Alan Richardson
It's not about having any claim to fame on the G...nor having won a bit of silverware. It's really about having a footy brain and a normal brain that knows when to do what. I for one wouldnt judge anyone per se just because of a StKilda association. There is no stranger fish than the StKFC. But he seems a reasoned and experienced football mind that seems capable of bending like a tree. We've got to many rock -types currently. Hell...he has our lot sussed.

Reckon youve nailed it. Unsure whether other powers that be would facilitate.

A problem with Jack is not actually of his own doing but that of the imagined style of our contested footy. A warrior/terrier like Jack was in the minds of some most suitable for a role in our Gladiator Game. This was more concerned apparently about getting the ball than actually doing anything profitable with it. In this Jack was sublime. See ball ....get ball.....it was that next bit He might still have a role as an inside mid at times. We do need them, it's just that there's currently no balance with outside run. Is that Jack's fault ? Not in my mind.

Going to be fascinating to see what mercurial spells he can cast over our lot.

Remember me Your glib response requires more clarity surely. We all know at any given time there are managed injuries out there. The point surely is that some natures of injury are far more susceptible to becoming much worse than others. We've all seen surely the catastrophe that Foot problems can become if poorly managed. It actually concerns me that Viney may never fulfil his potential because of recurrences. That would be a shame. I rate him highly as a player, no so much as a captain. But as Kent suggests...some players just ought not be played ...sometimes.

Not sure how you trade the son of a fixture riveted to the wall of the back enclave. Good luck there

Are we tanking?
All things equal doesn't the notion of tanking suggest deliberately playing in such a fashion as to be detrimental to winning. Therefore to be tanking you would , I presume be in a position to win but choose not too. In that case half our games could come under scrutiny for that alone. Or..wed have to have exhibited a winning capability but setup/play in a manner counter to this. How can we tank when we dont know how to win ?

Craig Jennings Gone at Seasons End
Might he be referencing the off season fun and games circus also ? ( or not ..lol )

Roos: Lazy Dees
Well I suspect in the immediate short term this this happen anyway. As others also might be, I'm thinking Richardson could be ok in this role. A concern for mine goes to the preparedness of Simon to swallow a bit of pride and really start listening to people. I say this as like him or not I suspect Macca wasnt getting his primary concerns across sufficiently. He leaves/left Jennings seems to have been a lame duck and by all accounts is/was a very capable reader of the game. Again I have to conclude he wasn't being "heard" , he leaves/left. Rusty I can only hope things change for the better, and in the end I could care less whether it's Goodwin or anyone else bringing joy to the club. I would like to think that's not a one way iron clad contract in favour of Goodwin. If it is.. Pert should [censored] off and pay out Simon's residual out of his own pocket for sheer incompetence. Hypothetically should we still be on the mat, against the ropes, gasping for air or any other metaphor of choice then I don;t think it would take those 2 years. The likes of Shaw, Teague, Ratten etc show it might not be the players...just the map and instructions given them. I for one don't think this list is anywhere nearly as bad as we play

Roos: Lazy Dees
Reckon we'll know a LOT sooner than that. It just might take until QB for our Brains (sic ) Trust to do anything

Its the captain stupid
Im not generally in favour of players voting for a captain. Becomes a weird popularity/logies fiasco. That said the recent appointment from above have all been shizen. Melbourne probably doesn't need a captain anyway. We've been coasting along fine without leadership for years now.

Craig Jennings Gone at Seasons End
Roos, im told, gave Goody quite some largesse to appoint 'his' crew. He would have afforded anyone that ability. Had it been Dew they both knew who that crew would have been. That never transpired obviously and the rest is history . I think Simons season of appointments have come to a close As to Jennings not getting on with Macca...he would have a few mates there .

Its the captain stupid
Gawn strikes me as a nominee. That said it might be a burden too much. He's obviously very fed up and frustrated. Would bridling him with the captaincy skew his focus ? He obviously tries to lead but would having him have to lead distract. We're a bloody basketcase of a club really. Half a list thats useless..and a whole box of incapables.
-
Craig Jennings Gone at Seasons End
Hmm Jennings...known league wide as an A grade strategist. Was considered a coup getting him. Joins a Goodwin/Macca box Sits there..hardly any bro on bro action. EVER !! We play as though we have NO strategy. Strategist leaves. Dot...dot dot.....dot dot dot !!!

Ill add in another factor...the lingering Roos effect. As we get further away from any influence of Roos and now either it's worn off or been systematically disassembled then the team plays more and more according to the Goodwin doctrine. Before you might possibly respond with...but oh what about the tail end of last year...ill again speak of my analogy to a nitro infused engine. Hit the red button and you'll take off like a rocket. ..but is inly meant for short bursts...otherwise you cook the engine. This is exactly how we played for a while when we started winning. It was at a frenetic pace (nitro on ) . But as Macca/Goodwin race team knew nothing of tempo etc the team ran....until it couldn’t. ( dodnt turn nitro OFF) Not only couldn't run but in their buggered state were even more susceptible to injuries , hence the abnormally larger number of surgeries etc required. Goodwin burnt the list. Enter 2019 and further removed from any Roos influence together with some freshies then the total Goodwin/Macca game is in effect. Went marvellously didn't it.
