  1. Given the our likely priority pick coming soon we may have to make room for some new players, who would you get rid of, and how many? Obviously there are a few players there that do not deserve to be even considered for delisting, but I thought I should throw them up anyway. I have taken trading out as an option because that might allow us to free up some spots on the list, and therefore make this poll difficult to work out.
  2. This is great, given our current position on the ladder, all the negativity in the media about tanking and the opportunity for him to earn more money at GC17, this is a clear message from a very important future player that all is well in the minds of the playing group. Good to see.
  3. Trading away players for early picks will take us a step backwards. We need to start moving up the ladder sooner rather than later. If anything I would trade away our second pick for a very good proven player 25 or younger. I don't know that any are available, but I see the value of an early pick for us to be less than for other clubs who might be more desperate. If not I would also like to see us trade down our second pick for a later first round pick to secure another player of appropriate value. A player that can play now and add something to the team. This is because I can't see a genuine stand out pick 2 but I do see some players I would be keen to pick up in the mid to late first round area. We should also consider that it is possible many clubs will find picks in the 3rd round and beyond worth having where we might be passing by then or close to it, so I would suggest using them in a trade somehow.
  4. This is a dangerous situation, whether or not the club is affected will remain to be seen but certainly in the media this will be a noose around baileys neck.
  5. Infighting aside, Dunn did perform well yesterday, his long kicking was damaging. He's just now getting to the time in his career where he should be using his natural attacking ability and size to take the game on. Still has a way to go in terms of maturity and commitment, but he has done enough to keep his spot and his upside is far ahead of the likes of Bartram or Bell.
  6. I don't mind this award, I particularly enjoyed watching Davey make fools out of two Richmond players again. Is it the award you take issue with or is it the way in which it is awarded?
  7. In a way I agree with White, who I might add is one of Melbuurne's best players in the last decade and a fantastic servant of the club. The tanking, or the perception of tanking is having a bad effect on our club, and he is right to take issue with it. But the circumstances are such that Bailey is forced into a lose-lose situation by the AFL's policy of priority picks. Jeff just needs to redirect his anger towards the source. If it is him.
  8. Tough decision, I would get rid of all the older players but i would do it with a heavy heart.
  9. Let's get bogged down in detail for a second, split some hairs and forget about the absurdity of what I am arguing: 10.4.2 says to me that the game was finished "when any one of the field Umpires....hears the siren." Not when they acknowledge that they heard it, but when they actually heard it, and not just the Ump right near the play but any of the others who could be on the wing, including "technically" the one on the bench. Now I was top level, near the front so quite near the siren. The closest field ump was likely well within 100m of me, and that is assuming there wasn't another ump/siren combination that was much closer. All that considered I am certain that, given the maths, an umpire heard the siren and therefore got the decision wrong. Albeit probably one of many.
  10. That's some crystal ball there Bob, I particularly like the "experimentation" part.
  11. I assume that the "processing" speed was the same for him as it was for me, so they cancel eachother out. So if I was roughly 100m away from the ump; at that speed of sound the time differential for me/the ump would be .3 of a second, and although I do admit I am working from memory I must say I was sure it looked to me that the time from when I heard the siren to when Mcmahon took the mark was well beyond .3 of a second. I'm not about to call up the AFL and complain though.
  12. Or indeed the speed of light and the time it took for the light to travel to me. But I prefer to live in the knowledge that we actually won, and we still miss out on those horrible 4 points.
  13. I don't know much but I do remember an interview with him on Hutchy's TAC cup show, he was a very impressive kid. Mike Sheehan was talking about him as a possibility to be drafted, which suggests to me that he will go late. I would have thought his brother has gone a fair way to getting him drafted. My hope is that we pick him up, would other clubs be scared to pick him up in case he wants to play with his brother? Probably not but I can hope.
  14. If i can remember my SOHCAHTOA, use 340m/s as the speed of sound, account for the variation in elevation, curvature of the earth, I figure that from where I was and where the ball appeared to be when I heard the siren, that the ump musyt have heard the siren before McMahon had completed the mark. Therefore, we actually won and we were robbed of a victory, and thank god the umpire has a sense of drama.
  15. Take some heat out of the tanking debate, I was hoping something like this would come up.
  16. Great work Deestroy, Geez that's exciting. A few things i noticed from the videos; Jurrah looked like he was absolutley stuffed in some of those videos (WC game), which I take to mean that he will benefit greatly from a preseason and some extra fitness and strength. He has the softest hands in the AFL, and his field kicking and decision making kicking into the 50 are just as good if not better than his marking and kicking for goal. Also Bate looked impressive in a couple of instances, he is just getting to that size that he can break tackles and use his body. A bit of luck with some injuries and we have 10-12 years of this kind of exciting football to come.
  17. Yes! Complete the JACKATTACK!!
  18. I am on my iphone now and I don't think I would use an app that follows a specific player because I am intereted in the team news not just the player. For me to use an app it would need to have a point of distinction from the other afl apps. The only thing you mentioned that I would find slightly interesting would be the video part. Other than that the oher afl apps do everything I want. That said I would probably pay $2 for an app that had the word demon or Melbourne in it just because I can. EDIT: As it happens I have 2 afl apps: "AssieRules" which is good for live scores and stats, but annoys me because I can't get the fixture for games beyond the next week. And "Aussie...LIVE" but i'm not sure that is the full name, it is good for the fixture but is a bit slow for scores. AssuiRules is my preference, but it does get jammed up at times, so if you can write one that is similar but works all the time then I would use it.
  19. Dunn proved yesterday that he is a good VFL player.
  20. Can't get the images, even clicking on them and redirecting to imageshack and I just get a red cross.
  21. I don't think it is as ugly as you make it out to be, in the case of Newton he might be better served to be paid out, be free to move to another club via the PSD and maybe give himself a chance in a different environment. A win-win for club and player, Newton could even get a double dip. I'm not advocating it in this case, i am simply suggesting it as a realistic option that is certainly worth considering, i'm sure the club is also considering it.
  22. The sole aim of the football club is to serve its members, provide a quality product, which for me is the ability to go to the footy with my friends and family and enjoy the event. Premierships make that experience far more enjoyable, improve the product and in doing so serve the members, but for me it is serve the members first. I frame it like this: In purely hypothetical situation, understanding that the questions are rediculously absurd. Would you give up all our members and supporters for a premiership? Would you support the club if you knew they weren't going to win a premiership? For me it is No, and Yes.
  23. Kneejerk. At no point did I suggest that option 2 was my preference. I simply suggested that given the results of the poll, that the people who voted 'No' would then be forced to ask this question. If you must know I voted 'No' to the Poll, and probably fall on the line of giving Juice another year (1) as per his contract, but only just. And given the general feel of some posters here I would suggest that many would prefer option 2, despite the need to appease other players. As I see it one of Bell, Dunn, Newton & PJ (who all have contracts for next year?) will have to be moved on, so we face the situation anyway. I would be dissapointed if the club holds on to sub-par players simply because they don't want to get players and player managers off side.
  24. I voted No, but I don't think it is that black or white,a more relevant question would be: Considering he has a year left on his contract would you; 1: Keep Juice on the books. 2: Pay out his contract and delist.
