I don't think it's doom and gloom at all. Yes weve played been unsettled down there. Were a bit unsettled everyw currently. To md the defence is close...but not quite there. For want of a bettet description lets call the missing man FB. We just dont have for mine a aviable one. Tom when supported plays the Half Back ok. Still has some issue but with Hibberd Hunt and Frost he's better. Jetta plays the Jetta role. Oscar and Frost for mine are the sharers of that role. The FB role i think is unfilled. Fill it.. we're a serious wall. -
Oscar may or may not develop into a decent defender. Thats years off at best... currently he's just not that good and in deep defence is often the weakest link. That just is....it might be different in later 2018/2019 How many games do ppl want to lose ? Not because of Oscar but because we're playing underdeveloped types in various positions . Let them develop and FORCE their way in. Lets improve the list ,lets better our bottom ganeday 6. Lets plug gaps with quality rtr.

Have no problem looking elsewhere. If anything our track record suggests we wont go shopping in main st, not unless someone drops by for a coffee. We have a sort of missing man/ missing link to our preferred setup. something like Hibberd Tmac Hunt Jetta PosVac. Frost Get the right bloke that becomes a lot more than servicable. Im not that fussed...as long as whoever it is can hold down that role.

I think there are many that appreciate May and Lever types are BETTER defenders. Our defence needs to get better if we're to compete at top 4 level.

May IS a good player..a normally very capable FB. Interesting game though yesterday. I still lean more towards Lever.

Yep... Seen nothing in his game awareness to suggest to me hes a fullback. Tom isn't one either in my book. Tom has a much better awareness and ability to cover some forwards though. He HAS some nouse...just 'odd disposal algorithms' Again if you're to have say three tall defenders Omac might be one...but a Fullback. Nuh.

Forget age...its footy nouse. Itll be 2-3 years before he approached " really useful" at best We still need a big decent fullback now. Oscar will NEVER be that player, though he and Frost might share a role in future...maybe.

Another 20 games and preseason in Frost ought to see him really starting to solidify his game. I just haven't seen the same progressive curve in Oscar. Midfields help the pressure on backs but really doesn't alleviate the need for proper Full Back... nothing does.

Dd, I'd certainly agree all won't/can't be fixed in one off season. I want to try to get the best available into each of our holes. If fit , our list has ,if not perfect a usuable fwd line, a midfield that's getting better ( but yes can use augmenting ) but its that key FB position that needs fixing. Priority 1

I was considering any decent taller fwd for which we don't currently have a decent foil. Not all of a fwd line will be 2m, just not that many decent ones around but there are a handful of big fwds of various styles that we cant presently counter. Lever/May types would be a major improvement.

Neither Frost nor Oscar are gorilla minding generals of the back. That the player we NEED , to stop us haemorrhaging goals down there. I'd be more than happy to have May/Lever ,tMac, Hibberd, Jetta, Frost, Hunt as a backline

Draft picks intrigue me. For all the hullabaloo they often are far less valuable than given. Now that the fwd picks can be 'marketed' a new dimension is created but imho the underlying and only true value of any pick is what you as a club gain from it. The focus needs to be on the list, and the type of player, if none specificly ( player) in mind. What is your need ? A lot of discussion goes into this kid or that or the depth we need etc etc. The reality is neither of those qualities or metrics affect a game. What does are those ready ,capable and suitable on the day. So , if we have a need now, especially an urgent KPP type hole on the team sheet , youd be foolish not to spend the required and available currency ( picks) to get him. Bird in the hand stuff.There are many avenues to get players , either the project types or kinds naturally need longer development time but the ready to go gems need pouncing on. I would say historically the so called golden early picks often go bust ad much as they prove worthy. They are a risk (high) and are proof that all that glitters is not gold. Im all for spending picks on a known entity, esp when it fills a bloody big hole. One that causes us losses. A no brainer for me. Other players will come along , just like the next bus or train. MELBOURNE...get a bloody Full Back !!

im not sure who the player will be...as it comes down to desirability mixed with availability but I do hope we are looking around with great endeavour . Its a BIG hole back there !!
