  1. ND admitted as much last year regarding Yze.
  2. Fagan had his contract extended along with CAC pre-season. They could easily do the selections.
  3. So he contijnues to play favourites...
  4. read the post above yours.
  5. CAC and Fagan won't. Ahem, they are contracted and could easily do selection over the next 10 weeks.
  6. We do have something called a football department.
  7. Because Voss isn't available right now. If ND stays, which I don't think he should, he should no longer have final say at the selection table. Selection should be made by those who will be at the club next year.
  8. Every now and then a born leader comes along, when they do you should strike, even if it may be premature. Voss is one such person. A three time premiership captain who would not let any of his players get away with shirking an issue. A captain who would have spent a lot of time learning from Matthews both on the training track and from the coaches box when injured. Roos says: "Roos said there was so much that an assistant coach had to learn before he could competently tackle the main role. "There's people management, there's match day, there's staff, there's strategies, there's how to handle your fitness, your medical staff and your 38 players," he said. Roos said the senior coach had a responsibility to sponsors and to market the club. There is player management, he'll have CAC to help there. He has match day experience sitting behind Matthews. For fitness we have BB to assist. I reckon Voss knows a bit about the medical staff from experience. He's a deadset legend of the game, he'll have the players respect. He would have managed them to an extent in Brisbane, he'll just have to do it to a larger extent. As for marketing the club, it's not like Michael doesn't handle himself well with the media so that issue doesn't concern me. If we want Voss to coach at Melbourne we have to get him now. If we sign him as an assistant he'll more than likely get a senior job with others before ours became available again. We may have to put up with him learning on the job next year, but I'd wear that. Hell, all new coaches take a little bit of time to settle in, as Ross Lyon is discovering now. We need a coach that will be a breath of fresh air to the club, that will not tolerate failure and that won't back down. Voss is that man and we should sign him up for next year now (on a three year deal), before the competition come knocking on his door later this year. If need be we can bring in someone with senior coaching experience to act as a mentor, like the Hawks did with Clarkson and Parkin. To go with a new coach we need a new captain. Brock is the next captain of the MFC. Injuries or not, he is a born leader, I know I don't have to sell him here so won't. I will stress though, that like Voss he won't accept failure and he won't put up with players shirking the contest. He will have Neitz there next year too to provide help when needed, his own mentor. Rono recently wrote on how we need a revolution. Many here complain about how conservative our club is. Well this will be revolutionary and would be a huge gamble. I say stuff convention (needing an apprenticeship, captain being too young), get some balls and make the move. Throw up names like Shaw and Schimma, they're not a scratch on Voss and coached at their old clubs. I can then compare Beckham and Roy Keane. Voss most likely won't set the world on fire straight away, but he's more likely to than anyone else going around. I'm happy to put up with the learning process he'll inevitably go through (though I personally think he'll master the gig quickly) as it is the only realistic way we'll get him to come to Melbourne.
  9. There's a reason that despite being a member for many years, I've sat in the MFC designated areas very few times. Give me the outer anyday.
  10. Sydney gave a second rounder for Spider, but that's not very relevant. I was happy with the Jolly trade and am not knocking it. I am knocking ND for not throwing the gauntlet to him and giving him a lot more game time or even first ruck in 2003. A season that White was carrying an injury that could have ended his career. Why not rest him and try get it right and challenge his back up? It's probably a good thing he didn't as Jolly would have been exposed and we may not have got a first round pick, but regardless it was poor coaching and helped lead to Jolly getting disillusioned.
  11. nah, they didn't get a free kick from it.
  12. I'm talking about when he played, isn't hard to work out from the coaching comment. Why wasn't he developed in 2003 instead of him warming the bench while our ruckman risked his career playing on one leg. Our season was in the dumps yet we continued to play White and gave Jolly little developement. That is bad coaching. As to the other trade, nice try at a diversion.
  13. Mate, anyone ever call you a corkscrew, as that's a bit of a way to twist what happened. It was poor coaching that he asked to leave.
  14. No I didn't go on Saturday, but it would help if I was in Australia. I don't think we should get rid of Jamar, he has a role to play in our team but I do find it hilarious that anyone woould label him as great. Get real.
  15. Jolly was traded not cos we wanted too but he was going to leave and we'd have got nothing. Jamar a great ruckman?? Jamar can be a great full forward player?? Have you seen any Melbourne games?
  16. I've no problem with the runner being fined, he interferred with play. That said he ws blindsided and didn't mean it. If the runner cops a 7 grand fine, then surely the umpire should too. His mistake was worse than the runners, he had a clear view of the incident and was negligent in not paying a free to Freo. If not the umpire, then the AFL, as his employer, should be fined If the runner, by being negligent in his duties get fined 7 grand then surely the umpire, who was even more megligent in his duties should have to cough up the same amount.
  17. It is good, gave me a laugh Thought the good things come to those that wait line was the best Gee we love the red and blue so we should all shut up and accept mediocrity. We'll all wait patiently and sip on our tea and say "Jolly well done old chaps" through thick and thin. Wipe the brown off your nose, smell the air and notice there's something that stinks a bit at the moment. It ain't what your saying BTW, it's how we're playing which has a lot to do with the coaching.
  18. I do that Jaded, verytime I have to log back in.... it doesn't happen often mind you and doesn't really bother me.
  19. Has been happening here too Bobby
  20. I put this proposition forward. Maybe we should replace Green with Nick Sautner.
  21. Clint Bartram - He was injured in round 22. His new injury is his knee, not his ankle. Don't know much about it, but for the long term I'm not concerned about him as it's not a reco. Matthew Bate - My concern with Bate are the footsteps. This is not acceptable and must be eradicated. Daniel Bell - Was one of our better players from what I saw yesterday. He wasn't on Williams for the whole game. Am not concerned, think he has a bright future in the red and blue. Clint Bizzell - Should have never got 3 years, held the club to ransom and we folded. Poor list management. Nathan Brown - Has been a good servant of the club, good luck next year. Like Bizz, on the list for one too many years, should have had more picks in the 'superdraft'. Cameron Bruce - You're right, he can't do everything, he can't bloody well kick! Simon Buckley - Apparently.... I'll wait and make my own call. I've liked what little I saw of him. Nathan Carroll - As I said elsewhere, not the best FB going around, but better than many. Aaron Davey - A worry, I'm backing him to come out of the slump again soon and everyone here will be blowing wind up his rear end in no time. Ryan Ferguson - Club seems to have no faith in him, so why is he still listed. James Frawley - Like you said, exciting prospect. Garland, ain't seen. Simon Godfrey - I'd take him over some of the pea hearts that don't put in. Brad Green - I was happy with his efforts last year and am expecting vast and quick improvement from him. Ben Holland - I like him, but another with a year too many. He'll have a role to play at times in the year and hopefully he'll do it well. Mark Jamar - Sceptical. It's a furphy to say we lost Jolly (who's ordinary) to keep Jolly. Chris Johnson - I've heard a lot of good things, only seen a few. He needs to step up a bit more. Paul Johnson - I think you are wrong, I hope I am. Travis Johnstone - Has been coasting since he won the Bluey. Has never been very consistent for us and prevents him from being a real top line player. Nathan Jones - Him and Brock working together in the future. I salivate at the thought. James Mcdonald - He's always been a very good player for us, just few saw and credited him with it. Brock Mclean - if only his body can hold together. Brad Miller - I still hold out hope. Until someone shows they play it better, CHF for me. Must get more consistency. Brent Moloney - On the road back and boy, we really need him. David Neitz - Will miss him. He'll be back and hopefully finish his career with no more injuries. Would be glad if his around next year. Ricky Petterd - see garland. Byron Pickett - Recruited as an impact player and he will have an impact many times yet. Jared Rivers - Excellent player, we must keep him. Russell Robertson - not as inconsistent as you say, played injured last year when club should have rested him for first 10 or so weeks. Not his fault, they chose to take that course. Just wish he'd keep his feet in contests more. Colin Sylvia - Could be very good, I worry about his footy smarts. Daniel Ward - Should not be on the list this year. Paul Wheatley - Hurt by injuries but rapidly running out of time, needs to return to his best quick smart. Matthew Whelan - Top player. Jeff White - Getting older. Last contract was one year too many. Still a lot to offer. Yze, see White. We are only two rounds in, while we look terrible, I'm not willing to give up on our list. We are better than we have shown, hopefully we'll prove that soon. Time is running out for many of them, the coach being one.
  22. I'm an unashamed fan of Bell and would also like to see him spend more time in the midfield Graz. We do see to be in the minority of opinion on this one though
  23. I don't blame Bate. He should not have been playing. I blame the weak as water match committee and coach for formenting a weak and unaccountable attitude. The continual reluctance to punish any player who squibs a contest, who puts themselves before the team has shown the younger players that these acts are acceptable. Just like Yze's insipid efforts where he continued to flinch week after week and not be punished (well until this week, a year or two late), Bates effort where he neeed new underpants when he was on the wing against the saints should not have been acceptable. He should have been dragged and given a tongue lashing. Then he should have had a week at Sandy. This did not happen because the coach and his cronies accept weak half arsed efforts and have for too long. This cancer starts at the top and is now infecting younger players, if not rectified now (if not already) it will be too late, another generation of players will be soft. Bate just does what he has learnt. He follows the example set by others and accepted (and defended) by many here.
  24. I posted this on 'ology earlier, think it's relevant here: In the middle of last year and then again late last year I did some threads that showed the statistics of our performance through the year in third quarters and how we lost them a large majority of the games. It was a problem we had and I was highlighting because despite overcoming this weakness it worried me. This year we have been belted in the third quarter both games. One of the commentators today mentioned how the Demons looked completely disinterested when the came out after the long break last year. I want to know what is happening with the coach that he can't rev up his players at half time. Is his message going so stale that the more time the players spend with him the worse they get? A harsh call, but the reason I did the analysis last year, was that despite winning more ofen than not, this really worried me. Can someone offer any explanations as to why we have been consistently losing third quarters for over a year other than the coaches message isn't getting through (either that or the message is wrong)?
  25. Hey being young means you're not a stubborn old fool (or stubborn fool in my case) on your views about footy. My point then and now is how lucky we are with both sites, I value them both and a generalization such as mine was meant as a bit of fun. I understand those that jump in with criticism the first chance they get, but you can count those posters on one hand and rather than get upset, realise it's a massive minority who should be ignored on this issue. BTW I think the Jeckyl and Hyde Demons will show their alter ego and smash the Hawks this week. 8 goals to us.
