  1. The fact this board hasnt exploded in outrage at the financial implications of this fixture says to me that its a great result. Add to that our TV exposure in good time slots and this is surely our best fixture in many years. Hard, well yes, but thats what happens when your team starts winning games. I like it. A lot.
  2. 54
  3. Yeah, i did not mean they deserve more than us, i meant only that they deserve more than most others get based on their list and potential. Only a total fool would think Essendon deserve more prime time matches than MFC. Hope that clears things up re. my post.
  4. If Lever comes back fit and firing by round 6 or so, and May can slot into the team without the teething problems Lever had, I am absolutely convinced we will have all the ingredients we need to go all the way. (Injuries permitting) So convinced in fact, i have already asked my roster monitor for next years Grand Final day off. She still thinks her sons team is better than ours. Silly woman.
  5. I agree with this. Hate them as much as you like (and they probably deserve) but their list is actually shaping up nicely. We are ahead of them in the midfield, even after Shiel joins them, but in the next 3 or 4 years, they have as much of a shot at the cup as anyone. Lots of high draft picks, and they seem to develop them well. If Fugly stays fit and learns to kick straight, they could be anything. Hard to argue that they are building nicely. Much larger following than us, so the upside for AFL management is huge. Thats why they will get tons of night games. I actually think they deserve it, but at the same time we also deserve at least the same, if not more prime time exposure. I think we all know who will be gifted more by the AFL.
  6. Sorry DL, i was Factoring in the Anzac eve game which obs isnt a Friday night, but Primetime just the same. Sydney game Rd 2 is the other i was thinking of. I should have just said "Night game".
  7. The AFL let it be known that MFC would be getting a bigger share of Friday night games next year, but the only 2 we are so far aware of, are both away games. I can see it now, 3 more Friday night games against interstate teams. Lock it in Eddie. Its going to take some very sweet fixturing for us to have a decent year revenue-wise with our 2 biggest games making us nothing. At the very least we have earned a prime-time home game against Essendrug. Its time for others to fill the Sunday arvo slots.
  8. I have already posted "not available" on my work roster for this game. First time i will have seen my team play where i live. I will take both of my Canon DSLR's and possibly a video camera as well to get as many shots as possible, particularly of any newbies who play. Best news so far this off-season.
  9. Nah, not the type we need wearing the jumper. At the first sign of a confrontation, she runs the other way. I love my baby but she is too soft for MFC. Besides, she loves working with plants, its her dream job. ( My advice to her was "Aim low child, you will never be disappointed" ) Takes after her old man.
  10. My daughter was a Bunnings Greeter. Recently got promoted to the plant department. I KNEW she was made of the right stuff.
  11. Most run-of-the-mill footy followers have no real idea of how good this kid could be. I dont mean that dismissively to the football public, as i dont really follow others teams up and coming players either. The general football public see him as nothing more than a skinny kid who has taken a couple of contested marks, and has a famous relative. For anyone who has watched his progress closely, the evidence was getting stronger every time he took the field in the latter part of the season. He is good below his knees, and loves a tackle. If the coaches can keep improving his defensive pressure, and he gets confidence in his body (after adding several more K.G's), i can see him splitting packs open and being the contested marking beast we all hoped Hogan would be. This kid will be special IMO.
  12. Once apon a time, not so long ago, we would have been all over him. Now, ..... not so much. Thank the sweet (insert fave deity) above we dont need NQR"s like him now.
  13. Harmes 100%. I would also replace Trac with Tommy. At this stage, Tom has done far more for us than Petracca. Lil Mithen is the obvious replacement for Daisy I.M.O. The coach is also worthy of a cartoon dont you think? (I would be happy to have my boys Melky and ANB while we are at it )
  14. I spoke to someone closely connected to an AFL club last week. This person told me that their son had just called and was super excited after the Club Best and Fairest night. This player told them that they finished 10th, and that got them a $55k bonus. Added to that, there was also a $20k bonus for playing 20 games. so thats $75k on top of their wage for being top 10, and playing 20 games. My contact said they did not know what their sons base wage was as they had never asked. (Fair enough). I was also told a couple of stories about a player who we (MFC) were once close to drafting (And should have) Just gossip, nothing pertaining to MFC so dont get too excited. I would be very interested to know if anyone had a clue as to what sort of bonus payments our guys get based on the same benchmarks. Its gonna be such a loooooong off season.
  15. Just read his interview on the club website and im more pumped than ever to get him in. He has already spoken to Lever and it sounds like he cant wait to get stuck in again. On a side note, this is the quote that most stood out......... “I’ve never even played in a Friday night game, let alone a final, so I’m just looking forward to being part of it.” How The actual [censored] is that possible for a player who has been on the field 120 or so times. I, and others, will miss Hogan, but i have a feeling this bloke will bring something that helps us all cope with the loss.
  16. He has never struck me as an in-and-under type who can go through the midfield. Looks a near ideal winger to me, based on admittedly limited watching. I would prefer him as an outside runner (With a good kick) as it seems to be one of our greatest needs atm. Do you think he is up to sharing the load with our hard-nut mids? (nvm just saw your earlier post) Wing/HB it is. Sweet
  17. If it is true that he sounded us out about a trade, May is exactly the type of bloke we need. Should be totally invested, unlike the other bloke who chose to leave. He also fills a need and comes ready-made and in his prime. Factor in KK who could be an insta-winger if his health issues are sorted, and we have added depth as well. These 2 want success with us whereas Hogan didn't care enough to stay. Thats a win as far as im concerned.
  18. Which is why Jesse will be wearing a Whankors jumper by 8.30 pm tomorrow night. They know his value and will pay the price to get him Lock it in.
  19. In fairness, they (AFC) havent used the second pick for Lever yet, but the thrust of your argument is spot on IMO. (see my post in the previous page)
  20. Interesting point you make here. At the time of each trade from EFC (Mekly and Hibbo) i thought Dodo was asking for overs, and that we buckled WAY too easily. I thought our list management team bent over and took it while the Dons laughed all the way to the bank.... The trades were : Melksham: traded to Melbourne for pick 25 Hibberd : traded to Melbourne with pick 59 for picks 29 and 68 As i said, at the time i thought we paid too much, too easily. History has shown since then that either i know less than i than i thought, or our team knew more than i gave credit for. Obviously it was both. How many of our supporters would not do those trades all over again? It also shows that Dodo, for all his bad reputation, probably has a good handle on the value of his players. I wont be happy if Hogan goes for nothing more than pick 5, and will still be disappointed if its pick 5 and a solitary second rounder. This time though, at least i am sure that our list management team know a LOT more than me. Time to show our guys some trust. Reckon they have earned it.
  21. On the live trade period telecast, i expect to see the usual tacky stuff. * Countdown timer. * Footage of club officials running down corridors with papers in hand. * Same officials on their phones with finger in opposite ear, with furrowed brows. * Increasingly excited commentary towards period end. * Interviews with various club officials talking about how they got their "target" (And how much work went on behind the scenes) * Gill doing something..... ANYTHING to be on TV and help out Fox because $$ What i dont expect to hear...... *Anyone admit most of the "last minute" trades were actually decided days earlier, but held back per AFL "suggestions" (because Fox $$) What have i missed?
  22. So to make an Arrowroot palatable, you have to mix it with other stuff.... kinda reinforces my point. By itself its the very definition of vanilla. Its the type that can only kick one sided and it has no tricks. Stick to Football Layzie, you re clearly out of your depth when it comes to biscuits.
  23. Cant believe how little some posters know about biscuits..... To rate Milk Arrowroots as worthy of being on that list says to me you couldn't pick a biscuit from a cupcake. Seriously, im losing my faith in Melbourne supporters.
  24. Yeah good post DS. Having said that, i am sad to see Dom go as i liked him. This is as close to a win-win as trades get. Both teams should be happy with what they ended up with, and more importantly, what it cost them. If we are trying to make a good (trading) reputation for ourselves, this is the way to go about it. I suppose North also deserve a pat on the back. Freo however.......................... Muppets.
  25. Thank god there are only 159 days until the footy starts again and we have something else to discuss....
