We have no need for Tom Lynch.

From what I sort of gather it's pods of 8 that train together regularly? It's very tough, you don't want positions getting wiped out but you want to build synergy too. This season is full of catch-22s

Definitely a good way to look at it!

Yeah the war years were rough but was anyone here around for them? It is absolutely true that there have been compromised seasons but let's not pretend we're comparing apples and apples. Pre draft, pre salary cap, pre equalization, pre professional game list goes on.

I'm really enjoying this thread. As someone born 20 years after this and with pretty much just those few minutes of newsreel footage of the 64 grand final to go off it really helps reading the stories here! Keep it up!

That was what I noticed as well. At least he was presenting and making an option.

Really needs 6 games in a row alongside May. I was going to give Lever this season before assessing the trade again with with the way it's going is there going to be any point in that? Most of us were stoked when we got him but most of us also raised an eyebrow at the price we paid.

Said it before but my preference was to have a break until about July/August and then have some kind of off-shoot Ansett/Wizard/Nab Cup style tournament that could have any kind of round robin format they can think of that would last a couple of months and give people something to watch along with giving players match practice. I think it could have been a good chance to brand it as something else and differentiate itself from the usual premiership cup and they could have finished it around the regular time of year without having to go deep into the racing calendar. But go on AFL, keep trying to raise this premiership season from the dead.

Gotta write something I guess.

Very impressed with Hunt's position and willingness to just go at the ball and take a few grabs. I would have loved to see him as a negating forward on Saad this week.

Was really the only thing I was looking for when reading the members letter re: streaming.

I'm starting to think that might be harsh on a pre season comp, it would feel to me like a lightening premiership at juniors level.

Will see how he goes in the intra club, which by the way I hope we don't lose.

Instead of telling us what everything aint how about telling us what it am ?

On the eve of our game again!

Well I guess Dean Kent, Ben Kennedy and a few others had that infamous drinking session and weren't around for much longer.

Really is an indictment when you consider those names we have. We just get slaughtered in the air time and time again.

A relief. That was it. Of course there is the positive that when a team looked destined to run over the top of us we somehow managed to pull it out, I can't ignore that but it's little consolation. There were more negatives to come out of this game than positives. And there were definitely positives. Trac looking like the player we had hoped him to be, Harley Bennell - great to see him get through the game unscathed. He genuinely looked like he wanted to be there and I hope he strings together a good 4-5 week period of games. Max Gawn, absolute star and put on that clinic of ruckwork in the first half. Hunt could have a place as the pacey small opportunist forward, I really hope so anyway. But my goodness there are so many holes. Apart from Max there are times when you know we probably won't take a contested mark for the rest of the game. Sideways kicking, tikitakka style football that just shows anything but confidence. The style that we play when on is excellent but it's obvious it can't be maintained for the whole game and this is where we need to be able to lock it down and control tempo. For as long as I can remember the gap between out best and worst is ridiculous. It's not even about the 4 or 5 goal streaks we concede without answering anymore. It's the fact that a team can apparently smash the opposition in clearances in the first half and not just fall back in the second but completely reverse that to the point where you thought the teams swapped jumpers. I'm sorry but I cannot even consider this team serious until that gap shortens. I am not saying our team needs to play 4 quarters of brilliant contested high pressure footy, teams have lulls. However our lulls stink. If the opposition if having a purple patch with contested ball and hard ball gets we've still gotta be able to get our hands on it occasionally. We just completely stopped in this area. Salem completely lost his kicking, Lever and May were not great, Joel Smith nearly cost us the game. I am so sick and tired of sitting around with neutral football followers who watch a game like this and say "nah you should be right, you're 40 points up". Seriously please lord have mercy I'm about to bash my head into the wall due to the years of frustration hearing that. My attitude has never ever changed with us, get a lead, get more of a lead, just keep playing football. None of this relax your 4 goals up BS. I don't know what this season holds for us. To make the 8 would be incredible but I see us finishing just out. Take it before a loss or draw and full credit. Singing the song without the captain looks bad and my word we really show what we are when we celebrate a win the way we did. That's enough.

COVID has done nothing to change the order of the world. The Dees can still fluff a lead and have you reaching for the life support.
