Demons to pluck Eagles wings in scintillating fashion
jabberwocky replied to Yze_Magic's topic in Melbourne Demons
LOL, highly unlikely. -
I would be more concerned if there weren't team meetings with theses things being raised. We need a line in the sand moment. A point in time where the club stops tolerating loss and wins at all reasonable cost.
-
It would be the the u/16's playing the u/12's.

I would like to see Out Watts Mclean (have a rest and get your body right) Robertson Morton In Bartram Hughes Valenti Strauss I believe Mclean is not fit and either needs to be managed at Casey for a while or rested. Valenti should be told he is now playing for the MFC for a while and to get out there and show his wares. He either can or can't play afl footy. After 4 of 5 games with good game time he will be the easiest on the list to assess. Watts, have a rest son. Don't burn him out, he has had a taste. He will be a star when he is physically and mentally ready. I expect that he will start to do really well at Casey. Robbo used to be dangerous for a couple of reasons. Firstly He would get the oppositions 2nd or third best defender. Secondly he was an extremely difficult match up as he would hurt teams with his leap, his strong hands and pace on the lead and was pretty adept on the deck as well. Unfortunately he has lost a yard and is often out of the contest when the ball hits the deck. I don't think it is through a lack of effort. I just think he has lost a couple of his weapons. He is a much easier player to defend against without them. Bartram, we need a tagger purely because our midfield lacks the ability to hurt the opposition so may as well nullify one of thiers. His disposal has been OK at Casey. He has pace. Unfortunately he fails to dispose of the ball well under pressure. Hughes has a few good attributes, he looks to have good hands and pace and is hard at the contest. Also appears to have second efforts and the ability to lay a tackle. Unfortunately his kicking for goal is suspect but he deserves a run. I reckon he will do a few good things. Like Robbo in his heyday is a hard player to match up on. EDIT: I would also like to see Strauss included sooner rather than later. He has class written all over him. I was aware of his great kicking skills but he also has a nice turn of pace. He also took a courageous mark in the back pocket on Sat which was impressive. He is the sort of kid that will shine at the next level. He is more physically capable (and willing) of doing Morton's role atm IMO.

Sadly I concur with everything you have posted Mono.

Offical Play Dunn as a Forward Thread
jabberwocky replied to FC Melbourne's topic in Melbourne Demons
Yes, Dunn...no. Dunn going to the forward line will solve none of our problems. We need midfielders who get clearances and run hard as a goup to provide options. We also need to collectively put on about a tonne -
A brief one cos I am off to bed. Well I had high hopes of putting aside our disappointing efforts in the last couple of games and I was hoping for a better display. I sat down to watch the game on Foxtel with my two young boys and I could smell pretty early on that we would struggle. In the first quarter we got hands on the ball as much as our opponents and our effeiciency with the footy was unusually good. Black, Brown and Bradshaw had limited influence. I felt we in in an armwrestle with an opponent who had far greater strength and we were looking him in the eye waiting for him to put our hand through the table. And so partly because we expected and feared it, in the second quarter in happened. Clark dominated the ruck contests particularly in the centre, Brisbane were more organised, had greater intensity and controlled the footy barely giving the frightened demons a sniff. Black and Power were constantly belting the ball into our defensive line where to the advantage of Brown and Bradshaw. If they din't mark the footy the ball was dropping to the advantage of thier small forwards. Our hapless backline could do little to stop the bleeding, though Frawley was doing some good things in his battle with Bradshaw and Jack Grimes looks a genuine future star. In contast out midfield looked slow, lost and always behind. Mclean had no impact, Moloney couldnt find the footy and various players such as Sylvia, Petterd and others were tried in the midfield we had no players able to create clearances or any flowing running footy. Our last quarter saved the game blowing out to 80 points and we saved face by outscoring them in the last quarter however the intensity had gone completely out of the game. Davey was our best player but sadly rarely gets his hands on the footy in clearance situations. He is however an eceptional user of the ball and would be a genuine star in a better team. He usually has a hand in any scoring opportunity. Grimes is already a very good player with exceptional, courage, skill and maturity. He has the knack of knowing when to attack the footy or defend. He has strong hands and is a nice user of the footy. Frawley worked hard against Bradshaw and did some good work when given the opportunity to go the other way. Sylvia again did some good things and got a couple of late goals and Stefan Martin took some good contested marks but his disposal is a concern. Dean Bailey needs to go back to the drawing board and establish a plan to improve an uncompetitive and disorganised midfield. This is the clubs greatest on field challenge.

LOL We would get done by 200 if we did that. We would make our midfield pressure even less than it is now. The forward line isn't the main problem. We cant win clearances and we are hardly going inside fifty.

Last time Jones played up there he had his best game and kicked 4 or 5 from memory.

The importance of the strength and conditioning staff
jabberwocky replied to Bruce Almighty's topic in Melbourne Demons
I think our injury list in terms of numbers is a lot better that it has been. I think we have had some improvement in this area. We have maybe one case of OP (Buckley) and most of the other injuries have more to do with bad luck than bad management. As for soft tissue injuries we have actually had very few this year. -
He is our Shaun Hart, will find it hard to break in to the side but will win a Norm Smith in our premiership year.
-
Wheatley looks decidedly slower than I have ever seen him. Hopefully his speed will return.

The importance of the strength and conditioning staff
jabberwocky replied to Bruce Almighty's topic in Melbourne Demons
I beleive the club is already throwing a lot into this area. It is partly about waiting patiently for our kids to grown into thier bodies. You can go the other way and put too much weight and pressure on young bodies which cause injuries and fatigue. Not trying to be a smart arse but your heading is hard to read. -
Strauss will be good. Exactly the type of player we need and don't have. Pacy and very nice by foot. Moves a lot like Cooney but needs to find more of the pill before he is a chance of selection.

How old is Mohr? Rookie chance??

Where is Mckenzie??

Congratulations on one of the funniest posts ever. I rarely LOL at a post, this one made me do so.

Even Matthew Lloyd Is confused by our game plan
jabberwocky replied to Pipefitter's topic in Melbourne Demons
I think some people are getting confusing not having a gameplan with not having the ability to execute one -
Good call PJ tried hard and Bate did well from limited opportunity and was often completely outnumbered.

Athleticism, skill and POISE.
-
Not on and PWeak. It wasnt your opinion that was the problem. It was the post that you wisely deleted which was downright offensive. Don't delete the post and them claim innocence. Regardless of your opinion of LJ as a player there is no excuse for insulting a player and the community he comes from. EDIT And re your private message this confirms that you are exactly the sort of person I thought you were. Perhaps you and the MFC aren't such a good fit.
-
Re PJ he is putting himself in a position where he is being used as a link man, he is a great runner and gets a fair bit of it, problem is at the moment we don't really want it in his hands. It's his decision making not his skills that are the problem. His ability to make quick decisions under pressure are a problem thus he coughs it up. Its hard to know what to do with him. He is athletic and quick, he can kick the ball, can run all game and is strong like ox. It sounds like a great pacakge. Basically I think his shortfall is just a lack of footy nous and the ability to think quick. He doesn't get himself into enough marking contests either, again I think it's just a lack of smarts. How do people reckon our midfield will go tomorrow? As excited as I am about LJ and Watts I for one am very concerned about how often we are going to get it down there.
-
Good post, few words, simple, accurate. Credit to the board also for having the guts to rebuild at a perilous time also. Credit also to Melbourne faithful who have the nous to understand that the footy dept needed to be torn down and rebuilt.
