Pick 3 overs for Papley. If we split the pick, then on-trading one of those picks in the teens for him would be a good get. Would prefer to keep pick 3 though!

I'm surprised there's not more chatter about him as a free agent option. He'd be upgraded depth at worst, or an upgraded wing/half back at best. Definitely worth pursuing as a free agent as long as his wage demands weren't high.

I can't see that article linked either, but I'm assuming it has excerpt from Mahoneys interview this morning where he stated two top 10 picks would be value for splitting pick 3.

It is a guess. If Ellis is going to GC at 600k and Tigers get an end of first round pick as comp, I'd imagine Elliott contract is roughly the same as that, and therefore end of first round compo. My thoughts above are based on that assumption, but in reality the AFL just makes up rubbish as it sees fit. Pies will definitely let him go if they get end of first round compo and free up some cap space to retain Grundy, Degoey and Moore (who are all out of contract within 12 months).

Murray has attributes we need, but there's better options out there. Tom Cutler from Brisbane should be one we chase instead.

99% will be in red and blue next year. Pies salary cap is at the limit, and they have an abundance fo medium and small forwards. He's the exact type of player they can afford to lose. They're just positioning themselves to look like they tried their best to keep him. If they just rushed him out the door their fans wouldn't be happy, as he's a fan favorite and a good footballer. It's smart for them to cash in while they can and get a first round pick as compo. Elliott came out of the meeting with Pies yesterday and he didn't say 'it was great, I'll be a Pie next year etc'. He walked out and said 'I've got a few days now to explore my options, still hopeful' etc. It was the talk of someone that is 100% gone and couldn't say anything yet as he's still negotiating and didn't want to burn a bridge or commit publicly to his new club until negotiations are done.

Wouldn't be confident that all (or any) of Flanders, Kemp, Ash will be around at 11. I think Flanders and Ash will go 4-8 and Kemp 8-12. It was reported we were aiming to trade our future second rounder for him and keep this years second rounder. Not sure how realistic it is though.

He’ll go to the Hawks for their third rounder (pick 47ish). We lose the trade IMO, but that’s the game. Thanks for the service and exciting moment Frosty!

Collingwood have an abundance of medium and small forwards and can afford to lose him. If they drive his price up and get a first round compo pick for losing him, they’d be laughing. If anything, they’ll be pushing him out the door, so I think we’ll land him. i just hope his body holds up for us because he’s a proven goal kicker and we need him.

Caldwell is not a pure inside mid. He’s actually more outside at this stage, but he’s capable both inside and outside. He’s really well rounded and if he was included with the split picks then I’d do it in a heartbeat. I rate him as better than this whole draft bar the top two. He’s got a good burst of pace, and a beautiful kick both long and short. He’s exactly what we need and IMO will be a star. The only reason he didn’t play more this year is he was injured/building his body up and basically didn’t play consistent matches until second half of the season. Get him Dees!

GWS can find it elsewhere then unless they’re gonna add a gun player to the trade. Picks 13+19 isn’t anywhere near enough.

Splitting the pick with GWS would be a [censored] trade. Suns want Billy Stretch? Pick 3 + Stretch for Pick 2. Gets Billy where he wants to go, They get mature talent and for only a one pick downgrade. Make it happen Dees. Go [censored] yourselves AFL.

Definitely keen to get him to the Dees. His kicking and drive are what we are lacking, so he’s be upgraded depth at worst. Haven’t heard his name mentioned at all around the traps, but I’m hoping we’ve enquired and can get him across cheaply with little fuss.

Interested to see who tests well for agility and sprint tests. From players we might take, I expect to see Ash and Bianco up there.

I rate him. Would’ve been taken at 3-5 before injury. According to recruiters he hasn’t slid much due to injury, likely coming around 8-10 now. If we split our pick and got picks in the teens back, he’ll likely be gone already.

Injury ruined his career. His first few years were amongst the best by a youngster in my lifetime by a Melbourne player. He was set to become a superstar. Had the hardness, skill, leadership, but mostly game-sense you cannot teach. Reminded me a lot of James Hird how he played. He was neck and neck with Dusty Martin until injury and captaincy. A real shame to have his career pan out the way it did. Best of luck in future Trenners!

Interview and footage on Freo site would say otherwise. He’s also already training with them as an academy type, so he’s going to Freo unfortunately. From memory he does and he debuted for West Coast this year ?

If we split our pick and wind up with two teens picks, Bianco is realistically who we will wind up with. He’s a dashing type with decent kicking skills. He’s risen up the draft boards on the back of good form and all Australian selection. Keep a close eye on him!

Stretch has no trade value. He’s a third round pick who’s been injured and failed to crack a role at afl level. He’d be worth a token pick 70-80 to get him where he wants to go if he wants to leave. Most of our depth like Wagner, JKH etc have no trade value either.

Agreed. I don’t rate him and he has none of the attributes we’re lacking.

GWS winning again makes this option less appealing now. We’d wind up with picks 12 and 16 at this stage. I’d rather just keep pick 2/3 and head to the draft.

All could realistically happen except for the Caldwell part. He was pick 11 a year ago, and wouldn’t be part of any deal unless we added another first rounder. He looks like he could become a gun midfielder and I’d gladly give a first rounder for him if he was up for a move. Someone like Bonar might be a more realistic option to get added to the pick split trade if it happens.
