  1. Anyone remember Mark Riley?
  2. I was so totally opposed to the Hawks merger in 1996. I bought a Hawthorn membership every year as well as MFC until 2006 to "thank" Don Scott for saving Melbourne. Tonight, for the first time, I truly think we should have merged. And that sucks.
  3. Just loved this. The instant Trengove was in a push and shove after the siren, Jamar is there with his big body to push people around. Instantly. #bloodbrothers
  4. I think there's also parallels with losing Gerard Healy. Clearly that was a comprehensive net loss for the club. Long before draft picks as compensation though.
  5. And it was the Sunday after Melbourne made the Grand Final by beating North at the G on the Friday Night. Queued up at the G all morning to buy GF tickets, then hot-footed it out to Waverley to watch the Zebs. From memory Ben Beams was the only player in line to play in two premierships in a week had the Dees won. I think he was a late inclusion for Cam Bruce for the Demons.
  6. What a horrible, horrible, unfair, non-discriminatory thing cancer is. Any time you have an opportunity, and can afford even a tiny bit, please support the anti-cancer initiatives MFC (and others) get involved in. We in the MFC community seem to have been touched more than most recently. Every bit helps. RIP Jo.
  7. You took the words right out of my mouth Dr.
  8. Good words H&S. A great great demon, who made his life exceptional.
  9. Yep, got this. It's called "The Football Song" and was the common B Side to all the classic Fable club theme song singles of the 60s and early 70s. As with all the theme songs it was performed by "The Fable Singers" and arranged in a very similar style with banjo and a big brass section. Here we go: When the football season comes around again and the fans are swarming to the grounds again there's a kind of fever that keeps us on our toes hear the fans a-roaring as the whistle blows Though it's boring and your team's behind still you never throw in the glove (sic!) 'cos it's football season and that's the reason it's the time of the year that we love. Then the reprise has a really funky pre-chorus riff: Grab your coat and your rug and your thermos and mug let it rain let it shine though your team isn't fine it's the football season and that's the reason it's the tiiiiimme of the yeeeeeaarrr that we looooooooovvvvve
  10. What's this quarter final talk? We've won two nab cup games. Shouldn't we be in a semi-final by now?
  11. Is Maric eligible for Rising Star this year?
  12. From thedisabledlist.com A torn pectoral muscle isn't the easiest injury in the world to deal with. The interesting thing is that it sometimes leads to an end of a career, and not just a season. What is the pectoral muscle? The pectoral muscle is located in your chest and helps your arms and shoulders move and lift. It's a major muscle in your chest and covers the clavicle. What is a torn pectoral muscle? When you tear your pectoral muscle the fibers of the muscle rupture. This is extremely painful, and they are varying degrees from strain to a full tear. What are the symptoms of a torn pectoral muscle? Pain, very severe pain in the chest area Swelling Bruising Loss of a vertical lifting power Loss of horizontal mobility How do you tear your pectoral muscle? A majority of the injuries occur due to over work when lifting weights or other force based activities such as chopping wood. Bertrand's injury occurred when he attempted to tackle someone. The force of the player was too much for his pectoral muscle to absorb. How do you treat a torn pectoral muscle? Depending on the severity of the tear it may require surgery. If it doesn't require surgery rest and treatment with ice and heat will help. Immobilizing and limiting the mobility of movement is key. When surgery is called for the surgeon will reconnect the muscle, but in most cases the muscle will never be as strong or as flexible prior to the injury. Rehabilitation with this injury is long and painful. Does not look good for Chip.
  13. Sounds bad, with club making a statement tomorrow. Anyone know the prognosis for pectoral injuries???
  14. Port Adelaide at AAMI in the last round
  15. Actually he's a Melbourne contracted player until October 30. AFL standard contracts by design run past the trade period, so no-one is "out of contract" during trade week.
  16. For those "lucky" enough to have experienced the bad old standing room days, what's the best/worst you've seen? Mine was a Hawthorn supporter, I think in 78, who had a garden hose running down his pants so he could relieve himself without losing his spot. Worked OK. Only problem was when some blokes around him realised what was going on, and surreptitiously stood on the end of the hose and waited. The inevitable rupturing of the system was something to behold. Suffice to say it blew at the top end. The hose was last seen being flung, full of urine, into the next bay. Probably landed on some poor kid. Absolutely true story.
  17. As has been mentioned here before, I think it's only fitting that we do the right thing and trade Trengove for McMahon.
  18. Two things: Surely we can hit up Ian Johnson at HSV 7 for a few no-charge screenings - starting with Friday night footy. I love the bit where Jimmy talks about the club's thirteenth premiership. Hawthorn did this in 2004 - talked about the drive to their tenth premiership. To me, talking about our 13th makes it sound tangible and achievable and even inevitable. I'd like to see the club adopt this tone frequently. Plus it also reminds the world we've actually already won more than any but 3 other clubs - something seemingly brushed aside by those who's have us moved or out of the competition.
  19. Worst bit of Microsoft Paint I've ever seen. But funny.
  20. SEN website says "will likely nominate for the pre-season draft". (my emphasis)
  21. "and so the man of history comes to the club of history in it's 151st year." Love it.
  22. 4) Take a step back and become footy manager at Richmond
