  1. Culture problems
  2. With the Stringer deal off this is probably even less likely.
  3. Yeah remember when he would be running with the ball then as he kicked he'd raise the ball up before dropping it like some kid at Auskick? Was not a sight for sore eyes. Some team will reap the benefits with Smillie if they put he resources into him.
  4. Yeah interesting. It is true though, all key backs at youth level seem to be interceptors and rarely your classic 1 v 1 full back. Almost seems like something they have to perfect once they get into the AFL system.
  5. Must be a Francophile kind of day today. My director is in France currently but he's had some kind of food poisoning and isn't too well. I've getting morning emails with nothing but French pleasantries. Usually a no nonsense no faff kind of guy so he's definitely lost the plot.
  6. I always like your thinking DeeZone but I'd really hate it if this was just a nepotism pick. If he does have the raw materials that could be worked with and evenually fashioned into a decent AFL player then by all means we should take the punt but it's sounding like some of our NGA products might be worthy consideration for the rookie spot as well.
  7. I like it, good philosophy THBT.
  8. Come on guys. 3 hours left, we need to stick together.
  9. Donald Duck? Yeah he's pretty good.
  10. Ok I'm going to put this out once and only once because I don't have much if any experience of watching him. Is the kid any good? Can he actually make it in the AFL? I feel like there's a section of this place that just wants to see a team full of father/sons for the romanticism of it.
  11. It's like a jungle sometimes it makes me wonder how I keep from going under..
  12. I can see Port getting him
  13. If Tommo does end up going would it increase the chances of going for someone like Tauru in the draft? Looking pretty thin back there.
  14. Yep me too. Spent quite a bit of time off here this year, been on more lately because of trade period but it hasn't been the most pleasant place. Early in the year I'd replaced a lot of my time on here with regular book reading but the last one I was on got boring so that's probably another reason I'm on more lately.
  15. Haha appreciate that, admittedly also the voice of insanity sometimes.
  16. If nothing else, at least you're being transparent and citing endorsements of the working culture at MFC HQ. It may not show fully the culture of our playing group and football department but it does count for something and can be taken into account. There's a lot of opinions flying around at the moment but I think we need to keep this as a civil discussion.
  17. Fair enough, I see your point.
  18. Yeah I haven't seen enough of his field kicking either but there's no doubt he's the 'extractor' of this draft. If a club is looking for a player to give you 30 touches a week to take to the bank it's him. His agility is pretty much elite as well, able to evade tackles and make guys miss. I can see this being pretty useful the way the game is at the moment.
  19. Correct, but isn't it also possible to have culture issues while having success? There wouldn't be many who thought the 2006 West Coast side didn't have issues. Cultural issues can be in the eye of the beholder as it's more 'the way we do things round here' than a set guide handed out to every club. Unfortunately there have been a lot of these events now, plenty of media beat ups but a lot of factual incidents too and on balance people are probably right to be questioning our culture. No culture is perfect though either, Simon Goodwin has said that it is an ongoing process. However I do think at some point we need to realise that not everything written about us is a scripted conspiracy. We need to improve.
  20. Well, he played 24 games last year so the club saw something in him. Or they were lying.
  21. What if they sign new deals?
  22. How can a rumour be supported by evidence?
  23. The Tigers have cleaned up in this trade period. Perfect timing with Tassie coming in, the nucleus of their next premiership team should probably kick in to finals gear in time for compromised drafts.
  24. Worst case fills the spot left by Hunter. Medium case fills the ANB role. Best case becomes a gun running machine who breaks the lines with his ability.
  25. 'Mid' Draper. I do think he's going to go top 4, he's got everything you want in a modern day midfielder. I'll be very happy with Langford if it comes to that, his left foot could be a game changer and more than makes up for the yard of pace he's missing.
