Off-season outlook: Pressure will be on Melbourne and Simon Goodwin
pitmaster replied to M_9's topic in Melbourne Demons
Twelve of those behinds were not shots at goal but Hawthorn carrying the ball over to minimise risk and regain possession I seem to remember. Smart tactically and no longer allowed. -
2020 Financials: Reduced Debt Despite Loss
pitmaster replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Yep, the self-regard of some members is simply astounding. I find myself asking (rhetorically) where do they get off? -
Simply having them out there will do it for me.That and a win. Besides, the opening round usually throws up some surprises.
-
Yep. You need to know your history to think of the sons that excelled. Both Bob Johnsons rated, maybe junior was better; Barassi certainly bigger than his dad; John Lord the second was the superior player records suggest. Jack Viney developing nicely but it's time we had another second generation to excell or at least match his high achieving Dad..

Amazing punctuation. Thought you were writing a haiku. Agree with the sentiments.

Yeah migrants never play our game...err, Yze, Barassi, Petracca, Coniglio, Silvagni, Van der Haar, Camporeale, Montagna, La Fontaine, Mueller, Ditterich, Houli, Daw...shall I stop now?

Good, since I recommitted to them last month, as one does. BTW have recently sampled the Fuchsia Gin put out by our gin sponsor. Very good, distinctive, with floral undertones. Suggest you G&T fans give it a crack.

No progress evident on the home base notwithstanding Pert doing some work on it "every day". Sorry to report learnings have appeared twice now.

Given the hand-wringing over Geelong jumping in on Holmes what are the chances Rosman was our target all along and we simply let the Holmes talk run. Three other clubs were linked to Holmes as well. Was Rosman our smokie that we protected with a Holmes screen? I know, a very un-Demonland thought but while they do share similarities Rosman looks to have the more mature build.

I was simply intending to "like" this post like so many others but I have to say, Ron, thank you very much for sharing this. It's very informative especially to another who, like you, thought "tool" in 2004.

But lost Tyrells to have space for Bleasedale. Just swapping like for like.

He means a very small minority, that is to say, a minority by a very big margin relative to the majority. (I think. Or at least I hope.) And I agree, Brown showed real value at the end of the year to the degree that I thought we should have seen a lot more of him much earlier. And that's to say a lot by a big margin. Possibly a big majority.

That's your problem right there: an oxymoron.
-
As good as he is Oliver is not even in the orbit of Lyon, pre-injury Schwarz or Neitz. Yze probably has him beat too, on grounds of ball use.
-
Exactly. The game is always evolving. Evolution often happens when someone comes up with a method to defeat the existing strong clubs. I'd love to see us bring back something like the fast, attacking style of Daniher's and Balme's best sides that blew the opposition away. It needs plenty of run, a committed, united back six and multiple strong marking targets up forward. We potentially have all of those elements in some degree.

He may cure it.

He may play only eight or nine games, or even fewer depending on fitness, but his role off-field will be equal, and possibly greater than his on-field duties. This is fabric of the club stuff, showing respect to those who give their all while opening a new avenue to making a contribution. Absolutely the right call.

And Richmond wanted to offload him several years ago...your point?

The last board challenge was Jimmy's takeover. Not one to recommend given the outcome, but no-one could have predicted the main guy was to be struck with a fatal illness within a year of taking over. As for B Green he does have some business background but that's not much relevance to being football director. Most clubs have someone with recent on-field experience to enlighten the Board on footy matters. Leoncelli was football director for a while. Not sure when he finished or who replaced him.

Full Review of the AFL called for by Swans and Hawks

I cannot think of one thing Samuel did in his "public service life" that was a success. He gave us Docklands FGS, a planning disaster without continuity or soul. -
Another great big Neeld era recruiting stuff up...

Oh Barry, Barry, Barry... -
I'm not sure any of that is true. Also, he seems to suggest in the article he has realised he was overrated by it.

Sounds like that is the MCC stuffing up. They like dual members to pay them for both memberships. I choose to pay the MFC part direct to the MFC.

Yes but...Goodwin was a kid in those flags. A punk.
