  1. I don’t know why I feel so shocked every week watching us display dismal skills, but bloody hell - we are SO POOR.
  2. Incredibly pathetic. This is absolutely white flag sort of stuff.
  3. You’re absolutely correct, but this also goes to the larger point that people are inherently unable to discern the difference between articles of fact cf. opinion pieces.
  4. That’s very ‘Melbourne’ of you.
  5. "“I’m pretty proud of that midfield time and hopefully I can do a bit more midfield stuff next year.” " http://melbournefc.com.au/news/1652188/mcvees-moves-a-question-from-goodwin
  6. I'm actually somewhat coming around to this, especially if Derksen comes in and is playing in the Seniors. I'd much rather May down forward as opposed to Petty (as much as I think Petty is a waste of space forward, he still is adequately able to contribute down back IMO).
  7. Green is an appalling media performer, he lacks any form of polish and really struggles to substantively engage in any discussion worthy of analytical value. The sooner he is out, the better for all parties. I won't be sad to see some of his cringeworthy social media posts left in the annals of the social media wasteland.
  8. I understand that this isn't a popular opinion on this forum, but 2022 and 2023 were failed seasons too. People can reel off all the 'mitigations' they want, but the fact is that two consecutive straight set exits has never occurred before in the history of the game. I think this is often undersold in the context of Goodwin's tenure, people are too happy to purely sight the ladder position as being indicative of success, rather than the end output which is a more accurate measure (IMO) in a high performance environment, particularly coming off the 2021 premiership and net result. I personally think the cracks started to emerge during both those seasons that our style was not as strong in totality and the game had already started to move past our tactics and strategy and unfortunately, we never really adjusted or pivoted in a meaningful manner; now some of that may come down to lack of players in order to compete in the modern game, but then that also falls back on the FD. For the sake of discussion, that starts to get a little bit into the realms of chicken and egg type of stuff; a bit of a wicked problem. I agree with most of what you've said though, particularly that this is somewhat of an uncommon scenario and that there's other metrics involved in the dismissal - I'd imagine it's been viewed in the totality of results from 2022 - current which are, at the end of the day, underwhelming at best.
  9. Are you living in an echo chamber?
  10. I agree overall, but think some of the criticism of Windhager is slightly exaggerated. He's going at 60.3 kicking efficiency this season, compare that to Petracca at 48.9%, Viney at 47.6% and Oliver at 54.1%. It's worth noting though that given those three are so poor, it's hard not to bring in someone who is a substantial improvement regardless.
  11. Viney in the forward line is an interesting prospect. I'm not sure he has totality of attributes to make it work (as opposed to those in the Dan Butler/Jack Higgins/Cam Rayner/Beau McCreery moulds), but he is a surprisingly accurate kick for goal. If he's taking a set shot, I'd back him in 9/10 times. I will say though, I think if Viney wants to see out his contract playing in the senior side, he needs more strings to his bow than what he currently displays. It would be worth experimenting with.
  12. I agree you can't play him alongside Viney, Trac and Oliver. Ideally he would replace Viney, IMO (once again - this makes the Viney extension extremely debilitating given he is an upgrade on him), but could also be in the mix if we moved Oliver on.
  13. We haven't been one of the clubs mentioned; StK, Essendon, Carlton and also Port Adelaide.
  14. TBF, that was Goodwin’s modus operandi.
  15. Do you have any insights on McVee you can provide? I'd even be interested on your own take. It's been put to me at best it's a 50/50, and this was a few weeks ago. Personally can't see a signing happening now, unless of course it's still somewhat dependent on the coaching move/announcement.
  16. Cornes' analysis is usually pretty spot on. He can overcook things for the sake of clicks and engagement (which he does extremely well), but generally the gist and context of what he says is excellent and on the mark.
  17. Pleasingly younger than I actually thought he was, he'll be turning 23 just before the start of the 2026 season. Definitely should get an extension with us. Unfathomable that WCE let him go.
  18. The sooner the new coach comes in and moves the MFC butcher on the better. Absolutely heinous ball use on show in the fourth.
  19. Damn son, definitely playing like an individual ‘invested’ in the club.
  20. As a grammophile, yes you are correct. ‘Unique’ is a binary concept. Something is either unique, or it isn’t. But I would expect that my learned colleague would understand that in informal language, or as a rhetorical tautology, the use of ‘unique’ is often used a scalable term to convey how strikingly different something feels. Therefore, something can be: Unique: in a literal sense, no other is like it; Extremely unique: so different that concept or item feels more exceptional than other ‘unique’ things one has seen; Somewhat unique: unusual traits, but not essentially one of a kind. So whilst your learned colleague may frown on “extremely unique”, for many the use of term would act as an intensifier for emotional impact, rather than the mathematical application of binary logic. Though for the sake of sanity, would it please my esteemed colleague if I referred to items as: Barely distinctive; Mildly unusual; Distinctive; Remarkably distinctive; Rare; Singular; Astoundingly singular; and World-changing singular. If we wish to be strict about our interpretation, points 6 - 8 are the only true indicators of “uniqueness”. Points 1 - 5 would typically refer to degrees of distinctiveness (cf. uniqueness). I’ve enjoyed this exchange on this forum.
  21. Only after 7PM.
  22. Closer than you think.
  23. In what world is reporting linear and binary? The constant obsession with self-victimisation r.e. the media on this forum is petulant. FYI - Oliver himself stated that he was put on the trade table: Clayton Oliver says he ‘doesn’t blame’ Melbourne for putting him on the trade table last year
