  1. The inverted design was initially suggested by Nugget_Jones, who was the originator of this post. If i recall correctly, it wasn't the first time he/she had raised the suggestion. Hopefully that jumper, or the all red jumper with MFC logo, get the go ahead sooner rather than later. I'll vomit if i have to see that silver montrosity again this season.
  2. He's a tough one to really love isn't he? I really want to love Juice because of his obvious talents, he just needs to work alot harder. I hope someone at the club like Neita can spend some serious time with him over the next season or two in a mentoring role. He's a prodigous talent- The kind that is so often wasted. If we want to get the best from him, a (champion) mentor is extremely important.
  3. That looks great. With all these awesome looking designs on here (i reckon i'd buy each of them if they were put out), its a complete mystery how we ended up with the thing we have now.
  4. Just came up with another design, should the predominantly red jumpers not get the go ahead, and white/silver is required by the AFL. Its based around the 2001-2002 pre-season jumper. Similar to richie_mac and vanlo's designs. Or, with 150th logo, should the jumper be used this year.
  5. That is certainly very good news! Looks like they may just get some suggestions off us after all . Clash strips so often dont work out well, but i was just thinking, on a positive note re: clash strips... How nice it is to see Brisbane play in the old Fiztroy colours. I know if i were an ex-Roy's supporter, even if i only had a small following of Brisbane now, i'd definitely buy it. Definitely a case of a good-looking, successfully designed away strip. I really hope the club has a good look at these designs, and the AFL gives one of the above red jumpers, or the inverted colours jumper, the all-clear. I have a feeling they'd be a roaring success. I'll buy two if it looks anything like my final design! haha
  6. I'll watch with keen interest tomorrow. Hope it gets on and Garry takes it seriously. Judging by the spray he gave the white/silver jumper on Footy Classified, i wouldn't be surprised if he does. Must say, i quite prefer the all red jumper with blue MFC logo, but with the white numbers and sponsor logos on back! (If it is getting on TV...)
  7. That would be great. Unheard of, but great! To actually have a real say in how the jumper should look, instead of just a few limited choices. Its win-win for the club (who gain a more marketable design with suggestions from their target market), and for the members, who have a say in making sure something like the silver jumper never comes out again. The jumper should only be designed by people who live and love the MFC... not some marketing suits. In regards to the mostly red jumper, I think they felt the need to 'overhaul' the last clash jumper completely, as a result of the new MelbourneFC brand dropping the Demon. But i dont know why that instantly meant changing the colours of the away strip completely? The jumper Demon4Life and myself suggested, or even the inverted colours from Nugget Jones, are not all that disimilar to the old clash strip, but, importanty without the Demon. And they are still completely recognisable and familiar to the MFC identity, not like our current one. It couldnt have been that hard to get rid of the demon face, but still keep it familiar and simple. There was never an issue of colour-clash with our old red jumper, and there would never be. The white/silver thing, IMO has already clashed with other clubs we've played this year. No matter which way u spin it, the design and marketing team made some big blunders in putting that silver jumper out. Frankly, i cant even begin to comprehend how it came about as the best option in the end. All of the serious suggestions in this post thus far (and even the jumper with Neita on the front! ) have been much nicer, and seriously more marketable to current and prospective members than that silver job.
  8. Something like this? I had the same idea, but I personally like a bit of blue on the back as well, hence my modifcation of Demon4Life's jumper with the blue strip up the top. Or with added 150th logo on front right corner. edit: I added the letters "Est." for established above the 1858 on the back of the guernsey. I think this (Est. 1858) should be on the back of our home jumper as well, and should be a permanent fixture as a reminder that we were, and will always be the first club. Not just for our 150th, but always.
  9. Could we see Jamar come into the side? With both White and Paul Johnson getting spanked in the hitouts (total and effectiveness) and having little influence on the stoppages against St Kilda, and DB naming PJ as one to be given an opportunity as KP forward in the coming weeks- with the long-term loss of Robbo and retirement of Neita... Oddly, i think Jamar is a must to play. I'm quite vocal about my dissatisfaction with Jamar as a player (i'll admit, yes, i'm a Jamar-basher), but i think he will be required to play against the Pies and, if selected, will probably contest the majority of the ruckwork. I think the 3 ruckmen will be played, with PJ spending the majority of the game at FF/FP. FWIW, I hope the INs and OUTS this week are: OUTs: Robertson (inj), Yze, Bartram, Dunn, Bell, Frawley (all omitted). Yze did nothing against the Saints (i'm not counting junk-time goals) and i think Sylvia can fill the role left vacant by Robbo. IMO Dunn did not do enough to keep his spot + looked lost when played forward. Bartram and Bell desperately need to find some form in the VFL, and if Rivers is fit, ditto Frawley. INs: Davey (if fit), Rivers (if fit), Whelan (if fit), C.Johnson, Jamar, Morton. As has been said before, its unlikely all 3 of Whelan/Rivers/Davey will pull up, so chances are one or more of Bell, Frawley, Yze, Bartram, or Dunn could be a late inclusion. Injury-permitting, i'd say Bell/Bartram for Whelan, Frawley for Rivers, Yze/Dunn for Davey, should late changes occur. B: Whelan Warnock Garland HB: Wheatley Rivers Green C: Moloney Jones Davey HF: Morton Miller Bate F:Wonaeamirri P.Johnson Sylvia FOLL: White McLean Jones Inter: Bruce, Jamar, C.Johnson, Buckley EMG: Bell, Frawley, Yze.
  10. That would look absolutely great! There no way the club could look at that thing and not admit that its 50 times better than our current strip. The inverted jumper or that jumper above i would be happy to see out there. Time to get rid of the silver strip now! We still havent won a game in it (including pre-season), and hopefully we never do (as its never worn again)! I wonder though, has there been some sort of instruction or direction by the AFL, requiring us to have the silver in the jumper?
  11. Because we only ever seem to play Carlton (intent on losing) in it!
  12. You're right, they should have. That inverted jumper would look heaps better!
  13. Does anyone remember who the high kick to Robbo v 3 saints came from? Hospital-ball of the ABSOLUTE highest order....
  14. I'm shocked u gave Aussie 6 votes! Don't get me wrong, I love the kid and want him more than anything to develop into an absolute superstar, but there's no use giving him cheap votes to just pump up his standing in the POTY Award. He had his worst game at AFL level today, with little to no impact. He kicked the ball into the man on the mark, i counted, on 3 occasions! Just to give u an idea of just how off the boil he was... FWIW, my votes (given its 2am, i havent watched the replay and i've been out drinking since the game ) would be: 6. Warnock 5. Bate 4. P. Johnson 3. Jones 2. McLean 1. Sylvia Tough task this week. Thought Wheatley's disposal and composure under pressure deep in defence, was poor today. Got a lot of the footy, but rarely did anything really good with it, and often sold his teammates into pressure with poor decisions. I expect more from him. Didn't deserve votes IMO. Sylvia was ok in his return, but only got a vote because i ran out of people to give them to. He will need to perform at a higher level than that next week, probably closer to goal, with Robbo out. I wanted to give Junior votes cause i thought he worked harder than anyone else out there today, but he got absolutely slaughtered by Dal Santo in the end. Tough week.
  15. What a sad, sad day for the club. One of my personal favourite's (i picked as 'my man' after seeing him kick 6 or 7 goals in the ressies in 1997 before making his debut, and have backed him ever since). Up until the start of 2008 i had #24 on the back of my Melbourne jumper, which has since gone numberless*, so its definitely one of those moments in footy i'll never forget, should the career-ending worst eventuate. (*Incidentally, it was finally torn off completely during the Demonland/Ology v Sainsational match this year, not because i dont love Robbo). I'd like to think Robbo can get back from this one, but his chances seem very slim now. If so, to go out like this is, after working so hard to prove himself as an AFL footballer, seems highly unjust, and a very sad and dissappoiinting way to end a career, which in many ways has mirrored the fortunes of the club. In other words, an inconsistent roller-coaster of dizzying highs, and at times, sickening lows. I'll miss Robbo a lot, and as long as he's still on the list and is working 100% hard to get back into the side when he's fit again, then i'll back him to go round one more time, maybe late in 2009 and have a proper farewell then. But as i said earlier, the chances of that seem highly unlikely now, with the severity of his injury, and age. I'll reserve my farewells and thankyou's for after he's retired though. However it still a sad day, probably the last time we see Robbo running around in the red and blue.
  16. I'd like to say he has (arrived at elite status), but i dont think he's there yet. Statistically speaking, he's excelling at the moment, but the reality of the situation is, Brock is the #1 midfielder for the team on the bottom of the ladder, with a scoring percentage of under 70%. He's not impacting games as much as his stats would suggest, and there are still major queries over his ability to shake a tag (only 4 kicks against Adelaide tagged by Robert Shirley). Once he can overcome that, i'd say he truly has 'arrived' at elite status. I'd like to see him kicking more goals also (just one for the year so far). He still has some way to go, but he seems to be working his butt off and is playing career-best footy, probably to prove he is worthy of a leadership position again.
  17. Luke Williams? haha... not ex-MFC Luke Williams, is it? Good to hear Meesen and Sylvia had good games, and CJ continues to dominate. Interesting selection tonight...
  18. Not much mention of it, but that was absolutely shocking. Probably one of the worst of many bad decisions of the day. I could not believe they'd missed such a clear infringement! The rebound they got from that missed free was one of many that resulted in a goal.
  19. He was really hard and tough in close today. I saw in the stats after the game that he'd laid a career-high 9 tackles, and was not surprised at all by this. His hard work and intensity in close as always, were really good. He's got a big body, and he knows how to use it well to create space for teamates at stoppages, and is strong over the footy. However, his use of the ball again wasn't great, and he is so often caught out for pace when in space. I still have huge faith that Beamer will improve and continue to improve over the rest of the season, and years to come. This year is the first time he's been able to get some continuity into his game for a long time, and with that, his fitness, and confidence in his own skills, will rise. He's still fairly young, and with more confidence/fitness, we will again see him become a very damging player by foot. His physicality and "in-your-face" aggression is something we need more of on the list, and this, combined with the confidence in skills he'll gain from further gametime continuity, mean Moloney still has a good upside with improvement ahead of him. For all his physical limitations and flaws, he does bring some attributes that are not in abundance at MFC, and bleeds for the club. The issue is with other similar young players like McLean, Jones, Valenti etc, spots may not be in abundance come years end. He's good enough to play 150+ games, if he can keep his body right and keep working his butt off, he'll go a long way to getting there. DB's ploy of putting him on a good player and being led to the ball is good way for him to refind some of that confidence and form, simplify his game and add that much needed defensive aspect to his game. Sam Mithcell was the perfect player for him to play on, as he's the perfect example of what Brent should be striving towards as a player. He's responded well so far, and has the rest of the season at least to repay some of my faith. He's just going ok atm IMO, but good luck to him.
  20. Disagree with Bruce re: effective. Yes, his disposal efficiency was above 80%, but a lot of those effective disposals put his teammates under un-due pressure. Dont let the stats sheet fool you. Watch the replay, it tells a different story.
  21. 6. Bate -- B.O.G for mine. Really clean hands. Started to look really condfident and sure with his handling. Great defensive pressure too. 5. McLean -- Relentless attack on the ball all day. 29 disposals and 7 tackles. Workman-like performance. 4. Davey -- Looks to have found some form again, lively and dangerous all day. Minus the silly 50 he gave away, was very good. 3. Moloney -- Worked hard in close all day. Applied immense pressure at stoppages (9 tackles.) 2. Wonaeamirri -- Uses the ball so well and has such amazing awareness. Already looks a player, but will be something else in years to come after some solid pre-seasons. 1. Garland -- Had the unenviable task of playing on Buddy and did everything he could. In the end it was Buddy's brilliance that got him 3 crucial goals, but Garland is one who could really hold his head up high. Overall, it was a much better, more even team effort this week. Green, Jones, Bruce, Buckley and Holland all stiff to miss. Bruce poor disposal kept him out of my votes.
  22. I think Warnock will get first crack at Buddy. He's got the height and a bit of toe as well. Probably the best match up we have physically. Then Frawley 2nd option, Garland 3rd. Holland and Miller must NOT play back!!!!!
