I agree and equally am horrified but the key is "in-form". For two years he's been playing like a bloke who's afraid of being hurt. Pleasingly in last week's Casey game he went as hard at the ball and the man as I've seen in quite some time. I just hope he builds on that tonight & presses his claims. Because as you say, at somewhere near his best he makes us much, much better. Even his best I50 delivery however is gonna struggle with our forward strategy. A 25 year old Tony Lockett would struggle to get a kick the way we are going about it. Those that see the inclusion of BBB as some sort of panacea are dead set kidding themselves. Nothing to do with Weid or BBB. It's a system issue rather than a personnel problem.

Frankston are slated to play the Swans. Perhaps the fixture could be flipped so that we play the Dolphins. Both Giants & Swans have 8 games played. We've just completed 6.

Reckon there was a video of muso types having a kick at half time at a VFL / AFL game many moons ago. None of 'em wore footy boots & it was a wet, muddy surface so the video consisted mainly of them slipping over in slow motion. I think @Smokey your uncle Big Wilbur was out there sporting Melbourne colours. Can't recall many others but Molly Meldrum was in Saints gear & Jon English in a Fitzroy outfit. Shirley Strahan in Hawthorn colours

If Ben Brown doesnt play the rest of the year
Go the Biff replied to picket fence's topic in Melbourne Demons
So punters, what if Brown (& Brown) stink up the house against the Bummers at Casey ? And Weid kicks six ? -
Turn it up. The North game gave us the rare sight of a crowd full of Tasmanians in T-shirts. The Carlton game had a shower at half time. The only one that was wet was the Sydney game - Brown's best performance for the year. This is not a defence of Weed but I don't think your conditions based analysis stacks up

If Ben Brown doesnt play the rest of the year
Go the Biff replied to picket fence's topic in Melbourne Demons
I reckon you've nailed it Jaded. In the Carlton game he covered a lot of ground but really struggled to get back into the forward line to be a threat. Glacial movement. And as others have mentioned, in the small sample size we have, Brown didn't appear to have the sharpness on the lead that he's known for. Hopefully this six week physical tune up will get him back to the sort of shape he was in when he was bagging 60 goals a year. Mind you, with our forward setup you'd struggle whether it was Ben Brown, Sam Weideman or Fred Fanning ! -
Sadly yes. His strike rate is schiezenhuisen. If there's a skerrick of truth in it though, that was a hell of an audition from Maynard. Best on for mine.

Nathan Buckley Steps Down as Collingwood Coach
Go the Biff replied to roy11's topic in Melbourne Demons
In a heartbeat. The bloke can coach. If I was Carlton I'd be showing Teague the door & getting Buckley in navy blue. I've thought for a while that he could do something with the Blues list that Teague obviously can't -
On the back of Meg Downie hanging up the boots, Tegan Cunningham has also retired. Disappointed in this as she was becoming a very handy second ruck at the back end of the season as well as taking the #1 defender when she went forward Veteran Demon-Bookends Call Time

WELCOME BACK TO DEMONLAND: TAYLA HARRIS

My favourite player when I was a young tacker. He managed to straighten up enough to kick over 60 goals one year. I'd take that ! Weid might need some specific training & development drills. Patches O'Houlihan style. If you can catch a wrench you can mark a ball !

That's the easiest way to diffuse a dust-up these days. "You blokes are all in the protected zone. Who wants the 50 metres ?"

The Friday night match rarely gets much of a mention. No matter who played in it. I guess they figure it's had a whole day of coverage already

The Carlton game to me is pivotal in the selection of Weid over Brown. It may be as simple as Weid being in the better physical nick of the two. Given the current ticketing arrangements, I watched this game from a higher vantage point than I usually would. To my eye, while Brown covered a lot of ground, he did so very slowly. He has a strange running gait at the best of times, like a giraffe with sandbags on its feet but watching him try to work back inside 50 I kept wondering whether he was fit. Seemed to be labouring. I'd be interested in getting the views of anyone who attended BBB's "shocker" for Casey. How was he moving ? Was he getting to dangerous positions ? Was he hitting back hard into the 50 ? It was a bit hard to tell from a single camera YouTube broadcast.

I've got no problem with a forward taking a shot from the edge of the square as opposed to handing off to a team mate on a tighter angle. I don't see that as selfish. The choice to dribble kick is my beef. A simple drop punt and that's a goal. There's a bit of over analysis of this play. I think it's as simple as Fritsch not seeing Scholl charging in. That said, Fritsch was ordinary. His failure to lead and present as a target was lamentable. As was Weideman's, as was McDonald's, as was Jackson's. I think this is a structural, system issue as much as anything. It was glaringly obvious against Carlton that our forward structure is inefficient and it's been masked by the fact that we've been winning.

Good interview with ANB. Speaks well. Given his public persona (headline seeking goose) I was pleasantly surprised by how well Kane Cornes conducts an interview. Alex Neal-Bullen on The Captain's Run (21.05.21)

Disappointed for Chandler as he was on a hiding to nothing playing seniors last week. He'd had very little match time at any level in the month preceding. I'd have like to see Melksham actually play at Casey. IIRC last time he played in the twos he came back with a vengeance. He might need another shake-up. A fit, firing & committed Melksham is an asset forward of centre.

Where's that "Why can't we have both" gif. Gus is doing his job well but tidy up his disposal and he'd be doing it very bloody well. On another forum I saw a nickname for him which gave me a laugh Angus Sprayshaw
-
The way he explained it in that interview (link below) suggests that this is not unchartered waters. Given the procedure he had in the pre-season it was likely that there could be issues. He's been through it before with his other foot and this time he & the medicos were more vigilant - catching the reactions as hot spots before they got to the stress fracture stage. I suspect some of his prior foot issues were exacerbated by JV trying to push through it. Reckon it would be hard work trying to get him to come off the track. Jack Viney presser

I prefer Sparrow's ball handling and use to Harmes who's been fumbling, messing up potential scoring chains and out of form for about 18 months. However I felt we missed Viney's "bull at a gate" approach to clearances last week. No way Cunington waltzes out of the middle a dozen times if Viney is in there. I can see how Harmes could better replicate that than Sparrow at this stage. I think we've got one in Tom. Different player but he gives me young Scotty Thompson vibes. I believe Naimh McEvoy and Shae Sloane have announced their retirement. Other moves across the league in the article below. Apparently we are into Geelong's Olivia Purcell. Not having seen much of the Cats I know little (nothing) about her. The article also states that we made a big play for Collingwood's Chloe Molloy. That would have been huge had we been able to lever her out but it appears she is going to sign on with the 'Pies again. AFLW Trade News

That was bloody hysterical when he convinced a chunk of BigFooty that he was a chance to be drafted. He was mad as a meat axe the old Yze_Magic but jeez he could be fun. I remember one of his signatures was something like "Dean Bailey - sweeping the place out with his magical broom"
