I think this raises a good point and displays a lack of leadership. Brad Green and James Mcdonald lead by example and courage in general play, but we have no real hard men who look like they want to kill you and eat you. Moloney has tried to be that man but was low on confidence. The other thing I would like to see is young blokes lifting thier heads when they make a mistake. When James Strauss &^&*ed up in the goal square he dropped him head in shame and no-one went over to him, he was treated like a leper. Young blokes are gonna &*)* up, they have to learn to keep thier heads up and not lose confidence. We are dropping our bundle early and the young blokes don't have the self belief to recover. The stop running and demanding the footy, they start to take on a lsoing mentality. The senior blokes on the ground need to be geeing them up to keep it together.

Excatly right, we have players who don't demand the responsibility of carrying the footy.
-
Not one to make outrageous statements but Tom Scully is going to be the best on-baller at the MFC in my lifetime (38 years thus far)
-
Spot on. Lack of run and responsibility.

Put $20 on us at $4.50 at betezy.

I don't know if big Jake will make it or not however I like the fact that the club has selected him. He apparently does everything right at training and gives 100% out on the ground. I reckon we have a couple of more talented but potentially less committed blokes who need to take heed of what is going on with Mckenzie and Spencer.

For a 208cm bloke who hasn't played footy for a long time he looks very good.

This is the key. Dunn will tag Mitchell. Warnock will go to Roughead. If these three are held and if we can kick some goals we are in with a big chance. Our remaining 19 are probably superior to thier remaining 19.

I think the reason why our rookie list looks a little light on in comparison to other clubs is: I believe we made a commitment before delisting Danny Hughes to rookie him after coming back from injury. (I stand to be corrected on this?? I recall other demonlanders of repute stating this when we re-rookied him in 08 edit: actually it may have been a quote from CS stating this.) We downgraded Meeson and Newton to the rookie lists to make the most of our 09 ND draft picks. This allowed us to draft Gawn and Fitzpatrick who were obviously ahead of any potential rookies. As for Healy he has hardly been able to fire a shot but will get his chance this year. Hughes will need to have a huge start to the year to give himself any chance. I would say that the odds are weighed heavily against both at this stage, but if they are good enough.......

I am [censored] off that the young blokes we have recruited in the last three years aren't playing like seasoned veterans.

Had a quick chat to Sam Blease, says he will play this week in a Casey Practice match. Not sure if this has been reported or not.

That wasn't an answer to the question dude. You are now the football dept, apparerently run by people who are lesser than half wits, so I am assuming that you have declared yourself more capable than they. What forwards would you have recruited with the available picks to make us a contender in 2010? Remember this was your idea to assume the mantle of the football dept.
-
He was definitely tried deep forward by Bails in 08. I think early on. I watched him carefully for a whole game. Sorry I can't recall who it was against.
-
Dunn can kick ok. Who can honestly say they have seen Dunn take an overhead mark under any sort of pressure? I have see Dunn try to fly at the ball before when he was tried forward in 2008. I watched him closely. His judgement when the ball is above his head is very poor. Please do not take this as Dunn bashing, however he is an enigma. Unless Dunn has managed to fix this issue he is entirely incapaple of playing as a key forward. A Bock, Lake, Fletcher would absolutely destroy him in marking contests and rebound hard. Petterd, Green, Sylvia even Bruce or Jared Rivers would be more suitable. Our lack of key forward options is not a problem easily solved. I wouldn't mind seeing a full forward line that consisted of wonna/davey Rivers green/petterd This way you have Green or Petterd as the lead up option, they can also do well on the deck. Rivers as the long/contested option who will read the ball in flight and get hands on it most times and expert crumbers cleaning up in Davey or Wonna. This is an attacking option and Davey could only be considered in this role if the midfield really starts to pick up. Rivers is important in the back line but the return of Garland might free him up?? We also have Mcnamara who can take the third tall.

Thanks Rudeboy, he has shown us before that he only needs one hand. Very grateful for any info that you pass on.

Whispering Jack & Demonland are Sponsors of Max Gawn

Dare I say going, going...... -
Easy throw away line. Since you are willing to put yourself in the shoes of the footy dept, please outline exactly how you would have fixed our forward line for 2010 including the names of players you would have recruited and at whose expense. Regards Dan

I would expect that there is very little chance that Watts will play round 1 and if he did I would expect him to have a minimal impact. I find that which is in bold a bizarre claim.

Thanks C and B. Will pop on to ology and have a look.

Please provide adequate alternatives?

I will say that things can change very quickly, especially where talent is present. I will also say never underestimate the human spirit and the inspiration of a certain tall Irishman.

I'm there..lets do it

Miller replaced who now? I have no idea what you are on about with that. Seeing as we have a plethora of young midfielders I would say that the young fellow who earns the right to player sweeper will get the job. Bennell has been tried. Strauss looks ok. If you want more BS maybe you should lobby for Terry Wallace to replace Bailey.
-
Expect the unexpected when you have a young talented list. A couple of thrashings. A couple of wins against good opposition.

Didn't he do it twice HT?
