And the discussion of the game rolls along....
-
Are you sure about this quote, Demonland?
"Are you Mark Jamar is back to his best. He is jumping off the ground again, unlike last year, and gave Spencer an absolute bath in the ruck. Sadly, Spencer still is not concentrating on the ball, despite his enormous height advantage, and apart from a good single mark, he did not touch the ball in general play or at ruck contests. By that I mean he did not touch the ball …"
I am not sure if you were watching the same game as me but Jamar was nowhere near his best, and in front of me was beaten three times in the air by Spencer in one-on-one ruck contests. Also, Jamar did nothing around the ground where Spencer at least ran forward, gave 2nd and 3rd attempts, went for marks and presented.
I can remember watching Pencils awkward kicking style at least 3 times, but reckon there were a few more.
Big Max was there.
Taggert a lovely goal was about 30 meters, was sitting just near man on mark.
Baffled that we would lock a thread with 5 or 6 thorough match reports to send everyone to a thread with one. Seriously...

1. Hogan - star in the making, clean up his kicking a touch and he could be anything. Next years rising star winner.
2. Jones - good performance, didn't dominate but was good.
4. Watts - sublime skills, along with Strauss we will have 2 punishing rebounding defenders
5. Toumpas - lot of his work was on other side of ground from me, but looked good
7. Viney - dominated second quarter, overall one of the games best
8. Frawley - some signs he may be up for a big year.
10. Byrnes - awesome display, best on ground in the first half, kids have their work cut out if they want to take his spot in the team.
12. Sylvia - pretty quiet game IMO, expected more
13. Jordie -worked his butt off, but kicking needs to improve
14. Dunn- some good signs, also some signs of why I sometimes call him Dumm.
15. Rodan- great first half, bit quieter in second
17. Blease - see above
19. Strauss - this kid may surprise many this year
20. Garland - belted Davey
21. Pedo - did some good things, overall positive but was disappointed at inability to impact on a couple of contests
23. Tynan - hardly noticed him, think he was on Byrnes early and was hobbling a bit after game
25 TMac - can see him having a real crack at the bluey this year
26. Nicho - kicking was actually alright, but didn't notice him enough
27. Gillies - not a bad game, guarantees there will be some fierce competition in back 6
31 Frank - didn't have a big influence
32 Evans - put in but see Frank
33. Barry, took his time getting into game, looked good the few times he did
34 Kent - put in, needs to be cleaner, but liked what I saw
35 Tappy - was hoping for more from him, but looked OK
36 Davey - disappointed with his input, needs to improve to avoid being Caseys highest payed player
39 Jetta, did some nice things, am expecting a good year from Nev
40. Jamar - in danger of being remembered as a one year wonder
41. Davis - didn't spray most of his kicks, which I found positive
42 Pencil - if only he could kick!
43 Taggert- goes hard this kid, slotted a nice set shot goal from decent angle
45 Jones - like this kid, expecting some time in firsts this year.
46 Terlich- saw him do some nice things, but didn't notice much
48. Fitzy - struggled to have an impact, as did most forwards for the whites due limited supplies, had one nice pack mark but was hoping for more.
Overall I was disappointed with our kicking, but is their first hit out, but without improving this facet of the game, the 9-10 wins I am hoping for will be a struggle.

I'ld like to know how they get the old Olympic Park all to themselves redeveloped with government money and we get gosch's paddock as their cast off. Some form of nepatism from the Brumby Governement?
Actually, it would be ours but declined the offer some year ago if I recall correctly

To be fair to magner, after playing well in the guts for a few weeks he was moved to an unfamiliar playing role as a defensive forward. I don't think he lacked for effort or burned out
James is on record as saying he burned out, that by mid season his body was shot.

And less AFL games than Magner too. Come on BH, you're so negative lately, even your compliments are backhanded. Chin up mate!
So you can read, comprehension a bit too much?

Nice little article on Matt Jones. Whats everones thoughts, is he a chance to play this year? how has he been on the training track.
Had been mixing him up with Terlich initially at training and had been singing Deans praises, when should have been praising Matt.
Very impressed with what I have seen and see him playing more than a couple of games this year

Fair enough. I value loyalty highly though too.
Former Swans player doesn't, showed it 30 odd years ago

He's just calling as he sees it. It's a trait i find particularly appealing.
I can remove my emotional investment to appreciate his position.
Understand where you are coming from and agree. Healy also talks openly how at least 4 others tanked in his mind.
Where as Caro, her lack of bringing other clubs into the conversation is a disgrace, as far as I know she has completely ignored Wallets comments that he did nothing from the box to stop a defeat, a clear cut admission of tanking IMO, but as its her beloved Richmond, we hear donuts

Perfect day to announce that there will be no charges, mix the news in with the drug summit occurring

Didn't know that, won't be bringing it up againTo be fair to the desk - that was 15 years ago.
)
Ed. though it does increase my distrust of Schwab

No need to worry about sponsors, we're doing fine financially. Hell, we can afford $80k on a desk, we're doing fine...

A bit like guys who spend their time writing training reports
Well up yours too...

Tommy Mac & Nath Jones to get AA this year. Calling it early. Mark that down.
Fair call, add to the Tom to win his first Bluey

Is their some pissing competition going on here ?Whats the problem?
Just a few childish posters.
TGR on 'ology loves slagging this place off, some here return the favour.
After TGR, there was another prolific poster there that used to slag 'land and its posters off regularly.
After a few years of putting this place and its posters down, he doesn't post on 'ology anymore, restricting his posts to 'land.

So now would be even more time to believe the MFC website.
Interesting to see he (BH) hasn't posted on this thread since this was apparently changed on the MFC site.
Are you for real?
He's gone off what the Melbourne website says, they have changed what they say, do you think he will continue to go off what the website says, or stick to 78kg.
One of the worst attempts to flame I have ever seen, reckon he might be one of many to have blocked you....

Have always found the gloves to be against the spirit of the game.
The fact that it has taken so long to test these gloves is an indictment on the AFL.

Not sure if it's been mentioned yet, tried to earlier but was having problems with the site, but Colin Sylvia joined in with regular training today, first time that's happened in the few sessions Ihave been too. Looks to be moving well
-
Gladly post on both, am glad we have two.
Different opinions and personalities on both, separating them is a bonus as long term bickering would destroy the one site, at least having 2 sites dilutes this again.
'Ology used to be a fantastic forum, has gone backwards in the last few years due to new members not being able to join, but hopefully, thanks to the great work of a few, it will grow again and have some of the knowledgable conversations that they have had in the past.
As for the rivalry, it says more about the posters that encourage it and put down the other site than it does the sites.

Got down to see a short session today. Good crowd to start with, reckon quite a few came and watched the first hour before moving onto the tennis.
On arrival, at 9.30, Spencer and Jordie McTackle were already leaving.
Jamar, Davey and Hulk only had a short appearance walking laps (ditto Frank Grimes and one of the new kids). At on stage Hogan picked up the ball and slotted a drop punt from an impossible angle, very impressed!
Didn't see Viney, Toumpas, Captain Jack and a few others.
After warm up drills and close in hand pass drills, we went into some end to end work. Had an AFL field and boundary ump there, they don't get any less annoying at training.
Used the corridor quite a bit here, though also had a lot of diddly little sideways passes in last line of defence till they chose a better option - fine when it works, not when it doesn't, as seen by Dunn spilling a sitter in the goal square. Usual suspects frustrated with their kicking. Tommy Mac continues to impress me, though constantly needs to improve his kicking, which is better than it was.
Blease and Tappscott initially lined up with the forwards. One of the drills kept seeing one or two forwards grab a defenders vest and switch sides. They used the boundary at times, but didn't hesitate to go up the guts when the opportunity arose.
One exercise had 3 teams, constantly rotating one off for a short break, another involved simulating a free deep in defence and having to break quickly to clear it.
Last exercise, after many had left, involved end to end stuff with little to no pressure.
Overall, looking good but let's not get too carried away, saw a bit of the filth's training after ours and we have quite a bit of work still to do.
Bail, doing laps early

For those that have been regulars at training, are we starting to use the whole ground in end to end drills or are we still looking to hugging the boundary?
Last week, they had cones either side of the ground, effectively marking the corridor and we were doing drills down the ground remaining in the corridor

Of course others consider us a joke.
I'm one eyed and passionate, but feel guilty for brainwashing my daughter to be a Demon. We've been a terribly ran club for most of, if not all of, the last 50 years. The last 17 years, we have been a joke, lurching from one internal disaster to another while putting out teams that were generally soft downhill skiers.
Who gives a rats clacker what others think, the reality is their perception isn't too far from the truth. If we want to change what they (and many of our supporters think) we need to pull our heads out of our backsides and get our act together
-
Neeld was not at training last week and apparently this week as well. Does anybody know why?
Was there Wednesday
-
Pedersen may not be the greatest trainer known to man, but you'll like the role he plays at AFL level.
Good to hear, haven't sent him at AFL.
WW, also though Couch was very good in match play, like Nicho, just their disposal that's the big worry.
Illicit Drugs and AFL Players
in Melbourne Demons
Posted
I work in an industry where we are subject to random drug tests whenever we go to work.
One strike and you are out. Fair enough IMO, if you want to work in the field you must be clean and BAC of 0.0%.
Granted, the players don't have all of their customers lives in their hands, but at the same time, we don't get paid hundreds of thousands of dollars a year (well very, very few do). If the players want AFL careers, they should be clean. Supporters have a right to expect that they are, just like my customers have every right to expect me to be free from both drugs and alcohol.
