  1. I don't buy the argument that says Geelong will fail in finals because they don't have the advantage of their narrow ground. Sure it is a big advantage in getting them to the finals (ridiculous for a professional sport to allow such a variation in playing area), but they do get to 'practice' every second week on normal grounds. Surely that is enough.
  2. Of course he didn’t deliberately kick the hand (or impossible to prove otherwise) but surely it is graded as careless etc.
  3. Someone commented that it was in play and not deliberate so there should be no penalty beyond the free kick. But the offence was kicking in DANGER. Why does this escape further penalty when Chandlers did not? In play dangerous tackle vs in play dangerous kick. The only difference is the focus on concussion. But I bet if Chandler had broken the blokes arm he would have still been rubbed out.
  4. We played very poorly last night and maybe cats could have made more of their chances but surely we can take some comfort from the fact we were only centimetres from drawing level during Q4 despite being outplayed.
  5. We can stop complaining about certain teams never playing at Tax Stadium. Now that the AFL is increasingly focussing on TV viewership and is happy to generate artifical crowd noises, in a few years they won't give a damn about making C'wood play at Kardinia Park.
  6. I have a Guide to Reading the Match Day posts. It bears a striking similarity to Demonstone's Guide on Posting to the Luke Jackson thread. ie. Don't.
  7. Wasn't one of those goals a result of a short pass onto his chest by Weid? If so, I'd say they sahred that one.
  8. Yes, he did what he had to - and could do. But in the longer term he needs to be able to do more in some role. Presumably/hopefully somewhere there is a big bodied back-up ruck available in 2023 (Daw Mark II) who could ruck better?

and you're posting on a footy fan site?
  10. I wish someone would invent a machine that can reproduce such blows accurately and wheneever a commentator says a player dropped too easily they would have to take the same blow from the machine. They'd shut up quick smart.

To those that say "we won, get over the umpiring", I say there is nothing wrong with discussing any and all aspects of a game. When the umpiring is egregious, it is likely to figure prominently in people's comments on the game. Why not? We don't have to prove how morally superior we are by chosing to overlook it. Furthermore when you can only see a match on TV, there is a lot you cannot see and therefore can't reasonably discuss, but the umpiring usuallly stands out. It has been pretty bad so far this weekend. So it will be commented on. To quote those who say "get over it", I say, get over people commenting on it.
  12. Classic case of player looking at opponent rather than ball. Worst free I’ve seen for a long time
  13. I feel dirty
  14. These commentators would be annoying if you didn’t want to know the scores in the AFL match. Don’t they realise that anyone watching the match is capable of looking up the AFL score whenever they want.
  15. It’s happening in the AFL too
  16. Actually we don’t really know who’ll be available next week, do we.
  17. So no info on the extent of the injury?
  18. Calm down DD. As a so called parent I wasn’t criticising him personally. Just a general comment about young adults and the improved long distance communication that is available these days. Which increases the chances of him being happy living ‘remotely’. As you say we don’t know anything about his particular circumstances.
  19. And as I alluded to earlier, with video-phone calls and text messaging, keeping in touch these days is a breeze. I am in contact with my son who lives overseas more than I did with my own parents when I lived in the same city as them. And when I lived oevrseas, it was the weekly aerogramme (for those old enough to know what that was).
  20. What's with this pressure to return home by young adults to be near family and friends? Our kids buzzed off to pursue careers and other things and have made new friends wherever they went. And without the sort of money in the bank that AFL players can have (if they have any sense). They still keep in touch with old friends and family which these days is 1000 times easier than it was only 25 years ago. Do footy players never grow up? Yeah, I'm probably a rotten parent.
  21. I don't think I'm saying anything profound, but draft picks are a lottery. Pick 3's who have proved themselves are not. I'm not sure how many top 5 picks = Jackson. If there is a trade, surely a fair deal requires both picks and an established good player.
  22. Goodwin seemed to be pumping up Jackson's price in his presser today. Read into that what you wish.
  23. How in hell can his act get only a week or two more than Chandler got for an errant tackle.
  24. Surely a deliberate not-in-play and not-football-related act (Stewart) deserves a much much bigger penalty than Chandler's unfortunate tackle (accidental, in play, tackling part of the game) We shall see.
  25. What happened to Collingwood in the last bit of the game. I turned off when they got a couple in a row but they ended up winning by only 11pts
