Farewell Brodie Grundy
Just as a discussion point, how can we say absolutely that Grundy can’t play forward, when he has played mainly as a ruckman and hasn’t been tried in that role? It may not work, but it might. He would be a hard matchup for the opposition. My Pies’ mates who have seen him play for 10 years, say he is more a ruck rover than a ruckman. Remember someone else described that way? We have seen him pick up the ground ball, run and bounce, take marks up forward and kick about 10 goals so far this year. JVR is smaller than Grundy, less experienced and not dominating yet. BBB has lost some of the little mobility he had and goes out of the game and has kicked only a few goals in the last few games. Tom Mac is injured and Schache is obviously not being considered. BBB and JVR kicked one goal between them against the Lions. I can’t believe that Grundy can’t offer similar up forward atm, or at least the same as BBB or JVR. He is strong, fit and experienced. He is a fair kick for goal. He is also the perfect chop out for Max and a better forward ruck than our two forwards. Him playing there saves JVR being belted and exhausted and affecting his main role as a forward. All I am saying is this can work for a while. It is not an impossibility like some pundits in the media are saying.

Better for us if Brisbane win.

Farewell Brodie Grundy
How funny would it be if this became a really successful move?

Agree. It was purely Barassi trying to prove a point, which backfired badly.

Richo 199cms played wing for a lot of games late in his career. Where was the outcry for Tigers greatest forward playing wing. Barassi once moved Flower to full back.

Peter Wright says hello to all the doubters that say ruckmen can’t play forward. The Pies Cox also gives a big hi. Charlie Dixon also sends greetings. Luke Jackson joins in. Ben McEvoy often played forward scoring goals. Just as a few examples. But then Damien Barrett says it can’t happen and Sunday panel agree, so it can’t then.

They play Tigers, Saints and Dockers in the last game in Melbourne. If they won one of Tigers and Saints, would you rest players when we played them, if we were safe in 4th spot, in the 2nd last round. Then if they beat Dockers , we would have pick 3. Eagles would swap pick 1 for 3 and more, as it would give them the boy they want anyway, if it’s not Reid. Is that Tanking? Only joking😉. Or am I. I could see the media jumping all over this if it becomes a possibility. PS: Just watched Hawks for 10 minutes, turning it over every possession. If they weren’t playing Roos they would be losing. They are very ordinary. Forget the above.

Get serious, we are talking about “better” than footy.

No one gets everything right all the time and JT has a great strike rate. When drafted he was seen as an exciting talent. It just hasn’t happened for him. Agree with other posters, that he is a lovely guy to meet, but of course we don’t want lovely guys, we want great footballers. PS: did we ever try him down back?

PREGAME: Rd 19 vs Adelaide
I don’t see Grundy at another club next year. At this stage if Max went down, who replaces him, competently? I am convinced the Max who played on Friday was a far fresher Max than the same time last year. If nothing else Grundy is the major reason for that. He rucked alone when Max was injured, earlier in the season. Schache consistently gets goals at VFL level, but disappoints at AFL level and if Goody saw the pulling out of marking contests in the VFL, in several games I have seen, his cards would be marked, “only pick as last resort “.

Agree with this. While a fan of BBB, his knee injury has cruelled his agility, which was never his main attribute and imo he is very near the end. Grundy is a bigger bodied, more mobile player who can do what BBB does, maybe not as accurately kicking for goal, but can save Max from burnout, JVR from ruck injury and allow him to concentrate on his key forward role and at worst, provide the contest and bring the ball to ground. Fritta will return and bring his opportunistic goal scoring, but Tom Mac may not return. Therefore it’s probably Grundy or BBB for the big key forward role and probably/possibly at this stage, Grundy can offer more. I can understand what the FD is thinking here.

Speaking of anti Dees bias, a perennial favourite BT sounded like our Number 1 member on Friday. He was cheering us home, praising every bit of play late in the game and willing us to win. At the same time, Richo kept saying one more goal to Lions will win this for them. I am not knocking Richo as I like his comments btw. Wonder what turned BT. Maybe just wanting a great finish for the TV audience.
