2004 boys, time to read the Riot Act.
Good thread bit I don't think we quite need to read the riot act. May be just a 3 second video of David Neitz saying "Don't waste it" will do.

CHANGES: Rd 19 vs Western Bulldogs
I know what you meant Nev it’s all good. I looked at the heat maps and am not disputing any of that but I am wondering if a different look at the centre bounces could be worth it. Viney is not just slow with leg speed but reaction time, there’s a number of hard balls he’s not getting to at bounces and when he does he’s got no time on the ball and scruffs his kicks. Gotta be thinking a step ahead.

CHANGES: Rd 19 vs Western Bulldogs
Yes and no. Definitely drifted through the middle for most of his possessions but I reckon I saw him at about 3 centre bounces for the game. Would like to see a bit more of a run through there but that’s not for me to decide.

CHANGES: Rd 19 vs Western Bulldogs
Yeah fair point on AVB being able to influence in the air like Gus does. Keeping an eye on the ball and just halving the contest where he has to. I would question if he can run out games regularly at the moment but that can be improved. Something to think about at least. Gus’s kicking has always been a hard thing to nail down. I’ve always labelled him as a bit of a ‘confidence kicker’ in that when he’s up and running he runs through the middle and kicks well but then there’s the times he butchers it consistently. I’ve never thought there was a whole lot wrong mechanically with his foot skills. If nothing else it would just give us a different look at delivery into the 50. I don’t know what’s going to happen but it is starting to look a bit predictable through the middle.

POSTGAME: Rd 18 vs Hawthorn
Thought I’d feel better today and while we at least escaped with 2 points it’s not good enough. It’s not the result it is the way we played. We need to be mentally, physically and systematically sharp as ever. It sounds harsh, I know we have been great this year but we’ve gotta stop looking in the past now. We’re in the big time now fighting it out near the top of the ladder and those other teams don’t care if we were good for the first 10 rounds, 5 % off and they will gladly take our spot. It’s dog eat dog. Delicate flowers will be trampled on and near enough won’t be good enough. That’s the cut throat nature of AFL footy. These things are hard to win and to be the last team standing you have to be special. More special than some darn good teams. Can they rise to the occasion, yes they can. They’ve proven they can, but as of right now there are no more bloopies to give. Sh** just got real.

It is one ace we have up the sleeve. He is a natural in the middle. I do worry about filling that wing side though it’s just a bit of an unknown.

Umpires Bouncing & Throw Ins
I see where you’re coming from completely as I’ve felt bounces and throw ins have been rather pathetic for a while but seriously how many training wheels do we have to add to get people to do their job properly? To me this is in the same category as goal kicking. It is something that gets fixed with lots and lots of practice. I know it’s boring but do it with a friend at training, everything is more fun with a friend. Or better still go to a fricken park and bounce the ball and throw in for 30 mins a day I guarantee you will get better. The number of short throw ins has gone to a new level. Botched bounces sort of make sense but throw in standard slipping down is just cringe, get better at it or just invent some kind of football tennis machine to throw in for them. A nice advertisement for when the AI takes over anyway. We live in a time where cloud based, zoom meeting, app this app that is forefront. Let’s get back to the fundamentals of life and just sheer hard work at something to get better at it.

413 shots for 205 goals and 208 pionts
Need to kick straighter. I really have nothing else to say about such a simple topic. It's not even a question just get it better or find someone who can.

There might actually be something to that. Seems to be carrying extra in the rump.

Very well put but I'm sorry I was a little sidetracked. I saw you were from Coorparoo and all I could think of was Jason Dunstall country. A man who knew how to kick straight!

Who the hell is our goal kicking coach!?
Let’s be honest. How many players in our team could regularly kick set shots from 50 out? Actually forget that how about 40 out? Some of the ways these balls were missing was embarrassing either not making the distance or being way off. Fix it now, win finals, deliver us the flag.

Anyone else notice we tend to stink after 9 day breaks? Yet off 5 or 6 days breaks we’re golden. It’s like this group is better off when they roll on through battle hardened and too long of a break is like ring rust. I don’t know.

Before we trade him can we just try him as a defensive forward for a bit?

I can’t believe I’m even wondering if we were better off not taking advantage from the Viney free and kicking to Pickett. Nah he should have just played on :p

It was Melbourne tonight in a nutshell and an excellent insight as to where our heads were at. I want players that want to win and not players that make it about themselves.
