  1. That's assuming he gets the free upgraded rookie spot at the start of the season. The order at the moment is Jamar, Spencer, (upgrade Campbell if both are injured), then... Gawn, Fitz.
  2. I was just thinking, is it possible that as a leader, and as an experienced ruckman who knows what it takes, it may have been a move to enhance the learning curve of the youngsters coming through? I think PJ would likely have been ok to retain despite his form drop in the last 2 years, but it's a sad fact that as a mentor and leader he offered nothing. The likelihood is that, if injury doesn't strike, Neither PJ or Campbell would ever play much, as they'd stick with the other names... So it may actually end up a situation where we actually get something from him, despite him not playing any games.
  3. Yeah, I think I got in on it at around 2004... Which was the start of a 3 year finals run. Good times... And I'm looking forward to more. It's definitely a fun place to be when you're winning! I was just thinking that... Probably, and I think we'd JUST gotten past the Woey thing. Apparently that created a LOT of controversy here in the old 'land. Glad I missed it.
  4. OH! I FINALLY figured out what that stands for... Jeez...
  5. Neither game is that interesting tactically. It's like comparing the size of an apple and orange, while there's a pumpkin sitting next to them with a big "NFL" sticker on it.
  6. It's one of the main reasons I come here. I don't know about everyone else but the tentative state of the club and it's future actually keeps me up at night. And yet these know-it-alls actually actively picked on 'land for encouraging the very thing the club needs. In their infinite wisdom. I reckon you have a finite amount of energy for these meaningless head-against-a-brick-wall arguments. Y_M wiped out 90% of my energy for this, and RR took care of the rest. God help us if this happens. EXACTLY. I was one of those young (ish) posters. I think I joined when I was about 24... I was as disenfranchised with the club as anyone, having only learned what I'd learned about MFC from the TV. D'land helped me out heaps. My support and love of the club has increased tenfold, and all of that is due to the community element that I didn't even know existed. Add to that the club website is pretty useless. Especially for those of us who live overseas and interstate. I'm really not making things up when I say I NEED demonland, and 'ology just never got close to filling that void.

I must be new to this game. When does he ever make the wrong decision anymore? He's thrown 2 picks through about 10 games! And given the modest offensive line, they're standing up wonderfully. In all but the last two games Vick has had an eternity to make his decisions. Only Cutler at the Bears shadowed him, and he'll never play a game like that again. At least not this year. I'm willing to concede easily here as I'm new to it... We just got cable in the place I'm staying, and I'll be there throughout the first half of playoffs. Oh... and I'm going to Miami vs Cleveland tomorrow!!! My first NFL game!!! SHould I wear my Vick jersey? :D Yeah. The bears game showed the Eagles big weakness. A strong complete defence will get him. And yet, we beat them, and beat them well. :D. If he doesn't get retained at Philly, the town will implode. That's the superbowl winner right there. Best performed this season. I'm picking the Eagles at this stage to get there.... but it could be the Falcons, Packers easily... and watching the Bears last weekend? They worry me too.
  8. Get a Mac. :D
  9. I don't care what the round ball lovers here will say. I'm pumped that we missed it... Why? The last world cup was torture. The only games that were bearable were the US ones... the rest of it was appalling to watch IMO. In its current state, it's an awful, awful game to watch.
  10. How can this be the first time I've seen this thread? Wow... Coming up to 3 years old.
  11. Oh man. That kid hasn't hit puberty yet, surely. We ARE getting very ridiculous with our recruiting these days. Oh for the NFL system where you don't get a player before 21, and when you do, you know THAT much more about them.
  12. Of course it is. And yeah, fair point... I think you'll find there's one poster who continually refers to 'land as "Strawberry Fields." Which, for those of us who get the reference, is an insult to the intelligence and knowledge of posters here. I've proudly been in the top 10 for total posts (and let's be honest, some of the were novels), so I'll take that as an affront... albeit a pissweak internet forum affront. You make a good point though. The rest of them are good about 'land, and as the thread suggests, it seems they like the functionality, ease of use, reliability, the overall look and spacing of posts once you get used to it. From memory 'land was recently ranked in the top 10 for best footy sites, and for good reason. For all my problems and fights with the mods, when you compare it to bigfooty, they do a bang up job. The carry on that happened over at 'ology 6 months ago or so would never have escalated that far here.
  13. The best footy-related invention since demonland. That's all you need to know. Having played in Jackattack's league last year, and knowing how much better UF is than DT, I fully expect this to take off and become the premier fantasy football format as of 5 years from now... at least among the larger leagues, and groups of friends. The trading and drafting along with the categories/scoring are what set it apart. Along these lines, I reckon what would be REALLY good is if someone (with a WHOLE lot of time on their hands) could set up a room/page for UF (along with DT if we must) for everyone to smacktalk there...
  14. Yeah. 'Ologists are defecting left right and centre... and all the while the old farts that are still there whinge about demonland being too "positive." Hardly surprising. Looks like we got the best talent from there now anyway. All that's left are the lonely old men who want to be kings of that very small universe. Demonland's getting stronger and stronger. Long live WJ!!!
  15. Ta for the inclusion Jackattack. Seriously. We did this contest last year, and it made games that much more interesting... It craps all over the other fantasy games, in any other sport too. So much rivalry, and the week is never over til it's over. Great comp.
  16. I was thinking about this the other day. When you look at it though, it's a problem EVERY big club has had (except Collingwood, since they have all the money) just before or during a strong period in their history. At least in recent years. Hawthorn offloaded Hay and Rawlings... Geelong Moloney (which still hurts a lot of cats fans, I'm told) and Prismall... You could argue Essendon let Heffernan go when they wanted to keep him. You're right when you say it's a good problem to have. It's almost akin to a problem you absolutely HAVE to have, if you're serious about growing a proper flag list. It's that whole phase two, where you HAVE the long list of tasty players and picks, and you have to make sure you get rid of the 23 yr olds who aren't premiership players (but that are respected 200 gamers anyway) in place of things you need. These next two years will teach us a lot, though with GWS coming in and having two years to pick who they want from our list, will be probably the HARDEST period for the next ten years. In fact... our recruiter's/list managers are going to earn our next flag over the next 18 months as they lock down the Watts/Frawley/Trengove/Scully/Grimes types. They won't get it for a few years yet, but they'll sure as hell earn it. Hopefully.
  17. Get used to about half our list being spoken about by any club with cash, room on their list and desperation. This is what happens when your list improves. The sharks come-a-hunting. The trick is to try and make sure you get rid of your Headlands, Rawlings, Prismalls and Hays before the real quality. It's times like these that remind me why you always go for best available. If you have a surplus in one area, you offload the lesser of the players, get a pick/need from another club, and you only get stronger through trades.

I wouldn't say Atlanta look more dangerous than Philly at all. Nor would the media I'd say. After all, we did beat them handily. Likewise, the AFC may be stronger, but only cos of the depth... and because they desperately need to do something about the NFC West which is dragging the whole League down. The cream rises to the top though, and I'd say the Eagles are a top 4 side at the moment, and have no reason to fear ANY side, especially given they just beat (what was at the time) the best defence in the NFL by ten points, even dropping 2 touchdowns and one interception... What's more, I think there is no offence more feared (or that makes a defensive co-ordinator wet his Breeches more) than that of Michael Vick. He just does TOO much. And even though the Giants worked him out, what did it get them? Beaten by ten. That's no tactic to beat Vick the [censored]. All you can hope is to limit him to 4 TDs. And that's enough to win against any team going round at the moment. And if all THAT isn't enough, even if you smash Vick in his nuts with a sledgehammer, Kolb is right there to throw for 300... Your prediction? I think you might have something there. The Saints are just warming up, and we know all too well what they can do. Also, there's no telling how much longer Vick can play like this without being decapitated. Their starting WRs, RBs, and CBs are among the league's best, but backups? The cupboard is pretty bare. Just like with ANY football, the team's fitness will decide how far they can go. All in all? Philly have as good a shot at winning a superbowl this year as any team going round. That's not saying much as there's a whole BUNCH of teams that are up there, but it's still an important factor. Texans? Shame. They looked ok there for a bit. Beat some handy teams early this year. But that Sanchez TD hurt. Great game to watch, but ouch.
  19. Simple. Concise. To the point. Effective.
  20. This is going to be such a huge year. In year's gone by we'd be praying for HUGE improvement from about 6 guys, of which one or two would get better, and 3 would drop off, with maybe one big surprise. As it is, only 3 or 4 players on the list you would say don't have any improvement left in them. I couldn't see Jamar, Frawley or Green playing any better than they did... The list is going to have a massive upswing either this year or next... And I'm picking this year.

The big bad birds keep on keeping on!!!
  22. That's not bad thinking E25. But look a little further, I reckon it depends on where Viney is rated. Let's say we end up something like 8th next season. We'd end up with a pick in the late teens as our first... Getting a kid that's rated in the top 5 or 10 in place of a pick around the late teens is still a steal. Also, when you consider what we'd have to give up to GET a a kid rated in the top ten... it'd have to be a good/great player with some years left, plus probably a pick somewhere, it may end up working out against us. Interesting post though. Clearly you have too much time on your hands. :D
  23. Thanks for that. Yeah. A Mac thing...
  24. Jeez. Looking at this thread, BP is wreaking havoc on demonland with his selections. The only ones everyone ever got right are Watts, Scully and Trengove...
  25. Yeah, I feel that too just a bit, but what's the alternative? Finish lower on the ladder to get earlier picks? This is how it works for every team that makes finals every year and has to watch everything they want go in the first 10 picks. I think we missed out on the ones we wanted by the slightest of margins... but that's how it goes I guess. Have you changed your mind on Cook? You weren't glowing at first... but now I notice you're happy?
