To the naked eye I’d say bring better players in and drop poor performers. But to the eye that has brains I’d say Jetta, Melksham out and assess fitness of Viney and Salem. If Lockhart is ready to go I don’t see why he wouldn’t be pushing. Still thinking about Weid, don’t want to change things too much but he wasn’t good.

Just loves playing against the Crows. Would have loved nothing more than his performance to will us over the line but it wasn’t to be. He floated on air last night.

That’s fair but there’s no indication from the umpire whatsoever at the time suggesting it was off hands. I’d put this down to luck that it happened to come off Spargo hand more so than brilliant umpiring but that’s just my view. The case is closed though.

Lots of other business to deal with until then but I will be quietly chalking it in the calandar

We let umpires off with the argument that players make mistakes in games so umpires should be afforded that privilege as well. Well how about standing up in the big moments? We want our players to be able to perform under pressure. I want our umpires to do the same and do their job to the nest of their ability under immense pressure. Lately it seems like they tighten up under pressure or the home crowd influence.

Never said that. I’m talking about aesthetics of the game and being a spectacle to watch. I’m not sure how to explain to a newcomer a) a rule like holding the ball in the first place and b) why they are paid so often for 3 1/2 quarters and then suddenly not. Or why one textbook holding the ball on Gawn is paid then seconds later is not on Keays? Nothing to do with my Melbourne bias or anything, it’s purely my opinion on how the game looks and if anyone wants to stick their beaver-like chompers in for having an opinion on it then have at it.

For me the umpiring incidents last night aren’t about whether they cost us the game. It’s the fact that they were so hot on every 50-50 call right up until the last 5 mins when they decided to swallow the whistle. it is a crappy spectacle for the fan and this not good umpiring for me, I don’t care how many people say ‘we love this no free kicks in the dying stages, great umpiring’ I’m sorry but those people are full of crud. We love a free flowing game but we’ve got rules in place and when a free kick is there it should be paid. If you do not like this then do something to the rules to take out all the interpretation ie abolish deliberate, pay every single tackle HtB. Not the way I’d want to do it but it needs to be black and white or shut the f up. If the shoe was on the other foot I’d be saying the same thing.

Witherden could have been a nice get. Guess we didn’t bank in Fire and Lockhart getting those injuries. Shane because the Eagles really got him for a song.

Bang on, especially the highlighted. This one is on the senior players and their decision making late. Hibberd’s burn of Tmac when open was stupid, players like Max who really just needed to keep simple. May’s performance was pathetic tonight and that last contest with the ball completely evading him and ending up in Tex’s hands as he completed the mark around his shoe laces summed it up.

Weid really stunk up the joint, would be nice to get some consistent games into him but he probably can’t stay on that performance.
