Clayton Oliver interview with Unlaced
Listened to it last night, good interview. Lots of respect for the guys that helped him and he never fails to give Billy Stretch a shout out for helping him early on with training and dietary habits. The bit about re-injuring his hammy twice more after the Port game, well aware that hamstrings can be re-injured and it's a balancing act with rehab but it was public knowledge that the club had him running laps not even a week after the first injury. To me this either says two things: A) The club completely mismanaged his injury B) He was so desperate to get back and probably defied orders to rush himself back, or both. Not an expert and happy for people to add to this but this period will always be questionable. To his credit though the interview made me realise how often players are playing through other injuries, when he came back in 2023 he then got the knee issue and as we know his last game this year he was battling 3 different injuries. Makes you realise how much it takes just to get a player on the field sometimes.

Oliver Trade Rumours
It was the one thing I was hanging onto. I was much more towards not trading Oliver under any circumstances but I do believe players have their price as well and godfather offers do need to be listened to from time to time. In the back of my mind I always thought that if it came down to losing one of our stars like Clarry, then we would at least be able to cash in for very good compensation. I would still have been annoyed but I would have understood the club's position if this kind of deal were brokered. But the fact that we've shown our hand and are dripping with desperation to move him, how much leverage do we really have now? A generational talent up there with the likes of the midfielders that you and I got to watch at other clubs tear us up repeatedly over the years, offloaded for next to nothing. Even if this is fixing some kind of culture problem at the club it will set us back significantly from a list management and we will have to wait at least a few years to see if it was a good move or not. Very hard to sell hope to the members with a strategy like that. I'm sure there is more to how it has all transpired but as I said last night: If everything was going ok under the club's watch, with the people who work with him everyday, meeting his objectives right up until the review which suddenly unearthed vital info that he's a cancer on the club and the playing group, then this club is run by some real delusional morons. I'm sure people will question this and wonder if this was just the case all year and kept under wraps but then I'd ask why his captain said to the media last month that he was keen to get Clarry up to QLD for training camp to get a head start on pre season. Maybe they lie, who knows. #cluster****

Has anyone asked the question why Clayton was at the Brownlow? If there really was a strict set of guidelines to be met this year then why were we more than happy to let him go?

If it has solely taken the review to reveal something about Clarry being detrimental to our culture and future success, then the people running this club are even more delusional bastards than I thought they were.

We devote a lot of our lives fronting up to games each week from March to September. For some there's probably no place they would rather be, for others there is sacrifice. I'm red and blue till I die but considering that we're the ones keeping them in jobs it is a massive gut punch. When I pay my membership each year, I don't expect winning as a pass mark, I don't even expect to be good consistently. But the one, basic fundamental I except is for this football club to be run properly, not losing control and being plastered across the papers every week.

MFC 2024 BEST & FAIREST NIGHT
I want to see an uprising at this event. Tables turned over, chairs thrown across the room, tomatoes thrown, absolute Halloween Havoc.

Is it worth complaining about the media? That could help.

If the playing group is fed up with Clarry then why would the media be rep with him for a training camp a few weeks ago? A lot must have happened in the last few weeks.

You'd hope so, unless he has Trac's management.

It is a potentially catastrophic situation that may well have been the snookering of the century. How a partial salary dump and little else became the desired outcome for a potential Oliver trade baffles me.

It feels like a real rock and hard place moment. It is reminding me of Charles Haley, one of the great defensive ends in the NFL who helped the 49ers win two superbowls. He had some serious demons and some of his behaviour was just flat out disgusting towards the end of his time in San Francisco, the players had honestly had enough and the GM and coach felt the situation was untenable. Meanwhile the Dallas Cowboys and Jimmy Johnson needed a defensive end and felt they could help Haley and work with him to better himself, they went on to win 3 Superbowls in the 90s with Haley being a crucial part of that. The balance of power in the NFC almost shifted with that one trade. The point of this is that you sometimes find yourself as a club in these crud situations. We may have a very good reason to move Clayton on, but there is that possibility that the fresh start and a change of scenery could see him back to his best and help the Cats win another flag. I would be hoping that doesn't happen and from a cynical side that he doesn't reach the heights he did with us but if it does help to improve our culture.. Ah it's too heartbreaking to think about this right now.

$10 million dollars of guaranteed money with 6 years to go has been ringing in my head like a jackhammer since I heard it. If true then he makes a decent case.

Open Letter to the MFC
I don’t care how the letter comes across, the club is a basket base at the minute. People might think it’s a whiney so and so threatening to not renew their membership. Sure, but someone is prepared to stick their neck out in public and hold the club accountable. Why throw stones at them for doing something that most of us aren’t prepared to do or cbf? We get rid of the president, we start a review, we try to get an ex player on the board and it falls through, we fill a casual vacancy again in interesting circumstances after being dragged through the courts about that and other things. Then on top of all that we reportedly get the CEO undermining the FD and coach by shopping one of our best players around. They control the narrative about as well as they can control a billy cart down a hill. Membership prices are going up again, cost of living is high, it’s a wrench giving money to this football club right now when they can’t govern or manage our club out of a paper bag. People get unhappy when this happens and when they lose faith they want to be heard.
