  1. My information is that we rated Cotchin as the standout and had Morton at two, Kruezer at four or five and Masten at seven or eight. We rated Grimes very highly and if Cotchin, Morton, and Kreuzer or the other guy I can't remember had gone by pick four, we would have very likely chosen Grimes. The slows on him regarding his injuries, stress fractures in his back, scared of a lot of other clubs ans he was still there at 14. We then got Maric at 21?, some one else that we rated very highly. That was why a lot of good judges were saying after the draft that Melbourne was the club that had done by far the best out of the draft. Time will tell, but things are looking good.
  2. I agree that when Bell has a target he kicks to it, more often than not hitting the target. I also agree that the midfielders/forwards are at fault for not presenting a target. The problem is that when the target is not there, standing on the spot like a stunned mullet is not the answer; he should swivel, and pass laterallly or back so that the situation can be re-evaluated and a switch considered. This would also give him the added field of view of what was behind him. Whatever, just keep moving; if all else fails - kick it to the boundary side of an upfield contest.
  3. His basic problem is that he does not appear to be able to walk and chew gum at the same time. Too often he gets the ball then breaks into space and stops, looking for a target upfield. When this target does not materialise, he just stands there like a stunned mullet and is invariably caught cold.
  4. Without over analysing, and looking through rose-coloured glasses, I would imagine that the clubs are not wanting to get their announcements caught up with, and overshadowed by, all of the hoopla surrounding the Grand Final; look for an announcement in a week or so.
  5. A part of me is hoping that we draft Steele Sidebottom; what a name for a footballer!
  6. I for one hope that VCAT get all they deserve over this. I understand that the council did not approve the development and that VCAT overrode them, as VCAT is want to do. I have been involved in a VCAT dispute, which the developer won. I don't know of too many that the developer has lost. The legal counsel from the council told us, informally, before the hearing started that we didn't have a chance, and boy was she right. Three days of enduring the supercillios attitude of the "judge" did not improve matters.
  7. Technically he is still our player, as are Yze, Holland, Neitz, Bode and Weetra. Sydney will have to give us something for a trade, as stipulated in the AFL rules. As all parties know that White will be delisted, it will be a draft pick in the 90 range that we would not use.
  8. Whilst I would have liked to get Warnock, it is not the end of the world if we don't. Spencer has come along in leaps and bounds and the club is very impressed with him. He is only 20 next year, I think, and has a tremendous upside. Jamar will finally convince all next year that he is a VFL ruckman, not an AFL one; Spencer to get a couple of games next year before getting a full gig in 2010.
  9. Despite all the hype regarding Palmer I would still take Morton.
  10. He's put on 10kg; man alive, he must have been an absolute stick-figure beforehand.
  11. PJ is not a bona fide tap ruckman, nor is Jamar although he is better at being one. PJ is a top notch 2nd ruckman in that he can fill in in the ruck and provide options around the ground with his size and ball skills. Therefore PJ has much better trade value than Jamar. Despite that, I would not like to see him traded. Jamar has little trade value and I don't think he will be traded. I would expect them both to be at the club next year with PJ being the first-choice second ruck to, hopefully, R Warnock. Jamar will be backup at Casey where, again hopefully, Spencer will overtake him.
  12. I have never previously voted in this award. After today's woeful display, why would I bother ... As I walked from the MCG today, I came to the realisation that something I did not want to contemplate was gnawing at me. Warnock was our best player! I could never in a million years see this happening. What this means for the MFC, I don't even want to think about. Warnock 6 Sylvia 5 Whealan 4 Buckley 3 Green 2 Garland 1
  13. 16
  14. Hassa Mann, Robbie Flower, Rod Grinter, Allen Jakovitch, Todd Viney; Cale Morton is growing on me.
  15. Depending on the weather, I may slip down for one last trip to TBO.
  16. Just go out and come back in with your other ticket; nobody will bat an eyelid.
  17. This is a beat up of mammoth proportions. The AFL has said, quite reasonably, that we will not be getting extra financial assistance if we are demonstrating that we are paying over the minimum. This is then followed by a complete and utter [censored] about how we are going to struggle to achieve the cuts. 92.5% of 8.5M is 7.8625M; difference 0.6375M or $6,375,000. Injury payments this year are approximately $300,000, the second year in a row that they have been very high. We should expect a decrease in this payment once we remove a few 30 somethings, but we should budget for a sum of some proportion next year; difficult to quantify. TJ $200,000 - done; Neitz $300,000 in salary cap - done Yze $200,000 in salary cap - done The complicated rules regarding veterans can be explain by some learned poster; I think it is 1/2 for the first, 1/3 for the second ... Holland, Weetra and anybody else you want to mention, not even covered yet and we are already under the minimum; we will have to start giving players payrises to meet the AFL's demands.
  18. Southern Stand M14, me, my two kids and my son's girlfriend
  19. There is no way that I want Didak at my club. I don't care about his football ability; I do care about his ability to undermine the integrity of his football club.
  20. Funnily enough, I can see wheels within wheels here. The MCG and the MCC and the MCC affiliated clubs are fully deserving of National Trust listing. Those of us here would argue that the MFC is also worthy. I doubt that the National Trust would like to be seen to do anything that could be regarded as parochial and list MFC seperately, but if we were back under the umbrella of the MCC, the National Trust wouldn't have the problem of a seperate listing.
  21. A lot of clubs try and do the right thing and keep players who do not want to be traded. Ferguson could still have been packed off to Hawthorn, if Hawthorn were prepared to take some one who didn't want to go. I think you will fin that Hawthorn nixed the deal. Sorry for mentioning it, but wasn't Woey desperate to stay at Melbourne?
  22. Players cannot be traded without their approval within the first year of a contract.
  23. I noticed that CJ did this a few times last week A couple of times it was to Sylvia who had the back position and the best opportunity to mark. As Sylvia was having a dog of a day. he didn't mark it, but he did at least contest and brought the ball to ground. The next stoppage was then outside of our defensive 50; not a bad result.
  24. He was a bit rusty at the weekend and probably not 100% fit. Better for the run, as they say.
  25. Difficult to tell; Hale had to be 10M? from the top of the square when Buckley kicked it to himself. As the poor attemnpt at evasion was a metre or two outside the square, I think he was probably the required distance.
