Yes he did. He is reputed to be a very good kick. He is finding his feet and getting used to the speed of the game. I think he will learn very quickly. Smart player this kid.
-
Has been given numerous chances as a foward both as a floating flanker and as a lead up target. Has only ever shown he is mildly proficient at either role. He was forced into the midfield when it was clear that he was at best an average forward not because he was better midfielder. Lynden Dunn ok at a few things, has not shown to excell at anything unfortunately.

An Interesting Comment from Moloney on Triple M
jabberwocky replied to titan_uranus's topic in Melbourne Demons
I don't think that the forward line are being coached to use this method solely. I would suggest that this would be one of the set ups that would be coached. It is handy when you have opposition players occupying space at half back. It is however not the most reliable method for a young skinny key postion player to pick up goals. Maybe Green is being drilled as the lead up player and Jack is the deep contested player. Either way it is not working and needs to be looked at. -
good post

Intensity Self belief I believe that the two are intertwined We all know he needs to be stronger, but he needs to lead hard, demand the footy and believe that he will get it. It's up to the coaching staff but mostly the kid to get him into a good head space. Yeah I know, I know I am purporting to know what is going on in his head etc, etc...

The kid is a gem. Once he gets used to the pace of the game he will bring players like Davey, Trengove and Scully into the game. His disposal is very good as is his decision making. This kid will learn quickly, he is a smart player. The midfield is bubbling along nicely. Now for the forward line.

I hear you but it doesnt take strength to get in front of your opponent and run hard at the bloke carrying the ball. By doing this he is playing to his strengths, he should have a height and speed advantage over his opponent. By constantly giving his opponent front position.
-
He needs to play in front and run hard at the ball carrier. His one goal was as a result of playing from behind, you get the odd one but it's low percentage and he aint Wayne Carey yet. he needs to use his speed and sticky hands to advantage. It was fairly clear last week that he was playing behind, would have thought that would have been rectified over the course of the week.

If he gets back to full fitness, mature age rookie chance? Was thinking about this last year.
-
No, Jack has put his body on the line on every occasion. Has actually been very good with his hands in the pack. He could have gon a bit lower at the ball deep fwd and gave away a free but it was no squib.

Nev Jetta is playing a great game. His tackling is incredible. He is tough and making great decisions. Can really play. BOG so far.
-
Jetta...............goaal this bloke can tackle with the best of them wont play another 2's game
-
Great quarter by watts. some courage shown by the lad too running back with the flight causing a spillage. playing with belief and conviction. A bit more composure needed and some players to take responsibility up fwd.

Good boy Jack

Please someone direct me to the bits where Melbourne Supporters are willing Jack to fail? Can I paraphrase th thoughts of all Melbourne people by saying. May Jack Watts become a champion of the Melbourne Football Club, May he be our greatest goal-kicker and forward and a multiple premiership player. No-one here on demonland wishes any different.

No Nasher. I have enough to form my own opinion, read the post. This issue is so ridiculously emotive that it makes many intelligent posters on here blinded.
-
The only evidence that is conclusive is that which you see with your own eyes and even that is open to interpretation. Evidence can be in the form of documents and testimony. There have been more than enough accounts to suggest to me that Jack Watts has some things to work on. Isolated things don't mean much on thier own. When accumulated they begin to tell a story. I am not going to itemise them again. This is my considered opinion on what I have read, seen and heard. FFS this does not mean that the kid won't be a champion. He is a kid that needs to get his head around being an AFL footballer. I haven't had to deal with it. I can only assume it is a bug ask with many pitfalls. Anyhow this week Jack Watts is being rewarded with a senior game because he has taken steps forward and responded to a challenge from the coach. Great to see.
-
It's got everything to do with it. From those who claim that Jack Watts is the second coming who are ridiculously sensitive to any suggestion that he has a couple of faults that he needs to work on. to those who claim that he is an out of control upstart busy drinking and cavorting with older ladies and farm animals. There is a stance in the middle that is supported by the evidence. There is nothing wrong with the OP asking a question.
-
And how is your dig any different.
-
There is nothing wrong with the question in the thread. A bit of objectivity around this place wouldn't go astray.
-
Correct, the goal umpire is in the best position to see if the ball goes through the sticks. But usually the field umpire is in a better posyion to see how the ball ended up on it's way there.

absolutely spot on needs to adjust to wet weather footy and because he has a good brain he will

Happened right in front of me and was duly noted. He will be a great player this kid and it won't take him long. I tip that by the end of the year his early career will be favourably compared with some of the early careers of the game's stars.

He is not ready and the reasons are partly physical.................
