdam to Melbourne. Melbourne trade Picks 14, 25, 33 & 42 to Gold Coast Gold Coast trade Pick 5 & Chol to Melbourne. Melbourne trade Pick 5 (from Gold Coast), future 1st Round Pick, Harmes & Tomlinson to North Melbourne North Melbourne trade Pick 2 & 60 (points for potential Brown F/S bid) to Melbourne Melbourne trade Pick 2 (from North) & Pick 6 to West Coast West Coast trade Pick 1 & future 2nd or 3rd Round Pick. We'll also be a chance for band 5 compensation for Jordon leaving as a Free Agent I reckon being approx Pick 53. -
The 2023 Draft and Trade Targets Thread
MadAsHell replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
No is the short answer. -
Excuses are there. But they're just that. Excuses. Fact of the matter is we could and should have won both last night and last week. We've lost 4 consecutive finals, all on the MCG with three of them being to teams ranked lower who don't have the G as their home ground. We need to take our opportunities otherwise we'll risk turning into the Essendon of 99-01, just not as good. I think we already have the majority of what we need. Petty and Van Rooyen up forward with Fritsch, Pickett and McAdam (next year) for some x factor. May (few more years) and Lever marshalling the young troops in Rivers, McVee, Bowey and Disco Turner with Salem hopefully getting back to his best. Gawn (few more years) leading Viney, Trac, Oliver, Sparrow, Langdon and Hunter in the middle. Hopefully all it will take will be the polished of Harley Reid, maybe recruiting someone like Chol for that ruck back up and some more creative coaching and that can be enough to turn it all around...

Cam Pedersen mould. Kicked over 70 goals in his career to date and often played 2nd ruck at Hawthorn. Having 4 specialist rucks on a list is too many and doesn't give the young ones the exposure at Casey they need to develop. Unless of course they plan on cutting one of Verrell or Farris-White. Then Goldstein would be perfect.
-
Sorry, got my ex Hawthorn players mixed up. Haha. I meant Tim O'Brien.
-
He's an ideal replacement should Max get injured, however don't we want someone who doesn't have to play ruck the whole time at Casey and stifle the development of Verrell and Farris-White? I think someone like Scott Lycett or Mitch Thorpe could suit our list development needs better as we can play them forward at Casey if needed?
