i've never really turned on players. I either know they can play or know that they cant play from the moment they play their first few games.
-
to be honest, I wouldn't care less if Cale Morton or Jack Watts confronted me. Both have the intimidation equal to Nikki Webster. In todays age, we are obsessed with stats and just because Watts and Morton collect a few cheap possies doesn't mean they are improving. if Watts just went back with the flight of the ball once, just once, then that would be cause for optimism. But he doesnt. He lets us down time and time again. Moving around Watts from back to forward is like re-arranging deck chairs on the Titanic. I would just prefer our club to admit we made a mistake with many of our early draft choices so we dont have to waste time with them. Watts would deem a late 2nd round pick now, and Morton maybe a late 3rd rounder. This is their worth. Sylvia and Moloney won't be delisted. They are simply too good. They may seek a trade which is another story but they have dominated too many games to be thrown away. And I'm a supporter and I never leave games early because I stay right to the very end hoping to see an act of courage or bravery from a player other than Jones, Clarke, Howe and Rivers. Any glimpse of hope is what we ask for. Change things up just to try to offer hope. And please lets start recruiting guys that can hit a target. I mean even our captain Grimes can't hit the broad side of a barn.

Why did Watts play well, he was the loose man in defence. Stats don't tell everything. Mcdonald has been praised by commentators etc. because he works hard and has a good aerobic capacity. He has also butchered the ball all over the place resulting in about 6 goals from direct turnovers. For once, this was pointed out by one of the commentators as a flaw to his game. Fitzpatrick tries hard but his skills are terrible. Davis is slow and has terrible skills. Has heart but thats not enough. Watts is the opposite, Great skills, no heart. Bail runs well and tackles well but his skills are terrible and can barely kick 50metres. I don't think you would find many melbourne supporters that would care too much if we got rid of the whole list and started from scratch. it's the truth and it hurts. Wish we picked up Naitanui like I always said. Blease was good though. We can keep him.

Goddard was never soft. Watts has already shown everyone that he is. And thats the difference. Weight doesnt make you tough.
-
Watts didnt have an opponent all night. i could have racked up 30 tonight if that was my role.

we have more players than just sylvia. Sure, seeing Sylvia joking around wasn't what you wanted to see but at least we know he can play footy when he is on. At season's end I'd like to see the following players OFF the list: Bail, Bate, Bartram, Morton, Watts, Bennell, Davey, McDonald, Macdonald, Davis, Fitzpatrick, Green and Jetta. Thats 13 players. Mcdonald may surprise a few but his kicking is pathetic, absolutely pathetic.

Scully is better than Martin. I still believe that. Scully can play inside and out. Martin, whilst a gun inside midfielder that kicks goals. he doesnt spread hard enough from the contest. he has flaws too. Scully will turn out to be better
-
I felt like he lied when he said that Bartram had pointed out his 'inability to stick to structures'...surely it was 'his softness at the contest' that is evident for all to see.

We will be forced to take viney with our early pick. Everyone knows we are committed to him

you think Magner learnt his courage through the vfl? That's ridiculous! He would have been a hardnut as soon as he started playing footy. Just like Jack Viney is already a hardnut. You can't teach or learn hardness, it's an innate ability and its the sole reason why Cale Morton and Watts will never improve in this area

You can't exactly go back to the vfl to work on your courage. Can you?

watts was the biggest blunder of recent draft history. Naitanui is a machine and everything that we needed...a mobile ruckman that is a tackling machine, an excitement machine and can play forward. Watts, whilst recorded a good 20m split time at draft camp covers the ground slow, is timid, doesn't tackle well and whilst given ample opportunity hasn't done anywhere near enough. I wouldn't be disappointed if we made a statement and traded him. he is 21 now, he has trade value. As a club we should be making a statement and not put up with physically weak performances. A mitch Robinson type is what we need. We didnt have the b@lls to pick up Jack Darling, when he was a perfect fit for our club. When are we going to make a stand and make the tough decisions. We pick players based on leadership traits which is a bad move I reckon. As good as Grimes is, and as a good of a man he is reported to be, he still butchers the ball out of defence and makes poor decisions. He cost us 2-3 goals on the weekend

I know the commentators thought McDonald was good but his first half was deplorable. The conditions didn't suit key forwards

Well jack viney is playing at the moment so it's cant be bad

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - JACK VINEY
Freak replied to einstein251's topic in Melbourne Demons
Gee,people need to get it out of their thick skulls. We are going to get Viney next year regardless. We signed him up for 5 years already, we lured his Father (a melbourne legend) down from Adelaide specifically to get Jack Viney at the club. And now people are suggesting that we might tell Todd Viney that we are willing to let his son move away from him for 2 years. Laughable. -
Picks: 2,3, 9, plus two picks in the mid 20s
Freak replied to Grand New Flag's topic in Melbourne Demons
wait, we will not possibly use our first pick on Viney. Because the pp rule is that we will use our first pick AFTER the club that nominates him. so unless the gold coast or gws say his name (which they wont) because what happens if something happens if GWS say they would pick up Viney with their first pick. then all of a sudden he has a career ending injury (touch wood!)..then they would be forced to. They arent going to leave anythign to chance and they will just pick up whoever they want. Gold Coast the same -

Why are we so surprised about our performances? We don't have jurrah, Sylvia or scully in our team like we did last year -
At the end of the day, if he isn't better than Naitanui then we have failed right? People, can't use the excuse of 'oh, but we needed a Key forward' because Watts will never be that key forward. We had the opportunity of picking up Naitanui and we chose not to, when I, and many other football followers knew that this was going to be a mistake. And Naitanui is streets ahead of Watts and is already a fantastic player.

im at the point now where I would be happy to trade him. He has done nothing special in 3 years, not even any glimpses to be honest. I reckon I would do something good on a footy field if I was given 30-40 games. He is just dropping in value at each time he squibs a contest or doesn't crash a pack.

scully soft? he is a hard nut. its amazing how much everyone changes their opinion on scully just because he left. an absolute machine.

I can't see how if Ablett and Franklin were standing next to each other then people could choose Ablett. Franklin is key position and has been the best key position for years. Ablett is a gun midfielder but there are many gun midfielders going around. Franklin

yet some people here wanted him to be a captain candidate. absolute joke

Disagree. His ball drop is unnatural and it makes his kicking inconsistent.
-
Just needs to work on his disposal. it still lets him down
-
yep, gysberts foot skills are below average for a midfielder. It's his contested skills and ball-finding ability that is promising.
