  1. Thats true, they have sat during all that, like the waterboys and girls. Old dee dont fall into the trap of not remembering responsibilities. Boards dont oversee the day-to-day activities of the club, it cannot control its players, it merely controls the financials and appointment of key positions such as coach and CEO. In regards to the negotiations, in terms of oppotunity cost, we were far better off settling. The costs of appealing (apparently were around the same figure), stress and overall risk of outcome (not good precedent for sporting teams appealing) were too high. Also you forget the most important thing the board has done, and even for you I'm surprised you've been so one-sided, was to get us debt free... They wiped out $5 million during the GFC, when others were calling for our end, and got us into a profit last year. I'll be the first to admit that they will have to burnden some responsibility for this, but I can assure you that most of them wouldnt have known. They are just board members. They meet once in a while, this isnt their primary job, and cannot tell you what the club doctor has been doing. The person who should have known, and the one II've been wondering wtf was happening when he was in power was CS. You have a right to be axe angry, I'm angry too credit where credit is due and blame where blame is due.
  2. My AFL Player Rule 1.6 spidy senses are tingling...
  3. Watching ABC News Breakfast - Reporter 1: "We would just like to stress that none of them have broken an Australian or World anti-doping guidelines, but these discussions do appear to contradict some of the things Melbourne's has said publicly and that the club previously denied that the players have had no direct contact with Dank". Demetriou: "they mave maintained a position publicly and through the media that they have never employed Stephen Dank" Reporter 2: "Employing him and seeking advice from him are clearly different..." Demetriou: "That will remain to be seen because if there is an association then that is inconsistant with what we have been told"
  4. The issue here is transperancy - the AFL approached all clubs and asked if anyone has been in contact with him. Clearly we have, and we said no. Also with substances its not whats illegal or illegal its: - Approved - Not approved - Yet to be approved If its not approved or yet to be approved then dont touch it...
  5. My footy mates have always said substances fall into three categories: Approved Not approved Yet to be approved If its not approved - don't touch it.
  6. Natural selection slowly at work... Win for 'neutral' commentary and could make for some very funny listening!
  7. Thought you might be interested in some facts about Neil Craig considering you dont have any: Longest serving coach for the Crows Lead them to finals for four consequitive years and a total of 9 finals Worked with the Australian Cycling team during the 2000 Sydney Olympics Worked with the SAIS (South Australian Institute of Sport) as a senior sports scientist During 2005 to 2009 coached the Crows to win 75 games out of 119 Worked as assistant coach and fitness adivser during the Crows 1997 and 1998 premerships Was writen off in his first season with most people predicting the Crows to come in the bottom 6 in 2005... they came 4th All round extremely nice guy, well liked, and well respected.
  8. Craig is regarded as one of the best in the business. We were extremely lucky to have him.
  9. Big Kev also thought Israel Falou could have been a superstar... somehow I feel his superstar senses are a bit off http://www.heraldsun.com.au/afl/teams/kevin-sheedy-sensed-israel-folaus-superstar-potential/story-fn7ec9f5-1226508680001
  10. I honestly avoid saying who I support sometimes at work, not that I dont love the dees - just can't stand some of the crap people from other clubs have to say. I had a Carlton supporter say when he was leaving "Tanks for everything", and I replied "No worries, hope Kreuzer goes well for you!"... Carlton's 0-3, came 10th last year, and everyone knows they tanked in 2007... wtf mate Or worse, I get pitied
  11. If this was going to be handled only by the AFL then I can assure you it would have been swept under the rug... at the end of the day its in their best interests
  12. Green missed out on the 1998 finals (when we came fourth & Daniher's first season) but his first finals was in 2000 (drafted in 1999) and from what I can remember was the reason why we got to the grand final (vaguely remember it.. think it was when we beat North Melbourne - or another finals game when he came off the bench and with that left kick of his snagged us a couple of last minute goals to win). Daniher did what the MFC couldnt do since 1988 and we still havent been able to do since 2000 - get us into a grand final. Good to hear he is going well at West Coast
  13. I know your question was rhetorical but he coached us into a grand final, 5 other finals, and twice into the bottom 2. Also he apparently holds the record for the longest coaching career in the history of AFL/VFL (1998 to mid 2007) and not win a premership... presumably because most get the axe earlier on but his every second year helped him.
  14. The good old Fletcher torp - Sheedy was a big fan of this type of play
  15. No one will have a go at the AFL pin up boy. The AFL have invested alot in him to get him to GWS - not a surprise no one wants to call him out on his failures as it would just be another failed AFL marketing move (like Israel Folau)
  16. I was talking about board, CEO, coach and staff axing - which has been quite a few (see my first post to Macca) - for example CS was our 3rd CEO in 6 seasons "That's why it annoys me when I see people calling top down axing of board, staff and coach." Mos tof the axing has been with reason, but I'm saying now why don't we give MN the chance to prove himself without judging him this early
  17. Fair point. Alot of people wanted to get rid of CS and DB in the one go. I didnt think it would be good to get rid of both our CEO and coach in the one week - would have made us too unstable. RE the leadership group and captains your right, would have been a better way to approach it.
  18. Yep, you see an opponent's true colours when they post exact quotes of what you have said but they are somehow "incorrect". I havent lied in any of my arguments, simply posting your quotes. Also I gave you the ease up on the aggression because I'd rather engage in a challenging debate where I might change my mind set on something, than "[censored] weak post PJ", "Absolute nothing post", "this site could do without you". Ironic because I thought you would share my same feelings considering you said to another poster "I dislike your posts, you rarely provide anything constructive, only the constant dribble". So are these posts incorrect aswell?
  19. I stuck to the facts but somehow that's still misconstruing your argument? The strategy your alluding to involves everyone at the club, not debating that, never have. Just saying that this same strategy has been used over the past 6 years and hasnt gotten us anywhere - by your omission we are still crap. What KPI's are you baising us being crap on. Because if you mention games, percentages, and losses (which is what you have said) then how is it out of bounds for me to mention finals? Also how is it out of bounds for me to mention finals when ive drawn a logical conclusion that what have we failed to do over the past 6 seasons, and what year did you conveniently exclude (2007) when we made finals... oh wait finals So, again, without avoiding my point for the second time: Maybe its worth a go at giving someone a chance at a long-term strategy, rather than judging them on short-term results and axing them which is what we have done for the past 6 years
  20. Yep, thats why I said "being in the baths". He did bat on a bit about the laughing part: "If Cam Smith had have been their captain he would have grabbed them by the beards, dragged them out and said "where's the fun? Where's the laughter?"" For me you're right, its not the laughter part, is the baths. But someone asked what was said because they couldn't listen to it so I did a rough transcript.
  21. You're absolutely right in that we keep on making the same mistakes and thats why we have to keep on changing. That's why it annoys me when I see people calling top down axing of board, staff and coach. We have done this multiple times over the past 6 seasons but nothing has changed, we are still crap. If axing hasn't gotten us anywhere in the past then lets for once lets stick out a new coaches strategy and see how that goes instead.
