  1. joel hamling left straight after being a key defender in a premiership side too so that's five who've left - jones, hamling, adams, roughead, and now young meanwhile they brought in alex keath as a kp defender from the crows at not inconsiderable expense
  2. not even melbourne under neeld was THAT bad 😈
  3. hewett, cerra, and young for pick 6, a future 3rd, and sps is a big win for the bluebaggers imo the way footscray treat players that others play as key defenders is really strange over the last decade or so - jones, roughhead, and now young are all or are likely to be long-term key position defenders for their new clubs
  4. important thing to remember - lenny hayes personally chose to pass his #7 jumper on to dunstan, so once upon a time in a galaxy far, far away (pre-ratten, basically) the aints REALLY rated dunstan
  5. not named jack; are we SURE he's an aints player?
  6. don't rate; don't hate he'd be basically replacing nate jones as our 28th player?
  7. https://www.afl.com.au/news/65216/the-behind-the-scenes-guy-who-rebuilt-the-dees choice quote: "In my job, ideally you don't want to be going to a club after they've won a premiership. You want to be going to Melbourne, who hasn't won one (since 1964) – it's a challenge you're seeking to show your competitive spirit," Taylor told AFL.com.au.
  8. footywire is yr friend for this sort of thing... https://www.footywire.com/afl/footy/td-melbourne-demons 2010-15: pick 12 2010 - lucas cook pick 33 2010 - jeremy howe pick 36 2011 - rory taggert pick 2 2012 - jesse hogan (priority) pick 4 2012 - jimmy toumpas pick 26 2012 - jack viney (father/son) pick 9 2013 - christian salem pick 2 2014 - christian petracca pick 3 2014 - angus brayshaw pick 40 2014 - alex neal-bullen pick 42 2014 - billy stretch pick 4 2015 - clayton oliver pick 9 2015 - sam weideman so six premiership players from 13 selected in that time period, one other still on our list, and two others elsewhere 2016-2020: no 1st or 2nd round 2016 pick 29 2017 - charlie spargo pick 31 2017 - bayley fritsh pick 37 2017 - harrison petty pick 27 2018 - tom sparrow pick 33 2018 - james jordon pick 3 2019 - luke jackson pick 12 2019 - kysaiah pickett pick 32 2019 - trent rivers pick 21 2020 - jake bowey pick 22 2020 - bailey laurie so nine premiership players from 10 selected (!), all still on our list i think the more pertinent thing to look at is when jason taylor joined - in 2013 in that time he's made 18 first or second round selections, all bar one remain on our list, and 14 are premiership players
  9. plays a more difficult role than the likes of dunstan so gets judged far more harshly by all and sundry played in 10 games this year for a 9-1 result for the reigning premiers if we'd lost a neal-bullen or plugger mac during the run-in to the premiership, he may well have been next 'in'
  10. i'd rather invest inside mid rotation time into sparrow and jordon, and possibly woewodin or moniz-wakefield or who knows who else if he wants to play first or potentially second midfield rotation then i don't think he'd be wanting to come to us i don't particularly rate; i don't particularly hate him
  11. fwiw, i think hewett will prove a far more valuable pick-up than any of their high-priced imports in mcgovern, martin, williams, or saad i just can't fathom how they're paying them all, particularly with walsh out of contract at the end of 2022
  12. round 1 friday night at the g as a home game grand final replay would be a great way to start the season in an ideal world, we'd just split the gate every year, but as that is extremely unlikely i'm hoping that tiggas get the anzac eve as their home game and we get queen's birthday vs the filth so we can begin to alternate the fixture for gate takings other than that, my biggest curiosity is if we're sent down the highway to taxpayer park AGAIN, or used as one of the 'away' sides in tasmania for kangas (as is the norm) or hawks - can't think of the last time we weren't sent to either of those locales i presume we'll have one home game in the alice against a low-drawing interstate side (gc17, gw$)
  13. i really like caro - in terms of investigative reporting into the backroom shenanigans of afl and clubs she's second to none very happy he and his manager didn't sign the north offer, which - as far as i am aware and as was widely reported at the time - they rescinded midway through 2020 as he battled a serious knee injury and family issues with sideshow bob in the side, we were 11-1-1 and a premiership side happy days
  14. forget mac andrew; we won't be able to get him however, our other nga pick andy moniz-wakefield is likely to join, you'd think... from all reports both he and woeowdin are being projected as 'midfielders' going forward
  15. the little paper says gw$ likely to take him with their first 'live' pick - currently pick 2, but expected to slide behind daicos and darcy they reckon he'll go somewhere between 5-10
  16. definitely sticking with my 'nong' assessment
  17. possible but unlikely - gc17 want to shed picks in 2021, not gain em, as they have so many players contracted for 2022
  18. why? he was best 22 all year and a part of the back 6 til injury when he couldn't force his way back into a side that was settled in the midst of a finals run - not too surprising given he had surgery and most other players with similar injury were missing 12+ weeks i'd expect he'll be straight back to being part of the back 6 in 2022
  19. rendell screams out as a filth apologist all year the talk has been that daicos would be bid on with pick 1 and now a former filth employee is saying, "oh, no, he'll definitely slide to pick 3 which the pies already have the points to match"? he's even done the whole "why would you cost horne-francis $10k bonus by not picking him pick 1?" it's the same rubbish that bevo said last year re ugle-hagan to try and dodge around him, inevitably, being nominated at pick 1
  20. didn't gc17 pay an arm and a leg - or a pick 2, from memory - in order to get weller from freo? can't see them letting him walk away on the cheap
  21. that's exactly what tex walker said about jake lever...
  22. they've sold him on the same thing we did lever - come home, be part of a bright future, be paid a heap of cash
  23. that's easy - selwyn griffith! been being groomed for at least a year
