  1. dvi is meaningless next year as the draft is completely compromised not only are something like 15 of the current expected top 30-35 (depending on whose assessment you believe) set to be father-son and academy selections, but gc17 have freebies galore in pick 11, and darwin / academy access Pick 50 this year is neither here nor there but it's a shame to lose the second round pick
  2. wow, very bold could be a masterstroke, could be massive overs now it's a matter of what we do with 3, 8 and...we have no other pick this year??
  3. massive overs for pick 8
  4. completely different sorts of players tho daniher has more exposed form, but has missed so much football as well - and hasn't had anything like the emotional issues that hogan had to deal with at the same time that his body was letting him down again you can understand why swans don't want to pay top dollar for him, despite tapping him up; really it's on them to get it done now
  5. we won't be trading in jenkins
  6. injured his game when freo surprised gw$ was exactly why i still think, pending injury, he'll be one of the most damaging players in the game body is clearly a concern tho fwiw, i don't see bruce as a solution for us - we need better pressure at ground level as well as someone who is a genuine target, which is why elliott made such sense, as he's equally adept at ground level and as a main target most sides really play with one main target these days; even when together, for the most part, when he wasn't injured jack riewoldt was a decoy to clear space for lynch gw$ are an exception with three mobile talls, but the lack of ground level swarm they created on grand final was a significant contributor to them being destroyed by the tigers - admittedly they looked cooked after two close finals
  7. i personally doubt we'll nominate him, simply as we might not see him as 'best available'
  8. good for the afl handy when you are one of their franchises, no?
  9. pretty much this - hawks needed a key defender to assist and then take over from chip, we didn't want to / couldn't afford to pay him what he wants, and we wanted the picks to do other deals / maintain positions in the drafts of 2019 / 20 it's a win-win trade as it helped facilitate us getting langdon, which is much more important to us going forward as a 24 year old wingman as opposed to a 28 year old key defender in 2020
  10. i think you should highlight that we won the longest kick competition too! if he learns to slow down his approach to the game then i think he could get even better he could be, if he's not already, the best midfielder we have ever had
  11. his season was an absolute disgrace and he has a lot to make up for after the way he was clearly not ready for the pressure placed upon him in the melbourne football bubble tbh i was a bit disappointed we went for him rather than going to the draft with pick 6 - i never really rated him as a footballer as he seems a touch undersized for a modern key position defender at just 193cm, when a lot of the big key forwards these days are TALL that said, he is clearly a super talent and i'm really hoping i'm wrong and he has a big 2020 and beyond
  12. that game against the swans was more like the jones i want to see in that game he was getting much more forward of the ball and hitting the scoreboard he's been a bastion of the club yet at the same time doesn't necessarily seem to have been 'loved' by all and sundry - i'm hoping he gets to 300 minimum, as he's definitely in my best 22 at the start of 2020
  13. his form really dropped off at parts of the season, but he was hardly on his own there when he is at his best is when i think we as as football side are at our best, as he's clearly our most damaging user of the football i'd definitely like to see him move up the ground more, but at the same time they seem to like him coming off the back flank the most
  14. he started the year as a defender in the senior side, went back to casey where he played through the midfield, and ended back in the seniors as a forward the one common thread in all three roles he played in 2019 was that he instructed and encouraged all those around him in some respects it's disappointing he's going down media street as i think he could be a great coach
  15. love his effort and his flexibility while i still think that when he is playing as a tagger he's at his best, i wonder whether he will have a different role going forward in 2020 it seemed to me he played much more of a defensive role towards the end of last season, and i suspect he may continue in that role
  16. the only games of casey i saw this year where on the telly he did nothing in any of them the write-up from the club is encouraging so i hope there's something to work with there
  17. an encouraging 2018 was let down by a diabolical 2019 he had a fair whack of injury this year and he clearly stagnated in a poor side interesting that they tried him further up the ground in the latter stages - he doesn't seem like a natural ballwinner like caleb daniel, so i'm pretty uncertain as to what 'role' he can - groom him as small defender?
  18. one of the most frustrating players to watch - his efforts are too poor too often seems to jog from contest and contest and regularly does not 'go' when it's his turn seems to be unable to use the ball well by hand or foot; i know his claim to fame in underage football was that he was dual-sided, but i didn't realise that he wasn't particularly good on either
  19. absolute superstar three time all-australian, including once in a team that finished second last - there's not many players that could claim an 'honour' like that it's amazing the dominant ruckmen we've had in the #11
  20. ball drop is miles too high, he looks like he's about to pack his dacks every time he has a set shot but my goodness he's fabulous to watch in traffic i really rate him and think he'll be a very good player
  21. most important thing is that he got through a full season he had some right barry crockers; but he had some good games too i want that beast mode viney we had back
  22. have full faith he'll be a vital player for us for a long time the most important thing is that he got back and got a taste of footy again last year
  23. too many visy brown paper bags to keep him at the blues
  24. there's a few i disagree with him on; have added langdon and tomlinson too Hereโ€™s my breakdown: A: Max Gawn, Clayton Oliver B+: Tom McDonald B: Steven May, Christian Salem, Christian Petracca, Jack Viney, Jake Melksham, Ed Langdon B-: Nathan Jones, James Harmes, Angus Brayshaw, Michael Hibberd, Bayley Fritsch, Neville Jetta, Adam Tomlinson C+: Mitch Hannan, Aaron vandenBerg, Jayden Hunt, Alex Neal-Bullen, Marty Hore C : Oscar McDonald, Joel Smith C-: Billy Stretch, Kade Kolodjashnij, Braydon Preuss, Jay Kennedy-Harris, Corey Wagner, Josh Wagner Developing*: Jake Lever (B rising to B+ / A hopefully), Sam Weideman (C+ rising to...?), Harrison Petty (C+ rising to...?) Developing: Charlie Spargo (C+), Oskar Baker (C)), James Jordan (n/a}, Tom Sparrow (B-), Toby Bedford (n/a), Aaron Nietschke (n/a), Austin Bradtke (n/a), Kade Chandler (C-) i've added grades for the developing* - i think both weed and petty can be best 22 players for us, and think that their performance could be key for us going forward if my way of thinking of it is if you add all the a to c+ers and the three developing* then there's 24 players that ideally would be in our best 22, plus the addition of preuss and joel smith would take it to the named squad of 26...at least until we (hopefully) add some high class kids to the squad at the draft B: Jetta - May - Hibberd HB: Salem - Lever - Harmes ? Langdon - Brayshaw - Tomlinson HF: Petracca - T Mac - Melksham F: Fritsch - Weideman - Hunt Foll: Gawn - Oliver - Viney I/c: Jones - Hannan - vandenBerg - Petty Emerg: Preuss - ANB - Hore - Smith
  25. love his passion and enthusiasm for footy
