  1. Another 20 games and preseason in Frost ought to see him really starting to solidify his game. I just haven't seen the same progressive curve in Oscar. Midfields help the pressure on backs but really doesn't alleviate the need for proper Full Back... nothing does.
  2. Dd, I'd certainly agree all won't/can't be fixed in one off season. I want to try to get the best available into each of our holes. If fit , our list has ,if not perfect a usuable fwd line, a midfield that's getting better ( but yes can use augmenting ) but its that key FB position that needs fixing. Priority 1
  3. what season is that ?....our Winter......of......
  4. I was considering any decent taller fwd for which we don't currently have a decent foil. Not all of a fwd line will be 2m, just not that many decent ones around but there are a handful of big fwds of various styles that we cant presently counter. Lever/May types would be a major improvement.
  5. We may have better Leverage elsewhere
  6. Neither Frost nor Oscar are gorilla minding generals of the back. That the player we NEED , to stop us haemorrhaging goals down there. I'd be more than happy to have May/Lever ,tMac, Hibberd, Jetta, Frost, Hunt as a backline
  7. Draft picks intrigue me. For all the hullabaloo they often are far less valuable than given. Now that the fwd picks can be 'marketed' a new dimension is created but imho the underlying and only true value of any pick is what you as a club gain from it. The focus needs to be on the list, and the type of player, if none specificly ( player) in mind. What is your need ? A lot of discussion goes into this kid or that or the depth we need etc etc. The reality is neither of those qualities or metrics affect a game. What does are those ready ,capable and suitable on the day. So , if we have a need now, especially an urgent KPP type hole on the team sheet , youd be foolish not to spend the required and available currency ( picks) to get him. Bird in the hand stuff. There are many avenues to get players , either the project types or kinds naturally need longer development time but the ready to go gems need pouncing on. I would say historically the so called golden early picks often go bust ad much as they prove worthy. They are a risk (high) and are proof that all that glitters is not gold. Im all for spending picks on a known entity, esp when it fills a bloody big hole. One that causes us losses. A no brainer for me. Other players will come along , just like the next bus or train. MELBOURNE...get a bloody Full Back !!
  8. Planning to start ..... Not " will sit down and..." But..... planning to start .. Sounds like me when talking with wife about landscaping the backyard.. Yes darling... I'm planning to start that..... Hmmm?
  9. im not sure who the player will be...as it comes down to desirability mixed with availability but I do hope we are looking around with great endeavour . Its a BIG hole back there !!
  10. who at melbourne is a better full back ?
  11. No.... that's just you ....on your second bottle
  12. God help us if we are 'needing' Oscar to do so. Fine if he does, but geebus what nutjob of a club doesn't look beyond.
  13. Whilst i still think Lever an EASIER get and less expensive what of May ? At 26 , a perfect age to come in. Ready to go, Should have 5-6 seasons in him and instantly fixes a problem, not maybe . Oscar if still around becomes depth and a student in waiting getting the odd game through list rotation and/or injuries... As it ought to be. Don't like our chances but obviously something behind the scenes prompting rumours. Our list still short of 'fixed'
  14. Happy to take May. Can't see us getting him without selling the farm. Lever , i think might be more gettable ( realistically ) and might slot in and develop into that Gorilla minder we need.
  15. Have we enough Shekels or script to land May and Lever ? Id rather lever personally.
  16. It's not per se. Its about May, but to get you will have to give. So what/who do we give ? This then triggers the q about players on our list and worth in trade .
  17. Don't think .... Do !!
  18. Well we can now wash ourselves of that silly game of football for the year. Was intruding on the serious pursuits; crosswords jigsaws and truffle hunting. Word from brethren north is the yellow cropping not as harshly affected by nasty weather as possibly might have been but dont expect cheap fruit. Might buy and freeze...one needs a supply for daiquiris
  19. Paddy isn't just a case of being that bigger bloke... therefore....etc etc. He appears lumbering at times and not up to game speed. ( As others suggest not ideally physiqued ) Weed by comparison is too gangly atm often in wrong spot but at times quite with it and of a pace. Paddy might come good...might. Atm appears more a might than a should. Not quite what they were hoping for id suspect.
  20. Tend to agree VP All indicators do suggest Paddy veering dangerously closer to a bust than a keeper. Even in early days you often glimpse the potential. Even our Weed has shown a bit to suggest in a year or two he might well be that something. Paddy looks a right plodder by comparison. Truck has his covered ...in spades.
