You're not the only rocket scientist who knows this, this has never been in dispute from me. Try reading my posts. I keep them relatively short so it won't take long. I want Scully as well. I know he is currently the best available. What I don't know, and nobody does, is will he be the best in 4 years time. It is because of this point that I'm not prepared to say that we won't win a premeirship without him. That is the only point I was making. But feel free to read it how you please and keep banging your head
-
So I was right. Not surprising, I usually am.
-
You make alot of abusive posts. 45? Feeling a bit washed out, life just not living upto expectations, too much time on a Fan website. Sounds about right doesn't it.
-
Old enough to be able to laugh at you
-
Except for Tom Scully of course
-
I can tell you one thing that's pretty well a certainity. Jim Stynes will make RR and Hannabal look tame in comparison to his reaction if this team wins more than 4 games. The only reason I remain confident of only winning 4 games is that Jim is in charge.
-
True, but probably doesn't need it's own thread
-
Why would he tank whilst in contention for a finals birth and his contract up for renewal?
-
Clearly I was answering a thread from your mate Hannabal, who surprise surprise agrees with you, he also believes that without Tom we are doomed. Then you acuse me of overdramatising his ability. I would say it's you and your mate who are overdramatising his ability. Anyway when the club only wins 4 games and selects Tom we can go back to discussing winning some games of football Now won't that be fun.
-
Even a Carlton supporter said so, well sorry, you must be right. Now. I have never doubted his ability or my desire to see him in red and blue. However, to think that without him we are doomed to mediocrity is hyperbole. We have something like 15 top 20 picks on our list. There's a good chance that we'll add at least 2 more this year. It's now down to development. Watts, Grimes, Blease, Strauss, Petterd, Maric, Jurrah, pick 4, and even Sylvia could well end up good enough to take this club to a premeirship. We now have the facilities so there's no longer excuses. Do I want Scully? Of course but let's not overdramatise the ability of one player to win a side a premeirship.

Ah, the voice of reason

It is actually Old 55's comment that see things as black and white. Yes Tom Scully is currently the recruiters favourite and he ticks almost all the boxes. But who's to say that pick 4 won't end up the superior midfielder. My point remains that to suggest we can't win a flag without Scully and pick 2/3 as opposed to just pick 4 is, in my opinion, seeing things too simply. As of next year our facilities will be first rate and our coaching team continues to grow. At this point in time, with the squad we will have at year's end it is more about development that it is about Tom Scully. I say this even though I don't think the club will win more than 4 games and I'm pretty sure they'll pick Tom Scully first up. We are arguing over a point that is most likely moot.
-
I was replying to a post that stated that we were guaranteed not to win a premiership without Tom Scully. Therefore it is a Tom Scully issue. As you know I do think we would be better off with Tom Scully and another very high pick I just don't believe that we're screwed without it. No need to be a smartarse, I'm not 12 years old.

I am in favour of the 4 wins policy but this statement is the single most ridiculous thing I have read on the topic. Who's to say that in 4 years time our pick at no. 4 in this draft becomes the elite midfielder we need, or even our pick at 20. Tom Scully is currently ahead of the pack no doubt but so was Luke Ball when Judd was taken at pick 3. Scully commited himself to football at 13, what's to say his body won't go the distance. He is not the be all and end all. Remember players like Grimes, Blease, Strauss, Bennell, Jetta, Wonaeamirri,Petterd, possibly Mckenzie and Bail have all been recruited and 1 or 2 of them may also become elite. Sylvia may also climb there. I think the club would be silly to win more than 4 games and in watching Sunday's game I thought Bailey coached us toward a loss, however the players wanted it and the Power most certainly didn't. What to do? Circumstance has given us a bountiful array of top 20 picks. Give them time to develop, you might be surprised. From where I sit, add, at worst, picks 4 and 20, this club has the players, it just needs the development and with our new facilities we may have a chance. Tom Scully or bust? I don't think so.

You are definately that much of a [censored] but keep it up. Demonland need not take itself too seriously.

Now I know that there's a proliferation of posts on the ins and outs of us winning and the PP but I still thought this was worth it's own thread. I have been and remain a strong advocate of the club only winning 4 games and will be dissapointed if we win more. However having said this today I asked myself 2 questions. 1. Does this club have enough professionalism to produce a team that's capable of winning a premeirship? 2. Are we good enough to win one without Tom Scully? Let's look at question 1 first. In the past this has been our biggest failure. We simply lacked the professionalism to win a premeirship. Constant infighting, holding on to players past their use by date, The Junction Oval, no money, inability to develop players regularly to the elite level, failure to attract the right people to the club and hold on to them. All this led to a complete lack of stability. The club continually told us it didn't affect the players but that was and remains a lie. I think we all agree that the club has made a massive improvement in this area. For the first time in a very long time we stand united, by next year our training facilities will be of an AFL standard, TJ was traded and old players have been let go or are about to be, new sponsors have been secured, Debt Demolitiopn was and will again be a success. We have a sound management team and an ever expanding coaching and conditioning group. All this breeds new confidence in and around our great club. I firmly beleive that without these improvements we could have all the top picks we like and still nothing would come of it. 2. The answer to this question is absolutely we can. Remember folks we already have around 15 top 20 picks on the list. Watts, Grimes, Morton, Frawley, Garland, Warnock, Martin, Bennel, Jurrah, Maric, Wonaeamirri, Blease, Strauss, Sylvia, Davey, Jones, Moloney, Mclean, Jetta, Petterd, Bate, Dunn, Buckley, Bail, McNamara, Cheney, Jamar, Meesen. All these guys are young, some are very young and many will flourish in our club's new facilities and new found stability. Add to this list at least a top 4 pick and another inside the top 20, give them all 3 or 4 years of further development and Tom Scully could well be that great player who plays for ninth spot at Richmond. As we all know not much is certain in life. One thing that is certain is that this great club is pulling itself together for a real crack at the big time. Read those names, see the improvement, sense the optimism, be part of it. We are all, at some level, expecting too much from our young group. They will take time, some will make it, some won't, but Tom Scully or not this club is doing everything right at the moment. We are playing with emotion for Big Jim. No one can expect us not to, it would be plain wrong not to. Wins mean we are improving. Let's face it we've been improving all year. 4 bad weeks against opposition on a roll is our only black spot. You can't help good form, it happens. Yes we can tank and I believe we most likey will but if we don't the future I see is still Red and Blue. Go Hard you Mighty Demons
-
You've clearly upset him, he's resorted to poetry.
-
Now there's an understatement
-
I'll just ask you one question and then I'll be off to a sensible thread. Would you swap that win for Tom Scully and Jack Trengove?
-
Scully's ours, and yes Trengove does look good. Butcher will be looked at, as will Morabito
-
Now we're talking
-
Stand by to find out, because that's whats about to happen.
-
Yes we will. I actually thought the coaches had a real crack at losing today but Port are just that ordinary they couldn't get over us. On today's form I thought we were 8 goals better than Port, we won by less than 2. I'm confident Scully's ours. I think our FD knows the importance of this draft.

Thank god for the derby
