oohh looky looky ....Instructions as to how to BARRACK !! thank god your here....ive been wondering what to do...what Ive been doing wrong.. Lucky...now I know what to do!!! ffs <_< <_<
-
That was quite interesting....not sensationalist, fairly even, had substance without exageration....my god...it was almost journalism. Well it certainly made a change to read something positive. its a bit like the shampoo ad; Melbourne will happen, just not overnight !! And you would have to be either a fool or a dreamer of extraordinary imgaination to think too much was ever going to happen this year. We're probably all a little guilty I suppose at times. There's a long haul ahead....more pain.. more heartache. A successful Melbourne wil probably bear little resemblance to todays starting list. Thats as inevitable as it is a good thing. Sounds like we have the Man for many Seasons !!

Well..if he stands...then we can ask him cant we !! then we'll know.

I must confess I only have gut feeling on this but everything about bubbledome seems so far to be smoke and mirrors. It was supposed to be part of the you beaut ( and I was on banddwagon I admit ) team-Melb...and hasnt that beena roaring success. At the end of the day what really is Bubbledome to us. Its an Office..with some shared facilities.. Gym, recovery etc.. and a walk down the road to a paddock !!. Yes it looks at the G..but its not the G. Its a place to train Casey will give us that during summer and the other ood times we want/need to go elsewhere.. I really cant see a down side to a new MCG...thats Melbourne's Cranbourne Ground !! :D
-
Theres a new team forming in Brads old backyard...might be worth a trip home !!
-
Id be happy to be leading after a quarter....that would be the last one !! :D
-
Last time i looked . Hawthorn wasnt in Waverley.. Stkilda wasnt in Frankston...apparently Collingwood has moved too ...lol For the purposes of the exercise...define Melbourne as being the territory of the MFC ? Id rather they were in Casey than the Gold Coast !!

We'll just have to see who sticks their mitt in the air and we can decide then.

I dont think there is much dount reading between the lines that PG will stand down at next elections. All the signals are there.. I would go as far as to say had there not beenas many changes already happenig that he might have not beenthere this year. I think he has taken the stance to see these changes through and for this stewardship ( possibly at personal harmonious costs ) I thank him. Its often charged of one leader to find their replacement and I think thats exactly what Gardner is doing. Im a little non-plussed to be truthful at the notion of Stynes stepping straight in the role of Chairman. In fact I find it bizzare. Some time on the board would be requisite I would have thought. I would welcome gladly both Jim and garry to such positions.. Election time this year might be very interesting.

I must fess up to the notion that for me its alot handier..more than Junction oval..or trinity I think this is quite the D-Day really. Much is made of Heartland... I ask..where is ours ?? Historically its been hard to pin down to a locale, not in the manner you could with Richmond..or Collingwood ..or others whereby allegiances were born to you dependig on which street to grew up in. It was once THAT parochial . And where was Melbourne's ? Really we were always the odd one out. We were a creation of another club. This in itself was more 'encompassing' than the normal suburban ilk. Out teritory was really in many ways the MCG. Our heartland was that ground and all that came to watch, to admire to bow before the gods of sport. it wasnt liek you could mark the map with lines along Flinders, Batman and Punt roads and describe that ...as Melbourne...no..Melbourne was the MCG. A different beast. Since our excumunication 30-40 years ago we have been a body , without a heart. What pumped red and blue was a phantom, this being the memory of what we were. Should it be anything other than a logical coincidence that success has eluded us ever since we were told the MCG no longer was our own preserve ?? bears thinking doesn't it . Our nomadic existence is to come to an end soon. We will have two homes in a sense. One where we started and one where we are going. Can this work ? I think so. More to the point, it HAS to work!! There may be no more chances after this. Look skyward and see the vultures. Cranbourne is one of a number of areas on the verge of huge growth. Melbourne ( the city, not the team ) is deemed to be home over the next 15-20 years to 1,000,000 new residents. Approx half that to make their new roots in the South East . Many of these may not have any allegiance to a team , let alone AFL. Some will, far more wont. A new generation is moving in. They will have a heartland. They will have roots and memories as they grow. What fool would ignore them where the choice to embrace exists. I note a predominance of red and blue in Casey's strip, surely this is divine guidance. How ironic that heavens open to aid demons !! We all like to identify with things. Invariably our lives are dotted with marks, logos or colours that say who we are. We often choose those identifying embellishments according to what message we wish to display. Some are denoting location, some exclusivity and some might more readily fall into the cast of hope or desire. We need to spread that desire and have new followers join us for they will be the 'us' of the future, if we are to have one. Many will make song of the notion we are abandoning our home. The reality is it abandoned us many years ago. Spiriutally our home is always going to be the hallowed turf of the G. But physically we need to broaden our base and take into our fold all those that would have us. This will augment a win-win relationship over time. And that time starts now.

Here lies the rub.. he's only 'ordinary'..and we need better than that at AFL level. Its not insulting to call x...x if he is only average..or not worthy of a first's spot..and he occasionally gets there by happenstance then to describe him as only capable at a certain level , despite his punching above his weight is not strictly insulting !! It a STATEMENT OF FACT !! Alot of people like Miller.. I dont dislike him.. Im sure very few here...actually dislike him.. Like/ dislike is irrelevent to his deservedness of donning the red and blue. If you sign on the dotted line to collect a handsome divident for potenses at ability then you better be prepared to take a few verbal knocks also. Put simply..If Miller was very very very good...and someone called him only good...that might be construed as an insult. If Miller is good..and someone describes him as only "good'....then that is just what it is.. a value call..and a corret one. Ol' Brad has more lives than a cat it would seem. maybe Bails does have true insight and we'l see Miller rise to very good this year....then and only then is it insulting label him as not "very good " !!

Actually the thing that would appeal to me about a fellow such as Walker is simply his track record in dealing with the top end of town as well as dealing with the powerbrokers at the highest level of sport. I agree Redleg...a person of his ilk would be quite impressive...but more than that..I think he'd do things !!
-
the 'arrogance' I refered was Walkers !!
-
now now..and I thought i was a cynic !! lol.. I could almost detect... " gee i hope they dont seek revenge on ITT !! " Yes...this old guard are full of cliches !! Id be almost prepared to believe them...if only they came off the field after such debacles livid..instead they limp off like lambs... in nice clean shorts !!
-
Well for starters i do believe there's no roller stuck in the middle !! How much do any folks want to molly coddle these players ?? ffs they are being paid big big bickies ...if its their job they can bloody well get there !! if thats teh worst thing in theor lives..a few minutes travel... my god then how soft have we become. maybe that was the problem on Sunday...no one moved the ball close enough to them !!
-
I know !!!!!!!!! It's be terrible for them...the poor dahlinks !! Imagine having to get off their arses and travel a little to their jobs !! hardly seems fair does it ??
-
I wouldnt mind a smidge of arrogance in the club !! Not bucket loads.. but enough that someone say...hey ..backoff..we're Melbourne !!
-
Whilst I think its good that the 'old boys' are feeling warmer about coming in from the cold. I dont see that a club run by favourite sons is necessarily the answer. That same said sons are involved is wonderful but I want to know what they are on about... What is their platform, their vision etc. Chairman isnt a bloody popularity poll after all <_< Its a role to orchestrate and get things done.
-
I think thats a pretty fair question.. I can see that maybe he doesnt want the chief job... but a board position I would think a natural ...perhaps. good question.
-
yes..its all clear to me now...you create a 'leadership group" to which you add those who may or may not actually play !! you also leave out those that actually set examples. Yep...makes sense now !! What a crock of sh!te ..leadership groups..ffs.. These are people employed to do a job..if they cant get off their collectives and do it..theres the door over there >>>>>> Its like play time in the school yard... your on my team..and im not picking you .. . You're expecting ppl who at times have a rather tenous grip on their own purposee in the game to instruct others ?? The various players and positions are mentored as they are.. their called coaches !! All we are doing by play acting at leading is creating another level of escapism.. What is this..some sort of football by concesus ?? I would suggest that part of the malaise that exists atthe club is the direct result of empowering some of these clowns to take charge of the own destinies...you ask them to do this when they cant even follow simple team rules !!. Im all for KISS... lets keep it simple.. the Bosses tell the players what to do..and whose leading them..and how.. and let the players play... some are simply not equiped I feel to THINK too much...they are overwhelmed by all the 'layers' being introduced.

To be quite frank...id be interested in hearing what Jimmy had in mind before handing over my vote...to him...or anyone. But as you say...an intersting throw away ( line ) isnt it. If nothing else it must show to a few doubters that there is indeed a future for Melbourne..as Melbourne. ( in much the same way of Gazzas comment on TFS )
-
Definitely a positive.. many ..especially outsiders..or ..the "all knowing" media will no doubt find something untoward about all this but its a definite step in cementing our future. Not only from a Football training aspect but getting a toe hold in a new and growing area. Well done MFC for looking outside the sqaure ( and finding an oval !! )

What are YOU going to do about it?
beelzebub replied to Straight Sets Simon's topic in Melbourne Demons
Good onya Neita3000 !! thats bloody terrrific....by all parties !! Top stuff B) -
only if you warrant it.. not just because you are.. there are a many older coporals and sergeants !! but i havent heard of a platoon getting together nad taking a vote on whose going to wear the stripes, have you ?? The captains ought to be put their by the football panel

To me it also brings into focus the practice of teams electing these groups as opposed to more balanced and thoughtful process and personnel guiding this area. After all...most armies dont vote their officers ppr NCO's etc.. they are there through training and the exhibition of traits necessary. To have kids vote on their peers is frought with nonsense. I dont think Yze was ever an inpsired choice. There are going to be many areas that Bailey will just have to wait the year out on. He'll be tweaking that broom even now !!...well should be
